I've just heard that when we leave Europe we will lose all our employment rights such as holiday pay and sickness pay working hours etc, due to them being European laws. But all the immigrants that stay, will still fall under these laws.
Most people who voted for Brexit voted due to the immigrants and now when we leave they will have the better deal.
Can't see this being fair.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
You mean *gasp* the people promoting Brexit may have lied??
I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!
I have no sympathy. Like all the farmers who voted to leave, not realising they would lose their CAP subsidies. |

That's not right. There is going to be what they are calling "the great repeal bill" where all European legislation will be transferred to UK law. Then they will pick it apart and get rid of what they don't want. Employment rights could well suffer depending on who is in power but this process will take years |

Scaremongering by the Remains I say.
Everything is being blamed on Brexit, but a lot of the problems being brought up, began way before Brexit! |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
We have added enhanced rights from Europe which need to be brought into UK law to remain. That is not the same as losing them all.
We will have to check the Great Repeal Bill to ensure we maintain these rights; sloppy drafting could lead to things we take for granted being lost.

"No, all those things are copied into British law.
Correct, called the great repeal bill. OP sounds like he's been fed a pack of lies from the Remainers. "
Actually the great repeal bill is called that because it repeals all EU legislation...
We will have to wait until the green paper is published to see if it writes all EU laws into English Law...
Personally I have my doubts that it will be a 1 page 160 word document that says all EU law becomes English Law. I expect it will be a massive document that will quietly drop a lot of EU regulations because they are inconvenient to the big business tory financial supporters.
Anyone like to bet I'm wrong? |

I bet that you are. This will be decades of work to unpick. Much of it is intimately linked to UK legislation as well.
It's very likely that the UK will have to update our laws with European legislation that we no longer have any say over at the same time that we're trying to change it in the UK.
Advise your children to go into constitutional law. Seriously. |

So you believe that an extremely right wing government (like the one we have now) would not think up the wheeze of writing a bill that says we repeal all laws that have their origin in the EU parliament or EU decree and then leave the courts to sort out the mess legislating case by case when the courts rule in ways they don't like? |

I'm saying this country is fucked up!
I'm saying that since the time of Thatcher there has been a deliberate campaign to slowly transfer wealth from the many to the elite few.
I am saying that your have your head shoved so far up the elites arse you refuse to see what is in front of you.
I am saying that you and your like are so greedy that you support those who are stealing everything you have or will have because they have conned you into thinking you too might get to join the club.
I am saying you support a government that cut benefits from the poorest to give tax cuts to the richest. I am saying that here are now probably millions of adults who are effectively homeless in this country, (the visible homeless on the streets, the invisible homeless sofa surfing, living in homeless shelters and halfway houses and of course all those adults still living at home because they cant find an affordable place to buy or rent).
I am SCREAMING "OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES AND LOOK AROUND YOU!" Stop being the mark for the con. Wake up to the reality of exactly how far away from any sort of social justice we have moved. Stop listening and reading right wing Tory propaganda and start looking at what they are doing. Tory Green steals £500 million from M&S pension fund and 10 years later agrees to give back £350 million and that's OK. Some poor sod is 5 mins late for a jobcentre appointment because their disabled child has a seizure and they are sanctioned meaning they need to get help from a food-bank or starve! How Dickensian do things have to get before we wake up to the realities of what this country has become and change it back to a better more just time? |

Willwill wants a far left commmunist state like Cuba or the old USSR was. Poverty was and still is rife in those countries. Socialism/communism only leads to poverty. |

How about the mid to late 70's?
Employment, near 100%, long term Unemployment virtually unknown.
Homelessness virtually unknown.
Price of a new build starter home in the area you worked, around double the average annual wage in that area. Price of a doer up, as little as half the annual wage.
Education, free with maintenance grants to all that need them.
Dental care, free.
Eye care, free.
Council housing waiting time, normally 3 to 6 months but with emergency housing available with less than 24 hours notice for families that found themselves suddenly homeless.
Admittedly, not so many had big shiny cars, and foreign travel was a lot less common.
But I for one think we have swapped substance for glitz. |

For all of your ranting and raving about the wealthy elite like the greedy bankers and the corrupt multinationals, Cameron and Osborne's Tory government, you still decided to side with all of them on your position that you would like the UK to be a full member of the EU (even though you say you voted Leave, yeah great strategy there, i want to Remain so I'll vote Leave, lol). |

Besides you being totally wrong when you describe the USSR and Cuba as communist, I have never said I want a Marxist State. In fact I always say I want a mixed economy.
By the way the USSR was a CAPITALIST COMMAND ECONOMY! Run by a single party dictatorship. Nothing communist about that at all. |

You forgot the strikes and the 3 day week that lead to power shortages and the lights going out. Yeah great time for everyone, lol. This utopia you describe was Before mass uncontrolled immigration from the EU was introduced that lead to wage suppression and housing shortages. Housing shortage and increased demand means higher house prices and increased rents. Over supply of Labour from the EU has meant jobs are harder to come by for native British workers. Mass immigration on this scale has been nothing but bad for this country. |

" i want to Remain so I'll vote Leave, lol). "
Again I never said that...
I know it is very subtle and therefore will be lost on most, but I will explain once more...
I am a Europhile, for all it's faults I believe it is our best hope for progress.
I want the EU to succeed and grow into a federated union. I do not see this happening with the UK being a member at the current time. I think we are a disruptive influence and a threat to the EU. I think that since 1979 rather than being in the tent and pissing out we have been in the tent and pissing all over the inside of the tent.
I think we are too enamoured with the USA and the 'special' relationship, which I think involves us bending over every time the yanks want to shaft us.
I think we need a few years out in the cold to wake up to the realities of the world.
So I reluctantly voted out, and so far from what I am seeing I think I made the right choice. Everyone seems to suddenly be showing their true colours and intent. From where I am standing much of it does not look pretty. |

No I did not, firstly the 3 day week was caused by the Oil Crisis when OPEC stopped selling oil and caused a world wide fuel shortage. As for the strikes, for the most part they were not as bad as people seem to remember, there were a couple of notable exceptions, namely the car industry where the likes of 'Red Len' just took the piss. But I would suggest that the good far outweighed the bad and if the cost of full employment and affordable homes for all are a few strikes, I'll live with that. |

You really don't live in the real world, do you?
The housing shortage is the fault of migrants, is it? Nothing to do with Governments failure to sanction building on brown field sites? Nothing to do with developers holing on to land parcels to artificially inflate prices? Nothing to do with foreign investors buying property as an investment and never actually living there and therefore causing a trickle down effect and forcing prices up? Nothing to do with Thatcher selling off social housing at knock down prices?
Obviously not. It's all the migrants fault.
How about work? How about all the jobs in agriculture that 'British' workers weren't interested in. All the jobs in food processing, cleaning and healthcare. Don't forget that all the nursing staff that the NHS NEED to recruit from the likes of the Philippines are migrants too. Most of these jobs are filled by migrants because British people are too lazy to get off their fat arses and do some actual work that involves physical effort rather than sitting behind a desk staring at a screen. |

He agrees with he principle of the EU. But he voted out because he would rather us be out of a club that we are disruptive in and don't fully participate in. The lesser of two evils, or to allow people to try the other option.

That's down to the welfare state being too generous. Many see life on the dole as a lifestyle choice. It shouldn't be like that, welfare should be reduced and work should always pay a lot more than benefits handouts. Sadly in some cases people on benefits are claiming more income per year than those on the lowest rungs of employment. |

"I've just heard that when we leave Europe we will lose all our employment rights such as holiday pay and sickness pay working hours etc, due to them being European laws. But all the immigrants that stay, will still fall under these laws.
Most people who voted for Brexit voted due to the immigrants and now when we leave they will have the better deal.
Can't see this being fair.
Not only that, the EU migrants are going to get free housing and a car allowance just for being here and they get fed a diet of English babies to eat."
I think it might be time for people to start building a future UK, rather than painting people who voted differently as idiots or racists.
That applies to various posters of both 'camps' .
A50 will be applied in a few weeks. Some other posts have mentioned making exit succeed for the 48% who voted Remain. Are there going to be some threads about constructive ideas to give an exit that works for everyone?

"it's funny when idiots who weren't even alive in the 70's show themselves to be utterly devoid of any knowledge of what was happening then .... they can't even read the facts from their online wikipedia sources and then manage to type them into the comments box on here accurately .... laughable"
100% of people posting on here were not alive during the Napoleonic wars but we know what happened. We do have such things as history books, lol. |

I lived through the whole of the 70s, and politics aside, it was a dark and depressing decade.
Weather was good though

"So when was this better time then ? Back to the days when most of us had fuck all? Back to hearding goats and sheep? Back to the so called good old days ?
I'm keen to know how you think things can be fixed ?
Mid to late 70s?
Would that be the three day week?
The endless strikes...unemptied bins for weeks with rats roaming the streets of London?. Unburied bodies? 29% inflation?
Those 1970s? |

You forgot the strikes and the 3 day week that lead to power shortages and the lights going out. Yeah great time for everyone, lol. This utopia you describe was Before mass uncontrolled immigration from the EU was introduced that lead to wage suppression and housing shortages. Housing shortage and increased demand means higher house prices and increased rents. Over supply of Labour from the EU has meant jobs are harder to come by for native British workers. Mass immigration on this scale has been nothing but bad for this country. "
More like UK policy decision to restrict housebuilding to increase debt load which benefits banks. Nothing to do with the EU. We messed that up ourselves. |

Irrespective of the whims, thoughts and attitudes about those who voted and what they think of the other side... this referendum and the ensuing Brexit will probably go down in history as the most divisive and reckless action ever undertaken since WW2.
The division is palpable and because this Govt is pursuing an agenda solely aligned to a 4% majority, it will only get worse, |

Hmmm there might be a palpable division in the politics forum. But at work, in the pub, at the shops everybody seems to be getting along happily just as before.
All I'm saying is why feed the division you dislike? Why not discuss ideas you would like to see? |

All the evidence to date points to a bright economic future. |

Nothing has happened yet other than a currency revaluation.
The sky hasn't fallen in but neither is there any evidence that anything will improve, so we just sit and twiddle our thumbs.
We know that everyone lied
We could have worked on the ideas that were important completely independently of the EU.
Health, social care, education... |

"extremely right wing government?
you mean the one that has an 18 point lead over Labour in the polls? What are you saying about this country?
I re-read "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists" recently and I found it quite scary. The rate at which the postwar struggle is being unravelled is alarming, and whilst we are by no means back to that peropd in time, it's the direction we are heading in.
Also; the fact that most of the right wing posters couldn't find anything to actually pick at in this post and just resorted to sneering is pretty amusing. |

Yes and that was after 6 years membership, maybe we shouldn't have joined the EEC in the first place then, which later morphed into the EU in 1993. It was the Tories that sorted that mess out not the EU |
