Lockdown anybody confused by the mixed messages?
Jump to: Newest in thread
I’m sure it’s not just us, but does anybody else think we are being given mixed messages?.
In one breath we’re told to stay indoors, & only go out unless it’s absolutely necessary, or you’re a key worker, & in the other breath we’re told to go out to work if we can’t work from home, even if we’re not in a key worker role.
Obviously it’s in the governments interest for as many to go to work as possible, so they don’t have to pay them, but they also want to restrict people going out.
BJ said both today so really unsure what we should do |

Its companies pressuring government to back track
It's always been ambiguous statements and then each councils interpretation and then each person's interpretation
Its basically Chinese whispers from the old days |

I’m fucked right off that all my sites have shut on ‘moral’ grounds and that other house builders are still working.
Could it be that the ‘moral’ stance has something to do with no cunt buying houses as they’re all locked up at home or working their tits off or unfortunately poorly.
It’s obviously just a coincidence that freelance workers like myself make up around 80% of the main contractors workforce so they don’t shell out any more money for us and the other 20% they actually employ the government will pay.

I think it will get stricter due to so many flouncing the rules.
If you can work from home do so.
NHS don't have a choice.
Key workers don't have a choice. |

You will find this is wrong.
The NHS can not make staff work more than contracted hours.
They can ask staff to work on extra and most will due to not wanting to allow colleagues to suffer but all staff are all entitled to time off and at the moment they are pushing that staff don't burn out as it will get worse in weeks to come |

I'm not confused.
I'm confused about the people that are determined to make this situation last even longer by going against the advice given.
I'm amongst the many people that have to go to work - and quite honestly Im offended by everyone going on about how bored they are - while sat at home getting paid.

Yes but I think they are all encouraged to all 'pull together' with the resources they have and being the kind of people they are they do. Respect to all the NHS people for sure.

Oh yes, I'm also getting sick of people complaining about lockdown, asking how "everyone's" coping with the hell that is being at home, how they're managing the boredom of it all, when I'm having to go to work as normal. |

We've all been hung out to dry. Too many grey areas and unless your employer is one of the very few who takes it upon themselves to put the safety of their staff and by proxy their families before profit then the responsibility is on the individual adding to the stress of an already very stressful time. Not counting the obvious key workers of which i am one. I know people being pressured to go to work and being told it's business as normal, if they feel they have to isolate then to do so but it'll be statutory sick pay only. Shame on the politicians and shame on those employers. |

What mixed messages?
Stay home (no un necessary journeys or social contact)...unless.
1. Key worker NHS, food supply (or list of retail allowed to stay open.
2. Go out once for exercise (not driving 3 hours to the seaside for a gentle stroll by the sea).
3. To buy essential supplies, such as food and medicine (not a new x box or iPad or new post lockdown party outfit).
4. To travel to and from work where it is not possible to do it at home.
I do not understand where the confusion comes from.
If you can stay at home with your family dont get close to others. |

Well, I'm certainly not bored This is probably the best time I've had for over 10 years, and the first time I've stayed in my home for more than a few weeks in those 10 years. I'm not getting paid, but I have enough. |

Most, if not all of that, is just basic common sense.
Problem is, many prefer to listen to the pyschobabble on social media, rather than actually read or listen to what the experts are saying. |

Stayat home unless you absolutely need to go out. I'm a carer so I have to work. I'm also asthmatic all these people whining about being home and bored annoy the hell out of me. I'd love to be at home and not have to be going to work and worried about catching this virus. So basically stay at home unless you are a key worker only go out if absolutely necessary and this thing will pass so much faster. And if you're bored find something to bloody do at home or suck it up. |

Ok, so what about 1 and 4?
1 - Stay at home unless you are a key worker, only go out if absolutely necessary
4 - but you can go to work if you cant work from home.
So, as a non key worker that cannot work from home, can I go to work?
My job could be classed as absolutely necessary by the person wanting it done, they want a bathroom tiling so they can use their bathroom and move back into their house. Others will say that tiling is far from necessary. The police are stopping people on their way to work so what would their interpretation of the situation be?
What if I told you that my customer is living with their parents until they have bathroom facilities. This means that they have wash facilities they can use at their parents home so does that mean the bathroom at their own home isn't essential?
How about if I told you their parents where in the vulnerable category, should it then be essential to get my customer in their own home and out of their parents?
This is my current dilemma |

All employers have a duty of care to their employees. If they aren't showing that to your daughter, then she should refuse to work.
The Goverment has issued guidelines to the workplace. These should be adhered to. |

No not unless I get one of the letters from the doctors but cancer patients people who have had organ transplants etc are above asthmatics so I doubt I will get the letter. So I have to keep coming in. We are presently clear of the virus where I work and doing our best to safe guard. If it does come in things may change but at the moment some staff have already left so we are short staffed and these people who live here need care so I will be in here looking after them. I'll just continue to do all I can to prevent myself getting this which includes staying at home on my days off. |

I really don't understand what is so confusing to people.
Let's put it another way
If we were told that there was a murderer on the loose, but nobody knew what they looked like, that they could be absolutely anywhere and was killing indiscriminately, would people still want to risk going out?
And yet that is EXACTLY the situation we are in.
If a foreign power dropped a nuclear bomb on your town and you were told that you'd be OK provided you stayed indoors, I wonder if there would still be people wondering if it applied to them.

If your business isnt key then you shouldn't be asked to work. I work in the construction industry and we have closed all residential work and only continue working at st pancras station ensuring key maintenance works are carried out. My role is office based so I can work from home and I do. If you have not been given key worker status and cant work from home you should not be asked to work. |

Exactly this. There is no confusion. There is a clear published list of "key work".
No confusion ...just confused people...possibly lacking the intelligence to understand...or likely deliberately causing mischief. |

Unless you need to go out, sneaking out to meet friends, shopping as a family, going round a friends for drinks or dinner isn’t a need
Then STAY AT HOME.
Do people really need the government to order them not to go out? Being advised not to go out because there’s a potentially deadly virus being passed around should make all people (unless they really need to go out) STAY AT HOME. |

What I find confusing is they say if someone in your family shows symptoms you should all isolate for 14 days other than the one with symptoms which is 7 days but if a work colleague shows symptoms they go home for a week but all their work colleagues stay in work, why is that? |

I work for a company that are classing me as a 'key worker' (I'm not) I am unable to work from home. I work with 100's of others many of whom are 'vulnerable' and have been told 'it's your choice' to come into work. If we don't work we don't get paid. We are unable to adhere to social distance rules and there are people displaying the symptoms amongst us |

"I’m sure it’s not just us, but does anybody else think we are being given mixed messages?.
BJ said both today so really unsure what we should do "
It's not really that difficult.
Do you need the government to tell you what to do? |

We have not been told that we are key workers as yet however we have a daughter with an open wound on her lower back that's awaiting an operation that's been cancelled
We have entered isolation for our families health
Having to use holidays and hopefully get sick pay but not guaranteed
Think it's a disgrace |

It is a disgrace. I know a company where people are dropping like flies with it but all the other workers are to carry on working until it’s their turn to drop after being in contact with them which is just increasing the risk to others but lining the pockets of those companies that are about the money and not staff welfare. |

Common sense really. If your company has closed your not going. You can’t work at home and your company needs you, your going to work. Shopping is when you need food you need food. . Other wise stay at home . |
