hiding from cock pics.

In the current situation so many people are not going to be able to work, either because their industry is shut down, or their company has had to close or enforce limitations.

It looks to me like we are going to be faced with massive unemployment and people deeply suffering.

Even if the government tried to continue both the job retention scheme and self employment grant, it can't be financially even a medium term plan.

It just still looks like it's going to be a very tough ride ahead.

I'm worried about the recession that must be on its way and all the situations that with bring.

Many of us (including myself) may have to have a complete career change which can be difficult when employment is more scarce and you are 50.

This is the male here and i have exactly worries as you.

The chancellor admitted today that we are already in a recession.

Which scares me more than the virus.

With me being 51 its going to be hard to retrain if I lose my job.

I think a lot of small self employed businesses will pop up, home delivery will be huge as many of us will online shop, I feel sorry for the high street shops as people change their browsing habits they will not receive the footfall they need unless they can move online

Put all of certain demographics to death cause their a burden, wait till it's your turn, which could be earlier than you choose through no fault of yours, here's betting you'd change you opinion rather quickly when it's pertinent to you ... stinky comment which you need to retract to say the least!

On the financial side

Expect austerity and tax rises to the Conservative triple lock

Everything g is about to get more expenses either through taxation or taxation and rising production costs.

Not to mention another round of government sector pay freezes.

Thats the Conservative way.

I don't do see them doing anything politically different to 2010

There won't be a sea change moment until another party poses a credible moderate plan with a sound economic plan... Like a other "new Labour"

More companies will find out people working from home is a good idea and big office blocks will empty.

Which ever government gets into power will have to claw the money back somehow, dont think a different colour party in number 10 will make any difference, taxes will rise.

Unemployment will rise, but we have been in a good place employment wise for a long time, it had to end soon.

Only guaranteed thing is change.

My experience is that you are desirable in the market as an over fifty, better range of skills and knowledge than younger workers, but money talks so you end up working for lower money than before.

But in the next few years being employed at all may be the hard part.

Not be facetious but yeah sure... Give me 100k+ a year control of one other the largest economies in Europe and the political power to move a party and I could write alot of new policies.

Mostly around creating a boarder industrious economy that embraces trade with other nations. Not tires to close its boarder to what is already an island nation.

Being an mp is now a career, most front benchers like sunak have had world class education, positions of power inside the biggest financial institutions in his case goldmans and developing his own hedge fund.

He is married to the daughter on an Indian billionaire.

Thats not to take anything away from him...but copying and paste the last 10 years of economic Conservative policy of screw the poor and focus on wealth creation is hardly new.

Reaganomics has been a shit show in every country that has implemented it.

Sunak is being banded around as the next mp is that all it takes these days. A few coherent speaches and couple of pressed suits?

I guess anyhting is better than bojo

Anyone considering a career change - this crisis has proved there'll always be jobs in the health and social care sectors. The tories realise their mistake regarding removal of the nursing bursary - so if you want a new profession, go for a degree based one.

Unemployment numbers have been fudged for a long time.

Lots of people where working part time or often 2 jobs.

Same with labour when thet dropped employmenr numbers by moving long term unemployed on to ESA "the sick" benefits

Most people have not recovered from 2008 prior to the virus standards of living where still down from 08.

08 will look like a storm in tea cup next to this

This I have had to work away from home on weekdays since 2008 just to try and get somewhere near what I was making locally before the crash.

When I see job unemployment numbers are down I think aye how many of those people are working 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meat.

My wage droped dramatically in 2008 and has more or less stagnated since.

When any question arises with regards to rewarding front line workers, it is brushed aside. The tories won't want to pay out a monetary reward. They won't renegotiate pay either, unless there is a public outcry. As for death in service benefit £60,000 - it seems generous, but it's a darn sight cheaper than being taken to court over PPE...

Sorry I wasn't clear - there are many support worker vacancies, so my point should have been to point out every level is required from support worker to degree based.

Regarding death in service, I'm pretty sure with my last job it was 50k (private sector) and my understanding was it covered by insurance. Does anyone know what it was for NHS? I'm just wondering how generous this is and whether it's covered by insurance policies?

As an essential worker I cant wait to be taxed an absolute fuck ton so a whole bunch of people could stay at home.

While I appreciate something like the furlough scheme had to happen, I cant help but feel the people "keeping the economy going" are the ones that are going to get screwed the hardest here.

Not in the slightest, I feel the one working 12 hour shifts should be getting tax breaks for "keeping the economy going"

I'd quite happily be sat at home earning 80% of my pay but it shouldn't come at the cost of EVERYONE suffering through another recession when the vast majority of essential workers have seen workloads double or triple during this time.

If you're getting funding through the scheme it's to help you out, not me, as I say I'd be more than happy to be sat at home on 80%.

Keep in perspective income tax is Likely to go up 1% hardly a fuck ton.

That said when pay raises have been about 5-8% gross since 2008

And inflation in that time has been 10-15%

Wallets are stretched and they about be stretched even further.

The problem with the last 08 economic "recovery" was the distribution of wealth. The money stayed at the top or invested.

It never filtered through to wages.

And the economic plan this time will result in the same thing.

Expect at least a 5-10% squeeze on your personal finances and thats if you keep your current job or its salary

So what would you do to stop the recession we are in?

Have people survive with very little money.

So they are not spending anything and the circle just gets worse?

Well my dear smoking parent of an asthmatic child .

And all the others faked/ill-informed outrage, nothing I said is incorrect, 95% of deaths are in the unhealthy or elderly population.

We are paying a hell of a cost for trying to protect that minority from a virus that the WHO, suspect will be with us for ever now.

Obviously, this reality is quite difficult for much of the population to understand.

How much are the lower paid health care workers (Inc nurses) owed then if the gross is that high and yet only received 1% or pay freezes since then.

I’m more worried about my kids at the start of thier studies/careers. Over the last 30 years I’ve had to retrain several times , study, started businesses etc and so always managed to have an income, it’s just a case of being ready to adapt, relocate, even take a pay cut or downsize to move forward sometimes and by doing that you build resilience

"As an essential worker I cant wait to be taxed an absolute fuck ton so a whole bunch of people could stay at home.

While I appreciate something like the furlough scheme had to happen, I cant help but feel the people "keeping the economy going" are the ones that are going to get screwed the hardest here.

Keep in perspective income tax is Likely to go up 1% hardly a fuck ton.

That said when pay raises have been about 5-8% gross since 2008

Wallets are stretched and they about be stretched even further.

And the economic plan this time will result in the same thing.

Expect at least a 5-10% squeeze on your personal finances and thats if you keep your current job or its salary

How much are the lower paid health care workers (Inc nurses) owed then if the gross is that high and yet only received 1% or pay freezes since then. "

Very good point.

They are young enough to look forward and work in an essential industry, perhaps extend their degrees - go for masters in a new area.

Ws have one on furlough and one working 12 hour shifts 6 days per week to make up the difference.

Sweeping statement much?

Not in the slightest, I feel the one working 12 hour shifts should be getting tax breaks for "keeping the economy going"

I'd quite happily be sat at home earning 80% of my pay but it shouldn't come at the cost of EVERYONE suffering through another recession when the vast majority of essential workers have seen workloads double or triple during this time.

If you're getting funding through the scheme it's to help you out, not me, as I say I'd be more than happy to be sat at home on 80%.

So what would you do to stop the recession we are in?

Have people survive with very little money.

So they are not spending anything and the circle just gets worse?"

I think the point im trying to make that you're missing is that the furlough scheme while essential should be paid back by the people currently benefitting from the furlough scheme not the people who are working their asses off currently to keep everything going.

I dont want claps on a Thursday, I want to know I'm not getting screwed hard financially after all this is done for having to work my ass off in dangerous conditions for zero extra benefits.

Aaand in that time nurse diplomas become a thing of the past. Nurses are now degree based but pay reviews never changed to take account of this.

I didn't ask to be furlough and the mrs didn't ask to be working 6 days per week on 12 hour shifts with death all around her.

We have worked for the last 30 years paying our taxes.

I cant wait to get back to work.

Still dont get your point though.

People never asked to be furloughed.

The only long term answer is either a vaccine, but that isn't guaranteed in anyway or survival of the fittest or vulnerable population self shielding and the rest of the population carrying on as normal.

Contact rcn and discover what is happening about all the monies in the NHS charities. The NHS is supposed to be all about transparency, hmmmmm. There's a need to discover whether the money was given for workers or patients. Like Captain Tom, it was to staff to say thank you. It shouldn't be misappropriated to buying equipment for example.

I know a donation was paid to London nurses (£250) to those who claim it, first come, first served.

You know the pollution that all these fit and healthy people contribute to.... Joke or not, it's very insensitive

I think pitting essential staff against people who have been furloughed is completely pointless but will keep the gmnt happy as it prevents them from answering difficult questions.

No one asked to be furghloed..they didnt have a choice.

Why each individual case is not being treated as a mini ongoing loan by the government to be paid back at a later date by the individual claiming the payment is what's baffling me.

As I've said several times in this thread, I appreciate you didnt ask to be furloughed but I've not asked to be taxed extra because you have been while I've still been at work doing god knows how many hours a week, doubling workloads, no additional pay.

Yes I have, we've been isolated since the first week of March, he had a hospital admission, tested negative for covid, so I pulled all my kids out of school and shielded all of us. Still doesn't excuse the comments made, it's insensitive to those who are at risk and those who have lost loved ones

I agree, why should public sector and civil servants who designed built and delivered the furlough scheme, self emlpoyed stuff plus all the Universal Credit systems be punished for the 45% on furlough.

Ive heard a neighbour shout with joy at the extension... Seeing it as free money to upgrade house.

"Divide and rule, folks; works every time.

Muppets.

How conducive to debating... "

If you consider the majority of posts on this thread to be a debate, then I suppose that your comment is justifiable. To me however, most of them are simply tit for tat squabbling.

You and a few others do actually debate on these forums, and I commend you for it, but you are in a minority and anyway, it wasn't you to whom I was referring.

Already you can see the cracks in solidarity appearing between those having to work through this pandemic, and those who, through no fault of their own, are now on furlough, many of whom face a very uncertain future.

However hard it may be for the people having to work at the moment, at least they have an almost certain chance of remaining in their jobs at the end of all this. How many now on furlough, the vast majority of them against their wishes, have the same prospects?

The supposed documents from the treasury were leaked with the specific purpose of sowing this sort of disunity, and from what I've read here on this thread, they've achieved the exact result they were designed to. If we can't stick together at this time and show that the status quo is no longer acceptable, then we can surely expect a return to the economic measures of the past decade, and that means yet more hardship for all but the few.

I bought this subject up in the forums at the start of lockdown , ie some people who are living above their means with new cars mortgages etc but some fabbers just laughed , not so funny now is it when the stark reality hits home , Don’t forget there is a penalty to furlough , watch out for tax hikes , council tax increases and higher prices in the shops ,

"Divide and rule, folks; works every time.

Muppets.

How conducive to debating...

"

That's better .

I must admit that I feel for those on the front line (where I would be under different circumstances) and those furloughed for very different reasons. I also feel for other key workers but they are less exposed to the virus. We definitely should not be divided but united as most of us are mere minions.

This is known as the debt to income ratio.

Crazy ratios where allowed pre 2008 think 100% mortgages and self certification

As we reached the peak of this economic cycle by 2017 real profit became harder and harder to find and high levels of returns where expected on investment.

Which pushed riskier loans and high debt to Income ratios... Car loans are the new personal sub prime debt market. That's why you see eveyone driving around in a leased 25k new car every 2 years.

Debt is required to move an economy and you have two options...

State debt and higher taxes like you get under a labour government

Or personal debt and lower taxes under a Conservative government

Neither are right or wrong... But you need a balance and we don't have that right now and probably won't until the next election.

I hope all this triggers another election and the public decided what economic future we wil use to see this through rather than a handful of mps

I only started smoking 2 years ago from the stress of a family death and divorce.... So again, my son was born with asthma, as in has had it since birth.... Try again lovely

Hahaha, and your excuse for smoking in the house of an asthmatic 5 yo now is.... ??? "

If you read my response to someone else. I'm not a "regular" smoker, I smoke when I'm out and having a drink. I don't smoke in my house or around my kids.... So again you making assumptions.... I list myself as a smoker here because some people don't want to meet to meet smokers, and even though I'm not a "regular" smoker, saying I'm non smoker would be misleading to someone who's dead against smokers

Recession is reality, so we need to plan to avoid it depression. With record low borrowing costs, we'll need to engage to rebuild, potentially with a green new deal that focuses on the environment and our health.

"In the current situation so many people are not going to be able to work, either because their industry is shut down, or their company has had to close or enforce limitations.

I had a phone call on monday that I'm being made redundant so as of June 11th I will be unemployed, wont get any redundancy as my 2 years would have been on 21st June. Now got to try and get another job during all this

"Yet another thread attacking those of us that have been furloughed! Most of us have NOT done so by choice, and MOST of us want to return to work as soon as possible. Reading most comments on the subject 'sour grapes' springs to mind in my opinion

"Attacking" No.

Why each individual case is not being treated as a mini ongoing loan by the government to be paid back at a later date by the individual claiming the payment is what's baffling me.

"

Because there will be many individuals living paycheck to paycheck who won't ever be able to afford to repay two or three or more months wages once this is over?

No, not because they are successful, but because seriously, who needs a billion pounds to lead a luxury lifestyle? They have far more money than they could ever possibly need.

A lot of billionaires don't necessarily have their money stashed away, granted, most of it is in shares, but those that do have a few billion in offshore accounts should really be asked to chip in a little extra, don't you think?

I know many billionaires are also philanthropists, and good for them too, but what real difference would it make to the lifestyle of someone worth 10 billion, to donate half of their fortune to their country of residence in a time of great need. Do you think that they couldn't possibly live on a mere 5 billion?

"As an essential worker I cant wait to be taxed an absolute fuck ton so a whole bunch of people could stay at home.

While I appreciate something like the furlough scheme had to happen, I cant help but feel the people "keeping the economy going" are the ones that are going to get screwed the hardest here.

So they are not spending anything and the circle just gets worse?

I think the point im trying to make that you're missing is that the furlough scheme while essential should be paid back by the people currently benefitting from the furlough scheme not the people who are working their asses off currently to keep everything going.

I dont want claps on a Thursday, I want to know I'm not getting screwed hard financially after all this is done for having to work my ass off in dangerous conditions for zero extra benefits. "

yes that's exactly what my wife's entire department feels too - she works in the largest hospital trust in UK.

All those weekly clapping is condescending; if you want to reward someone, give them a 20% pay increase , financed by tax increases on those receiving furlough now.
