"Its not going away.. Not while theyve got you where they want you. In my opinon "
It’s a virus. Virus’ mutate to survive, that’s what they do. So of course it’s not going away. Don’t recall anyone ever saying it would. |

Are we, who said so.
Don't suppose you've got any dates, may have to cancel some stuff.
On reflection, probably rather not know and live in ignorant bliss. |

There is community random testing going on in conjunction with random postal tests being sent.
Add to the the actual hospital admission data and there is fairly conclusive evidence
Fwiw we are a higher rate of hospital admissions for this time of year than we were in 2020 or 2021 by a factor of 5 .
And all these figures are on the gov website. |

We know 5 who have covid at this very moment. All triple and in some cases quadruple jabbed. During the lockdowns we personally didn’t know of anyone that had got it. |

Hence no measures in place it’s inevitable cases have shot up. Ironically those we know who are infected currently are all retired therefore don’t mix that often. It’s concerning as there are more infected now overall and this is the height of summer when many are outdoors more. Come winter I suspect measures will be back in place. |

I'm pretty sure that "we're done with measures" and "people should exercise personal responsibility", no matter what happens.

On the plus side fewer cases are ending up in hospital. |

"Is the flu going to disappear for another winter then? " well we can thank Putin for getting rid of the virus as it seemed to disappear when he invaded Ukraine. So if China moves on Taiwan then yes; the flu could well disappear again.

You really do talk rubbish. Is it the media attention on the virus you're actually commenting on? When Putin initiated his "special operation", the ward I was on became a covid ward. This isn't hearsay, this isn't social media fake news, it happened! |

"Is the flu going to disappear for another winter then? " the flu is less contagious than covid so while people were taking measures to avoid covid they also hampered the flu virus too.
Amazingly it shows how bad our personal hygiene must be normally but the biggest one for the flu will have been people not going into work or education or anywhere really with symptoms and the wearing masks.
They helped against covid and all but eradicated the flu transmission |

Very true. But at the cost of not having a life! I'll happily take the possibility of flu/covid over that shit show of 20/21 |

Just tested positive today. This is my second time. I have an immune system disorder and covid triggered it to go mental and attack my organs last time, so ended up with stage 3 kidney failure. God knows what this lovely little virus will do this time around. |

It's pointless giving a sensible and rational answer. Most of them on here don't want to hear that. |

I agree both the political will and the desire of the people to back to the nightmare lock downs were for many is less than zero.
The damage lockdowns and restrictions caused to businesses and especially mental health has been life changing for a lot of people.
We work currently with this year's June 22 school leavers and the damage done to those young people's mental health is eye opening. They were ages 14 - 16 during the 2 years where schools closed, could sit exams, couldn't see friends, locked in your own home bar a daily walk etc etc.
It was hard for many adults to get through but for teenagers aged 14 to 16 across the pandemic period it's was incredibly destructive to a vital period of their life where social interaction will shape their personality and life.
We are running a summer programme including mental health support, CBT mindfulness, coping strategies etc filled with exciting events such as paintball, go karting, rewinding etc.
All this week and next we are doing home visits with the parents support to try and reach as many of these lost generation of teens to see if we can get then out of the bedrooms and able to take their first steps to rebuilding their lives.
Trust me the damage caused by the covid response is very real. I'm only talking about those who were 14 when this start and have now just left school. Also they are the first group who have to take all the exams but many are so behind they cut themselves off from education completely.
I think history will assess the covid response as excessive and damaging to people of all all ages groups and backgrounds. Some worse hit than others.
We have had similar pandemics / outbreaks like the Hong Kong flu of 1969 that claimed 100,000 lives + in a short window of time but society when on throughout.

I don't think anyone would argue that they were a net benefit. Just better than what might have been the alternative.
History will judge, but we have an incomplete picture at this stage. I don't think the "lockdowns were the worst of it" rhetoric will be the most persuasive in the long run, given the growing evidence on infection and reinfection.
But as I say, we shall see. |

I agree we are still to close to the event and all the impact data on both sides is incomplete.
One day in the future there will be a reckoning where the impact across all sides and areas are properly assessed and a final judgment then made on if the benefits of UK covid responses and measures taken out weighted the costs and toll that it took.

And, indeed, the toll of inaction. The evidence isn't looking good, despite the ways things have swung politically. |

Good point well made. I'm not suggesting top trumps in any way but the issues are not just limited to 14 to 16s...i work with years 2s all the way up to uni age. The worst I've seen is the uni students. Being locked in, paying full fees for courses that were hardly if at all delivered. Cancelled lectures, labs, practicals, library access, little if any support or pastoral care. Breakdowns and falling off courses with no recourse and no investment in recovery. Good for those who have managed to get through it. But lots have been badly scarred by the experience.
Very interested in the work you're doing with the 14 to 16s though. Sounds very positive and much needed. |
