It is both, it takes from both genres and combines them perfectly.

In fact the genre is actually horror while the setting is sci fi.

Yeah it's a Classic. It's a good film just to watch and it has lots of cinematography stuff for people who are into that as well.

Another good film is Bridge of Spies.
