Great Series....Shite Ending
Jump to: Newest in thread
Gawd! I’ve lost count of the many fantastic TV series I’ve avidly watched only to see them consequently ending in a wholly disappointing manner.
Quantum Leap, Dexter, The Colby’s (ok, so the last one wasn’t exactly great, but who can forget THAT ending?!) as just three examples.
Name me some more series that you’ve loved.....until they’ve limped out on a lowly whimper.
Off you go my good folks |

True Blood was another; To be fair it pretty much ran out of steam in it’s penultimate season but the final one - oh deary, deary me....
Killed of Alcide in the second episode and then killed off Bill at the end. Bag o’shite! |

Great 1st series, shite continuation rather than ending; but I loved the first series of 13 reasons why, only for it to turn into a convoluted mess of a show. They’re making a 4th series, as well. |

The X Files.
Wonderful in it’s heyday but ended on a sad low (both the original final season ending and the subsequent newer two series which for the most part were bland at best)
The films were unfortunately lacklustre also |

a lot of series' have naff endings because the TV companies decide that they are pulling the plug at the end of the next season so the writers have to wrap things up when they had been planning for something more extensive; but the worst endings of all are those where there is no ending because the TV company decided not to renew the programme after a season had ended leaving everything in the air. |

Cancellation certainly explains Quantum Leap’s awful ending; After seven long (and great) years, fans were rewarded with.....some text on the screen informing us that Sam never got back home
Merlin was another; It apparently would have continued but the main actor decided to call it a day resulting in a horribly rushed ending that disappointed pretty much everyone |

"Think game of thrones is the worst one for me purely because of the years invested in it. I loved it but felt really let down in the end. " not as let down as a fan of the books feels. We had to watch the series

"sons of anarchy.. bad ending,
6 feet under bad ending,
silicon valley, nicked the ending from 6 feet under,
Mr Robot of course..
When will we get a decent well thought out ending?"
The big problem with a lot of these programmes is that they are created for TV which means one series is made, if that gets the viewing figures then it will get renewed for a second series but they are only written after that happens. If you want a programme that has a definitive storyline and ending then the whole thing would need to be written first, like an adaptation of a novel. |

"I am the only one relieved to have never bothered watching Games of Thrones season 8?
I haven't watched any of the series, probably never will"
If you do, stop at season 7 and leave it there. You'll be happy that way |

Me!"
Yes. Though I've watched it all several times since and understand it better now. At the time I felt cheated. Now I see it as a kindness. Rather that than to have to see him go |

Only one TV Show has had a worthy ending and that is Breaking Bad.
Everything else seems to be high mediocre at best, the general trend is just poor. Script writers very rarely know how to do good endings. Endings dont mean anything really, nobody is returning for what comes next so they don't need to worry about having a good final episode/season.
As has also been said, a large number of tv shows end up being dragged out, with no clear ending in sight then rushed to finish it.
Or the writers wrote themselves in to a corner.
Or a show gets cancelled early, or not picked up for future seasons so a final season has to be rushed out, or not even given an ending. |

Angel was a 'wait what' moment for me.
Buffy was good. It was going to be ended at the end of season five when *spoilerssssss* Buffy died for the second time. But I am glad that we got seasons six and seven. |

One thing I will say is how did the ending compare to the entire series as a whole.
In that regard, Game of Thrones truely is the ultimate fail ending. Based on how high it had risen with previous seasons, only to fall at the end. Nothing will come close to that.
Other shows had bad endings, maybe even worse than GOT, but not compared to how good the series was as a whole. |

All went tits up when they continued after the book stopped and keeping characters alive that died |

By the end of angel they knew they weren't getting a new season so they just had fun, you can tell. But the ending was awfully deflating.
As for s6+7 of buffy they were pretty good, minus the infamous bathroom scene with spike and buffy, that made for some very uncomfortable watching. |

"Does anyone remember a puppet show (Jim Henson produced?) from the nineties called simply, Dinosaurs?
The ending of that.......OMG!!!
Vaguely, I wasnt very old."
*Spoiler Alert*: They all freeze to death (it’s thankfully not explicitly shown onscreen but we last see them all huddled and shivering together in a log cabin as the Ice Age descends). |

Ending was a bit meh. I’ve watched the series twice now (to make sure it wasn’t me missing the point) but it just fizzes out. I like a tidy ending. I like to know what everyone is going off to do, otherwise what is the point in getting invested in characters? If I wanted to watch a mystery, i’d watch a mystery.
Quick, someone get me off this soapbox |

We screwed that up last night.. We hit the button and watched the last one first. Didn't realise till the end. The last episode as a stand alone kinda works. But couldn't help but draw comparisons with lucifer.. |

DS9’s ending felt horribly rushed I thought sadly.
Is Sisko dead or alive? I’m still unsure |

"Firefly, ended before it got going. Goddammit Josh Whedon"
Not Josh! The network fucked it.
They had zero faith in the show so it had an ever changing time slots, and they aired the episodes in incorrect order so the plot and little connections between each episode made no sense really. It had low ratings (when aired) so they scrapped it. |

"IZombie springs to mind. Also santa Clarita diet."
I really enjoyed both, Izombie started to dwindle towards the end, the over arching plot seemed to become less engaging.
Santa clarita unfortunately wasn't renewed for a season 4, which was incredibly disappointing as there were sooo many things that were left open with the story. |

I’m sad to report that the poor little dude perished It was a truly horrible end with the protagonists cuddling up whilst stating how cold they felt and that they subsequently felt ‘sleepy’..... |

Although not the end of the entire series, has there ever been a more intellectually insulting cliff hanger to a series than in Dallas, when Pam Ewing is shocked to find Bobby in the shower (who was killed off two seasons or so prior!) thus rendering the subsequent seasons as her mere dream?
Great Scott! That was one lazy arsed plot contrivance |

The Walking Dead, I know it hasn't finished yet but it went from being a brilliant, emotional, well written zombie epic to something that felt like one of those shit E4 teen dramas with A-Team style shoot outs where no key characters ever get hit. I haven't even watched the last three seasons, I gave up when they brought in 'the kingdom' and those weird junkyard people. |
