How clever are you?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Would you say smart, average, below average, high intellect, complete moron, Mensa level?
And how do you think others perceive your intelligence?
I think I'm pretty smart but more street smarts and general life experiences rather than qualifications smart.
I think others think I'm a bit thick but that's probably due to a head injury I suffered which caused me to stammer sightly.

I'm quite clever - there's a lot I know but also a lot I don't. Academically I know I'm fairly gifted and I've never really found that side of things difficult (until now because I'm getting old). I've downplayed it (reading it back) because I don't want to come across as an arrogant twunt but it's probably too late for that.
My street smarts side of me is a work in progress. |

"Not half as clever as I think I am
No, you spend to much time thinking about whether to think about something "
I like to think about thinking. Well, I think I do. I'm going to have to go away and think about that... |

I have above average IQ and but one ex work colleague who was not the best in the world at spelling or writing did not have the greatest general knowledge store but show him once how to do something and that was him taught he could also work out solutions to problems construction wise, I would say intelligence is something more than having a good memory as I have met many people that are great when it comes to sums, talking, spelling etc but could not hammer a nail in to a piece of wood if their lives depended on it.

I know a bit about everything and not alot about that.
No seriously, as someone mentioned above. I've alot of knowledge in a specialist field.
I was average at school. Passed all my GCSE's. Passed all my college exams. I'm not thick but not particularly clever either. |

"Tested by Mensa when I was 19 years old. In 4% of population apparently.
Which 4% though?"
The top one. I was invited for a further test but I was happy with the results I got. |

I score highly in IQ tests and do very well in exams. I have a lot of qualifications and have never failed an exam in my life.
Doesn't mean I'm clever, just means I'm very good at taking exams and IQ tests. It's a skill like any other. |

I’m of average intelligence (4 A Levels) but I had enough street smarts & confidence to quit a well paid 9-5 soul destroying job & set up a sole trader business based on something I love with pretty much zip apart from my years of knowledge & experience.
Six years now including winding it down losing all my customer base & shifting it 300 miles to the other side of the UK & building a customer base back up again.
Intelligence is reading a workshop manual and knowing how something can be fixed.
Confidence is getting the tools out to fix it.

Good point, there are many well educated people who are useless at everyday situations!
I have a Masters degree I'd say I'm intelligent (can string a sentence together...) but not intellectual (can't talk about classical music or literature over dinner...) |

On paper I'm smart. But my life knowledge is terrible as well as my common sense. I'm not great at spelling. But put me in a test and I seem to do very well |

I'm pretty switched on with good common sense but not university educated, I like to read a lot about history too so have a fair bit of knowledge on certain periods. Doesn't matter how clever I am though my accent still makes me sound as dense as Osmium... |

On paper my maths is pretty dam good, although it would have to be to have a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering haha
Quiz nights I can suck at though lol and my common sense sometimes goes right out of the window |

Mind you not sure where our kids get it from but youngest is top at everything & eldest scored highest (96%) in a Welsh spelling test for the year above her they put her in because she’s pissing her year!
Her second language & we’ve been here just a year! She won’t speak it though, says it gives her a sore throat ??

I rate myself as a bit thick I’m Dyslexic ( words and numbers ) and I have the ubiquitous blonde moments aka dizzy at times ... what I lack in intelligence I make up for in creativity... |

I consider myself average in everything. There are always people more and less capable than me, cleverer and stupider, taller and shorter, more and less eloquent, faster and slower etc. etc. I'm in the middle.
My aim is to get better at things I think are important rather than assess where I am against other people.

If you had electrocuted yourself you would be dead. Think execute to kill. What you did is receive an electric shock. |

I do like a smart lady who can hold a conversation, also one who is smart enough to know how to tease.
Myself, I’m a problem solvers, been called intelligent, I don’t see it. Do have an MSc though. |

I would say I'm quite smart academically, I have to be to do my job, but good god, my common sense is useless. And as for practical stuff, I'm not great, except at sex, I can give a half decent go at that

My IQ is well into the MENSA range, but I consider it an utterly flawed measure of intelligence and think that people who join MENSA are at best ridiculous, at worst moronic, so there's that...... |

My problem is spelling am dyslexic in school I was told that I was thick. But in 84 I joined the army and somehow got one of the highest test scores that year. No spelling test. But years later didn't pass the UDR spelling test so couldn't join them even after 6 years and being a lcpl in the army at the time.
But that's life |

Academically I struggled at school, but once I chose the field that interested me I’ve flown through my career, I’m now 1 of around 200 in the country that do my particular job.
Intelligence is incredibly subjective, you could be awesome at maths but shocking at something else... as long you can hold a decent conversation I don’t really care if you’re a bin man or brain surgeon - |

I’m a bit of a smart arse and frequently get hassled by friends and family to go on various TV quiz shows, as I usually sit there and get a higher percentage of answers than most people on the show.
I wouldn’t say I’m actually very ‘intelligent ‘ I just like to know how and why things work, why things are named as such, who did what etc- instead of watching all those mind numbing reality shows, soaps or bloody football. If I can’t answer a question, I usually have to read up on it right away |

Used to think that I was around average intelligence, but my experience of other people over the years has led me to belive that perhaps I'm smarter than I thought.
Quiteo often had 'The weakest Link' and 'The chase' on and am staggered by the things some of the contestants don't know, that I would have consisered pretty basic knowledge |
