Vintage VW beetle, Karmann Ghia, and Mini Cooper.
My first car was a beautiful turquoise 1303 veedub, and I bought a cooper (complete with racing stripes and Italian Job style lamps) 10 years ago.
I still have to tick the Karmann Ghia box though. |

"It was horrible to drive"
Fair enough! I`ve got several 80`s hatches in my collection, very few of my friends can deal with driving them, especially the non PAS steering & clutches.. Everyones spoiled these days! |

I love seeing their faces when they first try to turn the steering or press the clutches down, they always think something broken!
Personally, I love the basic, direct, raw feeling from 70`s & 80`s stuff! |

I`ve had an early E30 323i & a 79 928, but the retro ones I`ve got now are much rawer, noisier & lighter! |

Nothing quiet about either of them, especially not the 928 with crosspipe and rear box delete |

Golf Gti
I did eventually have one in my early 30's, a brand new one, with 17 miles on the clock
I'd still like a Mk1 Gti, one that hasn't been tampered with or modified though |

A big yellow, ex AA land rover. It meant everything to us because it never seemed to let us down, would adequately carry the family , kids, dogs and the multitude of stuff and took us everywhere.
We called it the big yellow beast. |

Citroen XM in the early 90s, looked insanely futuristic like a spaceship on wheels. It had air suspension that could be raised and lowered, self levelling and adjusting for a smooth ride or firmed up for performance and responded to steering going through corners... And one of the first cars to have a CD entertainment system in. My dad had one as a company car before a Volvo 850 sports saloon and wow did that move |

Hiya, I’ve had loads of interesting cars but I guess my favourite was my first Ferrari which was a 308 GTS, I thought I was Magnum! Haha!
Got a few interesting ones now too.
I get the feeling this might be a male-centric room but I’m looking for women to chat with, feel free to message me.

I loved the Triumph TR7 as a kid. I remember going to the motor show at the NEC and being mesmerised by it.
I made the mistake of buying one when I was 21 out of an inheritance that I got. Now that was a bad buy, a complete bag of spanners!

Supercars don't particularly interest me. I appreciate them, but I find them a little vulgar
Souped up Subarus and the like also leave me a little cold
When I go to car shows, I always seem drawn to day to day classics - Marinas, Maxis, Escorts, Cortinas, Toledos and the like |

Same as you op but that was never going to happen. I also had a passion for Mitsubishi fto. I bought 1 what 20 odd years ago completely stripped and rebuilt it it was a minter and I loved it but in the end it never moved out of my garage. I ended up giving it my sister. A sad end to a much loved car. Know I shouldn't have give it her. |

Ferrari Testarossa. My University friends clubbed together and bought me one on my 21st birthday. They gave me a key and told me it was in the student residence car park. Intrigued I went to find it and discovered they’d bought me a Dinky one |

I had a 308GTS QV as well, I barely used it, but loved it, & want it back now! I deliberately didn't go for Magnum red though! |

"Audi Quattro
Why Quattro?
Four wheel drive back in the 80's. Not many cars had it then, coupled with power and styling."
Do you really need a four wheel drive in Britain? A rear wheel drive is more fun to drive surely |

Had a mark 1 convertible for 10 years, I loved that car!

A Quattro is a normal sized hatchback, like a Mondeo, not an SUV.. |

I know! It was an example. A small four wheel drive is as pointless as a big SUV with 5 seats |

A Nissan Leaf isn't suitable for everyone.. |

FFS the title of this thread is 'Fave car when growing up' - nearly every car quoted on here would be considered either a gas guzzler or a polluter now. |

Well most cars are gas guzzlers.. however we can cut the emissions by driving small engine S and cleaner cars |

"Nice to see the Capri get a mention. Even today, some of the younger guys at work are interested in my past ownership. Mine was the 'Special' edition. The sound from those twin exhausts!"
I had a brooklands 280 and a 3.2 savage if you remember them. I also had a 1966 cortina. 1 owner from new. I dragged it out of the garage it had been in for 40 odd years. Wheels seized and into daylight. Round the 2 head lights crome rims it had a circle of rust that was it. 2 hour after I got it home I had it running. Some payday that was |
