If it's worn with respect then who cares where the wearer is from! It was a great honour to my Scottish husband and I that English family wanted to wear kilts to our wedding. |

Anyone can wear a kilt in this day and age. There’s a few universal tartans that anyone can wear: Highland Granite, Isle of Skye and Black Watch.
But in 2021 no ones going to care if you’re wearing MacLeod and your great great granny wasn’t |

"Anyone near arrochar"
Very kilt related
Kilts are more than national dress these days. They are a unisex fashion item that can be worn on any occasion and there are some companies in Edinburgh actively trying to promote the kilt outside of its normal wear.
Alexander McQueen Vivian Westwood used kilts in their fashion runways.
It is very much a unisex item of clothing that should be embraced more and the tartan now is available in a huge range way outside the traditional.
Tradional Kilt making is also a dying art and they are looking to make it a traditional skilled heritage status thingy.
I know all this because I have close friend doing an apprenticeship in kilt making and have a fashion kilt on order to wear whenever.... I can't wait |

"Should anyone be allowed to wear a traditional Scottish kilt or does seeing a non Scottish person wearing one wind you up?"
As long as its worn properly no. But far too many have it hanging down past the knee. I'm not just talking about saser knacks either |

Considering the philabeg, which is now considered "traditional" which it is most definetly not, was created by an 18th century English tailor, Thomas Rawlinson in the 1720's, then yes, anyone can wear one.
The traditional kilt, none of which is worn today was of course used by us scots in the highlands for centuries. However the claim that we invented wearing wool around our midsection is also a strech considering most of the world wore it at somepoint or another |

Aside from the "civic and joyous" brigade, can't see why anyone would take issue with someone joining in wearing our national dress. Its not regimental colours that have to be earned, its just clothing |

Lived in the US for 12 years, they loved when I wore my kilt. I did not mind them wearing the kilt as long as they wore it properly. I did see some travesties! |

I do enjoy wearing my kilts - I’ve got three, generic kilts not clan kilts. I think if it’s worn properly then anyone can enjoy wearing the kilt.
I think it should be worn more often - not just for weddings. What say you all - more often or just weddings? |

"If any English people ever slag kilts
Two words;
Morris dancing "
Wish I read this last week when the Englishman at work started talking about the sissy Scots wearing skirts.
It beats my comeback of the old WW1 Ladies from hell saying. |

"Discrimination regarding the wearing of the kilt in a free society that is all inclusive..... In these brexit times of hate everyone.... Away haha "
Hmmmm. Did you read the replies? Not one was discriminating and all were inclusive. Nothing to do with Brexit or hate. |

"Funny how you immediately mention English people…of course no other country would ever take the piss out of a kilt. "
The only reason I mentioned English was he WAS English, personally I have never really had any other nationality take the piss out of it around me although of course it happens. Nothing against the English but wish they would stop giving us the Tories. |

Scotland is one of the most accepting countries in the world and would allow anyone to wear a kilt and take it as a mark of respect. However these new plain coloured kilts and non tartan ones….can’t say I am a fan haha |

I've worn kilts a few times, even got married in one. I may not be from Scotland but my ancestors were and I look damn good in one (or so I'm told), so that's good enough for me. |

I like mine, McNaughton Clan "muted" version tartan... Not as bright red ..lol...and yes I wear it as intended as many ladies have witnessed, two took their pleasure at the 2019 New Year's Eve...lifted it up to check...then decided to check a wee bit closer..they shared the spoils of their handwork...?? |
