I send a wink back
I think it's nice to get a wink but a message is far better. I suppose a wink shows the other person is interested and always ensures I take a look at their profile for a start.
wink wink say no more lol |

Winks are a good way to see if the other person is interested...
Some say they ignore winks, bet they send them though
Maybe it should be a hello message rather then a wink...
After all, I would say hello to someone in a pub if I wanted to chat to them, rather than a wink.

Since we do meet single guys and dont want inbox overflowing and have to reply to every message(single guys filtered in privacy), we use the winks so the guys can let us know they are interested and if we are interested in them will message them back to say so, upon doing so then allows them to send a message to us past the filters... It works for us anyway

most those tht wink, are sick of being ignored from rude people they have messaged in the past maybe. whats the point of sending a well written message when you just get ignored.....sod that, i'll start winking.....!.
maybe a dislike option can be administered for the receiver of the wink, if they not flattered? |

I like winks, they show an interest and if I like the profile of the winker ill either wink back or maybe send a short message
I can see why people use them especially the single men,it saves them having the majority of their messages deleted
Personally I don't see them as lazy
You can't moan about a wink being cut and pasted |

We wink back if we are interested, we like winks because you don't have to send "thanks but no thanks" messages to those you aren't interested in.
We won't write to someone who has sent us a wink until they write to us first. |

i look who has sent it ,before winking back .
while we are talking about winks .
i had a wink the other day from a single lady who lives at the other end of the country ,and as there is no chance what so ever of us ever meeting , why wink in the first place ,as she had looked at my profile ,so i assume she must have known that i dont travel at all .

I personally think its a lazy way of making contact unless its followed up by a message. After all it doesnt take much to send a quick you look a nice couple etc. x |

thanks folks. We've attracted winks from a few people who don't really seem to fit our profile preferences, but as newbies, we didn't know the form for responding or ignoring them.
Cheers.

Many do think that, but others find them very usefull, especially the people new to the scene, sending a message for the first few times can be quite daunting for fear of rejection, responding to a message with a negative response can be quite daunting. I
Ignoring a wink because your not interested or sending a wink just to test the water is an easy option for those who are a little shy. |

The amount of people who’ve sent us a wink believing we're a M/F couple, or we're just looking for male action has forced us to bin all winks unless accompanied by a message, if someone shows interest in us, it's only fair they read our profile and quote the password to ensure we're what their looking for. |

In my experience alot of the winks I've recieved are from people who are the complete apposite of who I'm looking for.
I think they have their place though and I will always respond to a wink if I'm interested. |

At the end of the day I am thinking that a site that has all the options is a good site.
Winks use em or ignore em
Meet Today use it or ignore it
Forums use them or ignore them
etc etc etc
Some people will like all the features some of the time.
Some people will like all of the features all of the time
Rarely will all people will like all of the features all of the time
Just enjoy the featurs you like and ignore the rest, in this case ignore the winks, or even put at the top of your profile "winks welcome" or "winks ignored"
Perhaps if everyone did that more people would check the profile to see if winks are welcome before sending them, perhaps even the site would make it a feature of the FILTER options ie accept winks, dont accept winks |

We like winks as the way we see it is that they have read your profile and are inviting you to take a look at theirs. If we like what we see we message them straight away, if not then its not as personal as ignoring a message and the sender hasnt gone t a huge amount of time and trouble compiling an email. |

we added no winks, but generally say hi back in message ofrm.
We do not write loads (well we use to but not geeting answer from the person winking, we find very rude) so we will answer a wink if like other people say there profile fits !

We're okay with winks, as they merely show an inkling, which on further inspection might become interest. We say this on our profile, by way of inviting winks & invites; if there's no 'Ping' we just say so and move along. I don't think people are easily offended unless you're rude.
We're no models or athletes, but we seem to be some people's cup of tea!

Its a way of showing someone that your interested without sending a message.
If the interest is mutual with any luck they may send back a message.
If not, then at least they're not put in the awkward position of having to compose a "Thanks but no thanks" reply.
So yes,we think winks are useful.

i think folk that ignore all winks are too far up their own bottom
not everyone is comfortable with going straight into sending a message with the prospect of being rejected or ignored, so its harmless if you like them wink back, why ignore someone you might like just cause you got a wink from them |

I think winks are useful if you are not sure the cpl/person would be interested, but you want to say I like your profile. There's less pressure to reply than a message I think - I think its a bot rude not replying to a message with a simple 'thanks for the message but we're not interested currently'. I love winking....! |

It seems to be the census that some people like winks, some don't.....not really a surprise really, as happily we are all different.
What would be good would be if people are going to have a view on a subject, that they wouldn't attempt to insult a group of people who don't see things their way.
Off to check the winks we always forget to check. |

My advice would be check the profile of member who sent it? Make sure there is a message to go with it? and if interested reply in kind wink and message.
Timewasters generally wink without messaging so beware - There are loads of them on here. |

I don't mind winks, and wonder if those that are angered by them just don't see the idea behind them, to me the winks are here to send a polite 'Hi, would you like to check out my/our profile' but without pestering with a message that so many will feel they have to reply to for the sake of politeness, a wink to me is like in a club you may see someone that takes your fancy, so a polite wink or smile may get you the result you hope, a wink or smile back.
With so many people not being entirely honest or expressive in their profiles about what they do seek, a wink is a nice way to get noticed, quite simply, if you like the looks of the one that winked, then wink back, allow them to be the first to message, then if they do message in reply to your replied wink, they are not being lazy. |

I don't mind winks - don't see them as lazy, just a quick 'hi, like what we see, take a look at us' message encapsulated in a simple wink! I either wink back or send a mesage and it's usually a message unless they're miles away, obvious fakes, smokers etc - then they just get deleted! Z |

we answer all winks and check the profile just like the invites but generally it is to no aviale as it says on profile that a no might offend so please dont ask but do people read I think not
but have chatted to a real nice guy who I missed out by not answering his wink and now we are good mates so it goes to show that all it takes is a few nice words |

I've never looked at my winks home page shows 0 only looked because of this thread. I have loads all pointless: from couples I'm straight so what's that about? Men from all over the country unless Gateshead and Glasgow are new London boroughs!
I won't be responding as I find winks lazy and as all I've seen are from people I'm not looking for so obviously not read my profile: why bother? |

I said earlier in this thread that we like the winks option and why.
But having thought about it a little more I was wondering how couples like us who do use them and like them think about winks from single guys.
If a couple wink us we check out thier profile and if we would like to know them better or meet we wink back, we believe thay should then mail us since we have shown a mutual interest and they initiated things.
We don't meet single males off the internet, we like to meet them at clubs, it says that on our profile, so when we do get a wink off a single male we block them, it's not being nasty but we think people who can't even be bothered reading our profile won't be that bothered if we arranged a meet or even worse, read our profile and ignored it. Therefore they have proved to us that they are not someone we are interested in one iota.
Actually we do the same with couples who ignore or dont read our profile, like those who "wont meet smokers" or those whose age criteria we don't match.
Anyway rabbiting on again, what I was wondering was:
What do couples who like winks but dont meet single males think when they get a wink from them
and:
What do couples who like winks think when they get a wink from a single male, do they take a look at the profile and if interested wink back or do they see it the same as the "oneliner mail" and bin it straight away, wanting to know more about a guy than a wink tells them ? |

As I stated earlier Jed, so many people here are not exactly straight with what they seek, so many couples claim not to seek single males but actually do, they state they are not seeking so they will not be inundated with messages from single guys and can pick and choose in their own way and time.
I see winks as a way to get a little attention to ones profile, that's all, if you have no interest in certain groups, be that single guys/ couples etc then ignore the wink I would say, each to their own but I don't see the point in blocking just because they winked, in all the time we have been here we have only felt the need to block one person, but that's just us. |

A couple receiving a Wink from a Single Guy even when they state they won't meet them have at least 2 options to consider, ignore it or take it that the Single Guy liked their profile and Winked as a compliment, I may be wrong but I find nothing wrong with them and know couples who find them flattering. |

Actually what I would like is a "auto wink response" message... something along the lines of:
"thank you for the wink, but If you are really interested in me, then I would rather that you sent me a more personal message, thank you x"
something nice... but gets across that not everyone likes them..... then people would have the option of accepting them.. or not..... |

A good idea _abio but I still prefer the "winks" or "no winks" option whereby you can opt to recieve them or not, like the option we all have to stop single males mailing us. |

Our profile clearly states at the top NO WINKS, this is in capitals and stated three times, but alas we still get winks from people.
This just confirms why we don't want winks, it's lazy, so lazy, these people cannot even be bothered to read our profile. So why would we want to meet with then? Also how do they even know that they meet our requirements? |

That is one of the reasons we like them, they don't just aren't just showing you who likes you but in your case they are also showing you who to avoid |

we dont mind winks like ppl say its a quick way to see if theres a chance of chat, we reply to winks either a wink back if we are interested or a mail thx but no thx if not interested, we started using winks as we got sick of writing a nice mail like ppl wanted for them to not even reply even if just a thx no thx, so now if ppl dont reply we block them and if we not interested we,ll block them after a mail back from us saying thx no thx, if ppl had more manners then ppl wouldnt be sending them xxxx |
