Anyone else hear George on Clyde 1 this morning learning about pineapple patterns / motifs on holiday clothing being a swingers sign. It was news to me as well. Am I naive? Is it well known? Made up?
He did mention pampas grass but not ankle chains. |

"News to me. Any truth in it? George isn't exactly a trusted source for factual information. "
Yeah, I hadn't heard of it and George doesn't really do serious.
I was just curious and thought I'd consult the experts on here..... |

I was aware of the connection between pineapples and swingers. Do a forum search and loads of threads come up about it. |

Apparently if you go shopping in one of the big supermarkets and you put a pineapple on top of your shopping trolley everybody knows your swinger!!!
Who is brave enough to try this or has already done it? |

Does seem to be a thing just now about this. Think it came from ‘Merica. Personally, we love pineapple but won’t be sticking one in the window for the street to see. We’ll hope the pampas grass and hot tub do the trick

There do seem to be quite a lot of clothes with tropical fruits on them around just now, I'd say it's just a fashion thing as opposed to having any hidden meaning.
Am pretty sure the baby romper suit, covered in pineapple motifs, I looked at on the next site didn't have any link to swinging. |

we’ve always thought If the pineapple is upside down in your trolley that’s the sign |

Oh heck I never knew this.
I’m away to asda to tie a carrier bag to my trolley and then buy some pineapple and if they have any, some pampas grass plants. Whilst wearing an anklet and thumb ring! |

"I’ve just been to Aldi and bought a pineapple. Wasn’t aware of any funny looks."
We’re from Lanarkshire what constitutes a funny look ? I’m sure I’ve seen nudge nudge wink wink from folk with or without pineapples |

Think it was the rubber catsuit that did it |

It's a Tik Tom thing from America, seen someone saying its a universal sign you're a swinger if you place it upside down in your trolley? Can't be that universal if it's not known here?
I'm guessing that's where George Bowie got his research from! |

"What if you buy a pineapple innocently and it accidentally turns upside down in your shopping
As long as it’s not on pizza…
If it's upside down maybe the pineapple will fall off the pizza ? "
Better lol, but you would still get the flavour… I like salami, pepperoni, bacon, chicken… or just cheese |

I’m not sure I’d be convinced just by someone displaying a pineapple in her shopping trolley… however.. if she also had her melons on display that could be a give away |
