Ummm.. Royal Engineers.. like most of the other Corps have our own Paras and Commando's.

Also Royal Engineers are the ones who tend to clear the minefields for everyone else to go through.. Always right up the front with Paras, Commandos, SF, Cavalry, Infantry and the AAC.

Most branches of the Services are told they're the best. It's just the Paras tend to believe it.. When all they do is jump out of aircraft and tab a bit more than regular Infantry. Nothing Special about that.. SAS, SBS.. I'd say if the Forces had a top dog.. it'd be those men and women. Not Para's and Commando's.. not craphats and REMF's. Though everyone has their part to play.

I'm not trying to belittle your Corps and mean no disrespect, but Parachute Regiment is well known and disliked by many. Calling yourselves top dogs may go some way to explain the conflict in personality.

Out of all the Para's I had the fortune to meet.. both Regt and attached Corpsmen.. only two didn't have that jumped up pride about themselves for passing P Company.

I know we were disliked for our arragance and fighting with other regiments when based else where in bars etc but let's me honest about one thing we were the elite where it was really a matter of kill or be killed we cleared paths for every fucker when it was on top and parras you had in your reg couldn't make it with the pf that was brutal training that reg had one thing in common you had all have a screw loose with no fear make it I was in the royal engineers start with then got picked out for the paras every fucking drop we made if there was 20 of us in af fucking gan Iraq only 15 16 made it so forgive me for getting pretty irated on a thread which shouldn't even be on here you of all people should understand that I've got memories of then tours nightmares be like a fairy tale and end of the day we're all one with fuck all thanks I'm not been aggressive with you pal just personnel to me

"Royal Engineersm, Iraq, 2003.. I think we were ahead of the Parachute Regiment.

It's the top dog thing.

I dunno.. theres a line or two in that, that doesn't quite ring true with me.

I'll let the others dissect it closer if they want to. I can't be arsed. Sapper here if he,was a para he'd have his para tatt plastered all over his pics, thats how vain they are, glorified infantry man who jumps "

typical RAF station hairdresser, army had some grumpy old bloke with a chair some clippers and a pair of scissors.

always interesting who came out after serving. I generally suppressed my sexuality when in. Some who did come out really did surprise me.

Lots of testosterone about, to be honest only once or twice in 10 yrs did i think I could drop to my knees and suck that fabulous cock. You know how it is squaddies are obsessed with who has the biggest cock in the squadron. My release was the Hannover gay saunas thank God, but did play with the local skank.

Umm.. no.. I dont recall any of the Lads being interested in anyones cocks.. We were all too busy trying to cop off with the girls we met in the few night clubs we were allowed in.

Lots of nakedness.. Squadron bar games, communal living areas, zero privacy and the like. Occasional game of Botty slapping may faze in or out of fashion.. but it was more to creep each other out than anything homo-erotic.

Maybe it's just me and my perception of things.

Gay men were allowed to join as I joined up. I never once felt the urge to tell anyone that I was bi. Not out of fear.. though if it had gotten out.. I'd have been very upset.

I didn't want to be treated any differently. Didn't want it to effect friendships. Didn't think it was anyones business.

As an older man. None of that really matters to me anymore. Though I still prefer to keep my sexuality private. It's only the general view of the forum that's making me keep my status as is, that and the reaction from homophobic women once its revealed.

Though on the flip side.. I've never been more popular with women as I am now, wearing my heart on my sleeve, warts and all. Which.. is the best compliment I could ask for.

I was in Bassingbourne (Fuck that airfield man!) for Basic Training and Gibraltar Barracks near Aldershot for my Combat Engineer training. Chatham in Kent for a little Trade training (was going to be a design draftsman initially). Then up to Leconsfield for Driver Training.. finally out to Paderborn in Germany (would love to visit again).

From there.. onto Mrkonicgrad in Bosnia and Basrah Province in Iraq.

Lots of things I hated about Army life.. but it was worth it for the Adventure.
