I would play devil's advocate and suggest most people rave over the artistic side of shibari. Few, get Kinbaku. In a kinbaku picture you are looking at the expression and thr body language, not so much at the tie. As Steve Osada said on FL, half jokingly " In shibari you tie trees, kinbaku is pornographic".

I think it's hard to convey, well, the connection through a photograph. The snapshot nature of 1/60 doesn't lend itself so well to telling the story. |

Intersting THREAD you might say, but seriously, I knew a fella who lost his life through rope bondage. The guy was very highly strung, and the suspense was killing him! It was just a situation that he got roped in to, not like anyone was stringing him along, or he might have told them to get knotted. We say though that before his passing, it might have been appropriate for him to change his name to Stringfellow. |

I’d be interested in learning more but finding the time is really difficult. I’ve attended a couple of workshops and can do basics , neat single column ties and a few restraint positions but doing it competently takes a long time unless you’re tying notts regularly. I’d be interested in workshops covering different skills , styles, types of ropes , practical tips etc
For me it doesn’t matter what it’s called but it’s about the process and that requires a strong connection and trust between two people (and usually patience!) and then creating something, usually for photography. It’s an expression of dominance, submission & restraint and different emotions, moods and lighting that I want to capture on film. And then often it leads to kinky sex with one person all tied up  |

In the newbies corner of one I go to, they go though all the different skills, styles, ropes and loads and loads of tips, this also moves into the opportunity to tie and be tied with like minded people and gain their peer experiences and tuition, and of course go to the munch afterwards |

There is a peer rope in Croydon, Zensensual will likely know better than I, there is are workshop type events going that way.
Gatwick dungeon do peer ropes I think, but thats a bit of trek for you

If you search for "Christian Red" he is nottingham based, give group and private tuition and will likely be a good source for what rope events are happening that way as I believe his partner is involved with them.

Pre-covid I have had an all day one to one tutorial with him, and been to a number of workshops hosted by him aa part of Nottingham Rope. I think he is a really good guy and an exceptional rigger. He has his own YouTube channel ( I can't remember it's name). He has also appeared on The Rope Podcast, (which is the best podcast on rope that I have listened to so far). |
