I suppose it's a matter of perception.
Someone with a vast wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for base jumping would likely be a lot more interesting and engaging for someone who was also super into base jumping. But I would not find that conversation interesting.
Sometimes people take their own lack of interest as the other person being dull. It's not necessarily the case. I sometimes love seeing people wax lyrical on something they adore, even if the actual subject matter isn't one that I jave any interest in at all. But I love people watching. I love seeing people express their own love for something. Some people have no interest in that.
Same as I'm not pretty to everyone, I'm also not interesting to everyone, my personality is not a joy to everyone. But for the right people, I tick all the boxes  |

It can be unintentionally hilarious. One of our social circle had a friend who was so dull we called him "The Wild Bore". It was a source of mirth to watch him at a party as he moved from one person to another, literally chasing them away after a few minutes of chat because he was so crushingly dull. Colin Robinson had nothing on this guy. We'd speculate on how long people would last once he got talking to them. And he was totally oblivious.
A bit cruel, perhaps. But we were young, and gay. Well, young, mostly.

I think there’s a commonality to being dull. Boring people are boring because they only talk about themselves. And about their own interests.
Whereas people who are interested in things are interesting themselves. Curiosity is sexy.

Well Mr Glasses, it’s nice to be asked and I will state that I do regularly question my own interestingness when I’m making small talk in social situations.
Although I do have a tendency to be blunt I’m reassured by the sheer amount of people that appreciate my time and attention.
That, of course, could just be down to my ruggedly handsome appearance and gravelly voice that seems to melt hearts from the moment I open my mouth.

Theirs been many times I've been having a conversation and I've had to stifle a yawn as I'm bored.
It don't mean the person is as dull as dishwater tho it just means I find the topic of conversation boring .
It's a bit subjective really, someone I find boring someone else might find interesting and they might find me boring . |

It’s all a matter of context. If you’re with people that share your interests, then you’re never dull.
I once worked with a guy that was a conspiracy theorist and had a passion for tanks. I used to actively avoid conversations with him as he would talk about nothing else and I felt my soul leaving my body if I got drawn into one. I’m sure to his friends he was the life of the party though |

I have met many people like this who are just 'selectively interested/interesting'
They can have a very narrow focus, and may seem boring until you hit 'their' topic. Then you can't shut them up. For the right audience they can be interesting fonts of knowledge. |

It depends on the dishwater surely.
Is it a hard or soft water area
Is the water cold or warm (it makes a difference to the brightness)
Have the dishes been in yet?
What was in said dishes? And how many were there?
