With the Tories having supposedly won so many seats (the UK map on the news was 90% blue atleast) it's clear that the labour voters that ran to join the party in their droves have probably left them for the Tories
So is labour worth saving? |

It's upto Labour to save itself.
To be in Goverment, they have to put forward credible policies, have a Leader that the voters like and trust, and then win the arguement with the electorate.
Labour will not win any GE just appealing to metropolitan London, Liverpool and Bristol. The real balance of power is in the Shires, a place that looks very blue at the moment. |

I think labour did have credible policies.
(Free education for all, better NHS, more police, tax loop holes closed).
As for a leader that voters like and trust.
I like jeremy corbyn and i trust that he would have done his best to make the country a better more fairer society but he never stood a chance because why would the establishment just allow somone like corbyn to come along and upset their gravey train.
Corbyn was going to close all these tax loop holes big corperations and friends of people in high places expolit and would cost them 130 billion a year which would have funded a lot of labours policies.
We had our chance to make a change for the good and fight back against establishment hence all the smear that corbyn got from the very beginning.
The only way labour will get in agaim is if they elect a tory lite leader who won't be threatenimg to upset their gravy train and then the establishment will see it as fair game again.
Throughout my life ive always had the mentality that it doesnt really matter who you vote for as who ever gets in, nothing really ever changes.
Jeremy corbyn for me was that change and we missed out on it, i cant see anyone of the same mind set coming along for decades and we will be lumbered with establishment friendly politicians turning a blind eye to all things like tax loop holes that are beneficial for the super rich with a depriment to the poor.
Keep your eye out for vastly increased use in the homeless and food banks the next year or so.
This is my opinion and i know its a minority opinion as the country has voted but its a opinion i will stand by regardless. |

They increased membership in 2017 partly because of lowered membership fees and partly on a promise of student loans being paid off. The UK isn't 90% blue, it's simply Labour's Brexit plan was painful and their national policy spending was thought up on mushrooms. |

the problem is anyone that comes along that threatens the super rich and big business, gets shredded by the mainly right wing press, Corbyn was slaughtered from day 1 and never stood a chance, even Miliband was labelled Red Ed, this election the tories were more effective with their online attacks than they were in 2017, but i think brexit was where labour suffered in England. |

The tories had a media plan in place for months and labour were outplayed thoroughly by them. The tories appeared unified while labour didnt know which side of the fence to sit on with Brexit and Corbyn just didnt put up enough of a fight. Having said that, after the attacks he has had to endure from the right wing media I would not be surprised if he had ptsd, as its the most vicious disrespectful campaigning I have ever seen in British politics. |

We can probably agree that the political outlook of Scotland is to the left of that in England.
So a radical offering from the left by Labour ought to go down well, you might think.
It didn't.
Labour came third, behind the Conservatives and SNP, taking just one seat with 18 % of the vote.
Contrast that with 2001, when Labour took 44 % of the vote and won 56 seats.
In the space of less than 20 years, it has gone from the dominant party to an irrelevance.
Why?
I'd suggest the Labour vote has migrated primarily to the SNP, because it is seen to be one the standing up for Scotland's interests.
What does this mean for England?
Well, we can probably agree England is to the right of Scotland in terms of political outlook.
That said, the policies offered by Labour were perceived by many to be popular.
So why did it tank?
A bit like Scotland, voters went for a party or a leader who was seen to be standing up for the national interest (be that England or UK).
Mr Corbyn's anti-Establishment credentials meant he was perceived to be on the side of those considered hostile to British interests.
If Labour appoints another anti-Establishment character, I can see them going the way they went in Scotland and becoming an irrelevance.

Because the papers can put out what they like during an election whereas the tv channels are more restricted but if you cant see that having the media attacking you relentlessly is going to fuck with your head then you haven’t learned anything in all your years |

If course, Scotland was a vote banker for Labour in those days. Not anymore, which means they have to find those 50 seats from elsewhere now. |

Tony Blair won a majority of seats in England on several occasions, so it is possible for Labour to win without those Scottish seats. |

PTSD.... lets look back a short 5 months when he was laughing at ousting TM, despite supporting the Brexit bill in principle. He put Johnson in by default, lost seats, supporters and moderate Torys in process and any voice in future agreements. |

Labour policies and costings were terrible
Labours top leadership are terrible "Corbyn, McDonnell and Abbott, all have painted themselves as anti UK/England over the years especially Corbyn & Abbott
Labours on the fence policy on Brexit was terrible when the country needed direct firm leadership especially when Corbyns been anti EU his entire political life
That's a massive contributing factor why Labour did the worst since 1935 and not made up lies by the establishment as the diehards are trying to paint it.
Look to what the most successful Labour leader of all time is saying, if labour want to get back to challenging for government then they need to listen to Blair, end of really.

The UK definitely needs a strong opposition to whoever is in government. Especially if the government holds a large majority.
If Labour can't do that, there either needs to be a break away group of more to the centre / left. Or somebody else but who? |

Ahh you make the mistake of thinking I am a fan - the truth is he just wasnt clear about his agenda and that pissed off both remainers and leavers, the working class believed he was a threat to security because of what they heard in the media and the budget sounded like something out of the 1970’s to many people. Just like Michael Foot JC is not a bad man, just not a leader of men and the internal anger in the labour party means he has to go along with the rest of the front bench. As for momentum they need to stick to what they are good at which is recruiting the young but they shouldn’t never ever be allowed anywhere near the front bench ever again. |

I wonder at some people and this rebel without a clue attitude. Its been interesting how some of the more abrasive posters on here (mofi) have started churning out even more right wing anti-immigrant rants since the tory win. It’s almost feels like they have been holding back until it was safe to reveal their true colours, although having said that some of them are just p***ks |

I wonder at some of the posters on here. They are a bit like the Labour Party . They are systemic losers. They lose the argument in every thread and then all they can do is post ( I’m their rarefied mind), a sarcastic bullying inference or just downright name calling. Lost count of the number of posts I’ve reported for personal abuse. Now I know what it was like before dozens of Jews were hounded out of the Labour Party by the bullies and haters. Ah well, the Labour Party is welcome to keep their anti semites. |
