When you let hobbies go, what might bring you back to them? Or is retirement permanent?

I just got back into cross stitch in a big way because I found a kit I thought I'd lost.

I’d pick cricket up again if I had someone that would go to nets with me.

Same with tennis.

Teach me the ways, to be honest I hate sport but I'd happily come play tennis if I lived closer.

I often leave a hobby alone for months and then pick it up again. That's what a hobby is to me, the chance to enjoy something without the stress of it being mandatory

I’m at a crossover point where I’m contemplating retiring one permanently, and picking a new one.

It’ll be a tough day when it comes, I’ve pursued it since I was single digit aged.

I'm an awful perfectionist and stress gets me terribly even with hobbies. It's one reason I abandon so many things - I turn it into a referendum on my inadequacy 😅

Aww I totally hear you. I got told about some amazing resources a few years ago- one of which was a workbook on perfectionism. I haven't lost the tendencies entirely but it helped me massively.

Search up The Centre for Clinical Interventions (CCI) and workbooks. Honestly, they're a godsend.

When I resumed painting around that time, I used to feel disappointed with all my 'mistakes' and think it ruined the whole picture. But I've come to focus more on the process itself and what that brings me rather than the outcome ie what I produce.

Thank you. I've been through a lot of shit with therapy and this kind of stuff, and I've got myself to a point where I'm functional. Which is a big step up.

But so many of my hobbies get tossed aside because I don't feel like I'm enough. Which is super shit.

Time is mostly the big factor. Iiss playing cricket for example but training twice a week is fine after work, but dedicating my entire Saturday and sometimes Sunday to playin just isn't feasible

With my ADHD I tend to pick loads of hobbies and then leave them for a while if I get bored. What I try to do is have 3-4 projects ongoing at the same time so I can pick one up once I get bored. I’m currently on a strike from crocheting but in my cross stitch era

I’ve picked up reading again mainly novels. I find it so therapeutic and great for my mental health. I try to read most days especially before bedtime.

I should really get my camera out again. Not used it for 2 years. Probably just remember how to turn it on let alone use it

My time is taken up with Surfing, Mountaineering, Travel, & Career right now but…in a storage container I do have a stockpile of those Plastic Plane kits massive scale ones and all of the airbrushes and detail kits to do them properly.

When my life slows down I really do hope to build some of them just never happens

Hahahahaha looks like we’re all lurking here…

That’s not the horrendous 1970’s Air-Fix 1/32 is it?

Good luck with that one…

Vallejo paints are absolutely top tier if you’re going to buy new paints.
