So watching Jeremy Vine and old bullshit is spouting off again on smokers.
The subject is should there be a ban on smoking and vaping.
So this pompous prat who wants to be a doctor on minute then a politician and a presenter the next...has just spouted that if you are a smoker you will be taking up a hospital bed for someone suffering from the virus. Then he points out that being a smoker when the chips are down...that you wont get a ventilator as a fitter person will get it . ..then he tells you to stop smoking ffs.
People are stressed and self isolating and his views do not help as your fecked if you continue smoking and fecked if you stop and get the virus ffs |

"I think if you're on the verge of being hospitalised with a smoking related illness, quitting now won't make a jot of difference. So aye, he's spouting shite, I agree. "

If you had to make the choice about who to put on a ventilator between people equally as ill but one is a smoker. Who is going to get the chance?
The one with the best chance of recovery I suspect with the healthier lungs.
Sounds like they are getting people ready for when these hard choices need to be made. |

I think all smokers will know that, but he was sending so much mixed messages on it that it will only cause distress to those who are struggling.. |

Whilst putting stress on the ones it will effect...its too late to stop now even if you could... |

"Makes no sense to do anything that involves putting your hands and fingers directly to your face and mouth.
Just as ludicrous as all the panic buying and stockpiling going on at the moment
"
That’s a good point. |

One thing's for sure, once all this is over and the government start to pay off all this money they've been spending 20 Bensons is going to cost you about £30 |

As a smoker I completely understand what hes was saying, but he didn't have to be a prick about it, yes at some point in my life I made a choice to smoke, now it's not a choice it's an addiction like any other and a bloody difficult one to break.
If I quit now and need a ventilator in 2 weeks time would I be treat as a smoker or non smoker? If someone as smoked for 30 years and has been stopped for 20 years would they be treat as a smoker or non smoker? I ask because the damage is already done, while I appreciate that the lungs do repair themselves over time the scarring from smoking still remains. Also if it's a choice between a smoker and someone who is "morbidly obese" who gets the ventilator? It's not as black and white as he made it out to be. |

The senior medics I know who are no longer treating outpatients are being given lessons by the tutors of all the medical students who finished early to get them reacquainted with stuff they haven’t done for years like dealing with sepsis etc. They are all quite shocked by how little understanding there is in the general population of how bad this could get. |

Jeremy vine is a twat always turn off as soon as his progress starts.
Smokers are going to be badly hit by this bug and I'm sure they know it, but life is about choices they made theirs and will have to live with the consequences, doesn't mean I dont have sympathy for them and that's from a completely non smoker |

Unfortunately if there are not enough ventilators then a stark choice has to be made by the doctors. In Italy they are already making those choices. One ventilator and a 62 year old and a 87 year old requiring it. It goes to the 62 year old . Hence why we need to keep to the government advice to keep the numbers down and make sure there are enough ventilators for all |

We started occasional smoking again after 17 years, love it , especially after sex.
Smoking Marlboro touch blue - less smoke , less smell,, and much less tax
There’s also a very sexy WhatsApp smoking group with a few members in here, they are among the healthiest looking women I’ve ever seen.
There are much bigger killers like stress and obesity, calm the fuck down |

As a smoker who knows I need to give up as it's really bad for me...I know all of what you put.
What I object to is some doctor, columnist, politician, tv presenter dishing stupid opinions out by telling smokers to stop in one breath ,then telling them they wont get a ventilator in the next...ffs all he is doing is causing unwanted stress and anxiety. Doctor? My arse |

Not exactly on topic but did you know certain types of tobacco are being banned in May and that by 2030 the government has plans for a complete ban on smoking now given how much revenue is generated from tax on tobacco products what do you think they will increase to offset the shortfall in income? |

Comparing the consequences of tobacco smoking to alcohol consumption flies in the face of all the scientific evidence which suggests that smoking is by far more damaging to health.
But ok. Let us continue on with the worrying abandonment of all logical reason to suit our personal desires. |

As someone who became morbidly obese as a direct result of replacing cigarettes with hot buttered toast, I’m in trouble. Add in my asthma that was diagnosed 8+ years after quitting smoking and it looks like I’m completely fucked! |

Stop smoking to try and reduce the effects of covid19.
Stop drinking alcohol to reduce pressure on NHS.
Stop eating sugar to feed the elite and slowly cause yourself underlying health problems.
Do be safe
Do help your families
Do help your neighbours
Do self isolate if possible
Do smile do breathe do be positive and let's beat this together!
Peace |
