Can you?
I always have an idyllic picture of doing this, all romantic like and gliding along gracefully.
What usually happens is I cling on to the side while some smug 6yr old goes flying past me. It's ok to trip them up in this instance right?
I am going ice skating later and I'm just wondering how long I'll be waiting in a&e afterwards.
Tips to stay upright welcome!

My claim to fame is that I was once featured skating on Dancing on Ice. I didn't realise the man in the middle of the rink having a lesson was from Emmerdale and was being filmed. When the episode aired I could be seen hobbling round the edge of the rink behind him, clinging on to the barrier. |

I love ice skating. All those hour's on roller skates in the late eighties really paid off.
Tips for staying upright.
Bend a little at the knees.
Let your hands and arms balance you instead of leaning.
Breathe out when you push. |

My sister in law did this just before Xmas.
1 broken arm, 4 stitches, one child who is scarred for life, and a toddler who is scarred for life (mentally) by th sight of her mother plummeting towards her, protecting the toddler and breaking her arm in the process.
I gave it a miss. Hippos don’t skate so well |

I’m a decent skier and naively thought I could skate … the Penguin supports saved more then just my embarrassment
But Ms Cane google a few YouTube videos on beginners … I’m sure you can give it a good go |

Nope. Definitely can't now, unless it's the adapted sort where you sit on an arse sledge. I couldn't do it when abled either. So no |

Both of us are very good at ice skating. Our second ever date was ice skating 11 years ago we went regularly for a while but then the kids come along so a few years not skating but now they are 8 and 10 we decided to go last year and also a couple of weeks ago great family day out although James thinks it's funny to kick the back of my skates haha (he's the better skater) once you get the hang of it it's like riding a bike. Good luck and have fun x |

OP get tips from YouTube videos.
Though when I've done it in the past, all I got was cold, with a soggy sore arse from landing on it frequently.
Can you believe people actually pay money for this? I should offer them the same service by making them sit in a bucket of ice cold water with their clothes on.

It does!
And also quite appealing.
I liken it to sex.
Slide in, fumble around a bit, hold on to the rails, fall over exhausted? "
Cold
Hard
And will leave me sore

If you can skate, you can ice-skate. Just ask them over the counter for skates with an edged blade not a flat one. I doubt very much they sharpen public use skates, but you never know! |

For someone who lacks any coordination and struggles to stay upright as is, I’m actually pretty good at ice skating!
Just grab onto someone who’s confident and let them drag you around. |

It's all about your centre of gravity and staying loose, if you tense up you will fall you have to be "fluid" and keep making very minor adjustments to your stance.
Mr H (not professional but I can sk8 sufficiently enough not to end up in A+E) |

I used to love skating... until I had a big fall (hence my broken/scarred nose/eye socket)
I tried to keep skating but lost any confidence, used to speed skate but the reminder stops me now. I also don't bounce as well as 20 years ago!

"I cannot, which is weird considering the tricks I pulled on inline skates in the 90s"
Yep strangely they are 2 completely different disciplines, like you i was an inliner back in the 90s, street, halftime and roller hockey. Ice skating is infinitely more difficult and I found ice hockey impossible.

I love ice skating - I'm crap and have a scar on my chin from a Scottish foray as a teen - but manage to go once every 5 years or so.
Brighton Pavilion is beautiful with the ice rink Dec-Feb - pinks and blues and greens lighting up the craziest palace in the country.
It looks good enough to eat 😋😋.
How did it go CCC? |

at our rink at a certain time it was everyone off the ice
time for the speed skaters
i happen to be one of them as we went that much it was great fun.
if i took a date around i wouldnt leave her but help her, building up her confidence.
and yes i would be towing her while skating backwards
is cold air good for your lungs yes as you exhale better
you soon warm up when your moving
can you kiss and cuddle on an ice rink yes but more so when a person needs the help.

Get away from the wall asap, do some of the taster lessons they’re for complete beginners and very social. Bend the knees to lower centre of gravity and it’s less far to fall. Wear gloves, makes it less scary and less of a big deal when you do stack it! |

I could never stand up on roller skates but roller blades was fun in 95 for me
ice skating was more easier and i was kinda offered a chance for the hockey team.
school football knocked one of the ice hockey team players flat on his arse when we both went for the football after that i was taught on the ice. |

our ice rink run a special card membership for one year

so monday to thursday for 3hrs you soon pick up alot
so instead of 2.00 to get in it was .50 to 1.00 for the 3 hrs that time soon adds up
friday saturday sunday it was packed out tight so never went in those times.
My own daughter tried to rub it in by saying i couldnt ice skate that was until i pulled out my own skating boots.
she soon went quiet and i didnt get an invite to go with her. |
