Do you miss the "old days" when you were a more regular forum poster (probably going back some 7 years or so now) and there was a different crowd.
Or are you happy "doing your thang" and are quite pleased that the forums now no longer take up such a part of your fab life? |

it was more like family back in the day... but as with most families i think there was a lot more tolerance back then as well...
but things change... not saying they are bad or good... but things do
its well known why i don't spend as much time on the forums as i did, i am not really a Fluff person and thats what i think the lounge has become, and anything that makes people think and use their brains work is quickly frowned upon and sectioned off......
the tolerance has gone and i think that is the biggest difference
it is what it is..... |

Thank you for your candid answer, we are of a similar mind in that regard. The forum has always been a little cliquey, that will always exist, it happens, but I agree that there once was more tolerance, but maybe thats nostalgia and rose-tinted specs eh?
Anyway, thanks for the answer Fabio, be well. |

As one of the few old guard on here, from when you were generally considered the voice of reason, you've hit the nail on the head.
People who lack the brains to be able to debate something they disagree with or to be able to properly understand a forum post because it makes their heads hurt, will respond instead with "TLDR" or instead a cry of outrage as they're confused about what it actually means so will either use being offended to mask their lack of understanding (surely silence would be a better option) or will scan read it for a dozen words or so that may be offensive to them when put together in any order THEN react with outrage.
There was more of a "family" feel to the forums back then, partly because there were fewer posters, but who posted more regularly, and partly down to the fact that you could have more open debates about things as a lot of those who get very offended very very easily about a lot of things hadn't joined Fab back then?
Most of the "Snowflake" generation either hadn't came of age or they wouldn't have even considered joining Fab as it wasn't mainstream enough so would probably appear too daunting?
The policing of the forums has changed to reflect this understandably as the site will have to take into account the changing face of it's many demographics of users. Complaints will nowadays be fired off left, right and cente from the multitude of the offended. I'm old school in that I've never reported anyone to a mod for offensive behaviour in the forums, I've always reasoned that what someone says can't hurt me and on the odd occasions that someone has said something to piss me off, I always believe that I'm quite big enough to fight my own battles and can either accept that they have a point.and concede that or if they don't defeat them with logic whereby if they refuse to listen to that, well it's them that looks silly as a result and not me.
Unfortunately while the reporting option should always be available (and was back then too) it probably gets far overused nowadays by those who can't argue their points at all because they lack the knowledge or know-how to do so, but being of the modern generation they are very very accomplished instead at being able to be offended and stamping their feet about it.
I think in years gone by there were obviously still major fallouts (and I remember a few!) but people in general were far far better at dealing with their problems online head on and either resolving the situation amongst themselves or agreeing to disagree, in most cases. Now instead if takes the form of fire off immediate complaint to beat the other to it, action taken to limit perceived damage, repeat several times till one of them leaves the forum feeling their free speech is infringed.
Just the changing face of a large section of society, which is natural.

I think brexit changed the forums. It meant that we ended up with a politics forum that is pretty awful and there's a lack of substance in the lounge as a result.
I too cannot do fluff but I like to think I can do tolerance. I miss the fact that you could disagree on the forums but then meet at a social and there was no hard feelings. But I think those divides and that intolerance are dar from unique to fab these days |

you make of it what you make of it.... I am a true believer that if i had stuck around in new york and not moved to london, I would be dead! not because i was a bad kid, but because i was a cocky kid and my mouth would have ended up getting me in trouble.... so to get out when i did was best for me

wouldnt it be something to do with the intention to before you get there, and then when you are on the loo you get "stage fright" so to speak....
for example, i just cant go when i am in hospital i couldn't go for the first 6 days when i was in for pneumonia.... |
