Tesla Sales Crash
Jump to: Newest in thread
Tesla sales and share price have both fallen sharply after Elon Musk's political involvement and pronouncements.
Has Elon done a Ratner and killed off his own company?
Would you still buy a Tesla ?
Will the winners be the cheap Chinese EVs ? |

Never liked their interior, so would never buy one. It's no longer heads and shoulder above other options in the EV market, so even if your ok with Musks shenanigans, it's not the go to electric car ot once was. |

With the tariffs the usa are imposing on autos the cheap will go out of the cheap Chinese EVs. |

17 - 38% tariffs in the EU on Chinese EV's, but that's okay because they are not Trump Tariffs |

I've had EV for a bit now and it beats ICE hands down for my needs and desires. Currently, based on what's out there and whats in store I'd never go back. But I don't claim that's relevant to all.
I would probably have had a Tesla 3 years ago, definitely not now, for various reasons too. That's not me thinking that they're "swasticars" or any political reasons either, that wouldn't even enter the thought for reasoning behind car selection for me. The Asian offerings are just infinitely better than European or American competition and it's not even close.
If anything, if you're buying American EV, Tesla especially, you're doing that more out of statement than reasoning. |

This doesn't make sense? How does an American import tax affect chinese made exports to anywhere other than the US |

Maybe just maybe the Chinese will lower their import tariffs on usa goods like ev cars making them cheaper or even at a similar price to home made Chinese EVs. |

Tesla is still selling a lot of cars.
By comparison (EV sales 2025):
Tesla 336k down 13%
Rivian 8k down 36%
GM 32k up 94%
The problem with judging EV sales by % is that generally the numbers are so low that it doesn’t take much of a shift to produce very dramatic % changes.

Pop along to the docks in Southampton and see how many Tesla's are being delivered it's staggering, they have purpose built multi storey car parks full of them and acres of land full of them.
I was working there not long ago and the huge ships that turn up with car deliveries, Tesla one ship they started driving them off around 7am constant stream of car's we left site at 4pm still streaming off.
By far more Tesla's than any other vehicle being stored. |

The new model Y is not shipping until the next quarter in their sales figures
It's one of the reasons for the massive drop in sales in the last quarter as people are waiting on the new model
I still wouldn't buy one because it's an ugly car and very outdated
Once sat in one and thought it was very uncomfortable and very badly made |

“ Tesla is facing a significant inventory issue, with reports indicating unsold vehicles, including Cybertrucks, piling up, potentially due to a combination of factors including a slowing EV market, competition, and negative sentiment surrounding Elon Musk.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Unsold Inventory:
Tesla has been struggling to sell vehicles, with reports suggesting a large amount of unsold inventory, including Cybertrucks, which are particularly difficult to sell. “

Elon is more concerned about tech and AI these days than the car business.. so the car business is basically collateral damage in his quest for ultimate power! … it’s also unfortunately the easiest way to get at Elon as bank loans and deals he uses his Tesla stock as actual collateral
Chinese EVs are already taxed to oblivion in the USA so their cars are not sold there!
The biggest problem Tesla have is that in Europe and Asia… they like “smaller” cars… and Tesla doesn’t have anything in those categories so far…. Kia/hyundai/renault/skoda/fiat have all done a good job of claiming those spaces |

Cybertrucks are there own issue as they are not street legal to drive in a lot of European countries including the UK… which he knew was probably likely as they had European patents for certain issues.. and then decided to ignore them |

Actually both would be true as the cost of labour in the US is a lot higher than it is in a lot of countries… unions have done a good to great job of protecting their members…. |

I'd wager that Asian, specifically BYD, will dominate the EV market in the UK in the next 5 years. I can't so confidently comment on other nations or globally but I would say the same there too. All the other 'big numbers' manufacturers will suffer in the coming years. |

One day China may go through a 'unionist revolution', I've said that they will since I began my career really, I can't see that the masses won't want to have more of a collective say in their present/future like what the European/north American industrialised countries had.
Tariffs are an government economic tool/stimulus that if used correctly or targeted specifically and tactfully (which isn't what I have seen Trumps tariffs do), can encourage national economic increase. See 20th century Japan.
It's nothing to do with making shit cheaper or more expensive, those are just effects. It's like the bank of England increasing interest rates to try and squeeze inflation down, that kind of stuff. |

I read somewhere that Elon Musk owns 12% of Tesla so other share holders will be feeling the drop in share price more then him,
Not a fan of them myself but would get one just to wind up the Musk haters |

A Tesla isn't even on my radar neither any electric vehicle other than a dodgem at the fair.
So not bothered by Elon and his milk floats.
Petrol vehicles are going to be around alot longer than people think so is oil so once the the so called environmentalists have awoken from their green slumber and got used to the idea they can't live without it and green renewables and wind stuff are just as polluting and more costly to make, install and maintain we might make some progress.
Watch Landman.

Quite a lot of what you said there isn't factually correct.
What I'd like you to expand more on though please is when you say "we can't live without it", I don't know what that quite means, do you have some context? |

Am saying, American made cars are more expensive for the American consumer than Chinese made cars are for the Chinese consumer. So even without the tariffs they are more expensive.
So unless they want to sell at large discounts to the Chinese market, they would be more expensive, even with no tariffs. |

I mean overall and like for like. I don't know how anyone can think any country in the developed western countries can match China in cost of large scale production.
In terms of Labour costs, energy costs and government support for manufacturing, the Chinese have a huge advantage. Also they are years ahead in terms of large scale modern production facilities. The west has neglected manufacturing for years and now is paying the price. |

China manufactures 30% of everything on the globe and has one billion people waiting for those jobs.
Uk as a share of GDP, manufacturing has fallen from 30% in 1970 to just over 16% in 1990 and less than 9% now. All those jobs globalised.

Tariffs was one of Trump's policies, so you can't say they voted just for the tariffs.
But the way it was sold to them was tariffs would be paid by the exporting country, when it is in fact paid by the importing company or individual.
A lot believed the misinformation. |
