A few months ago a man rode up to me on his bike.
Leaned in and sniffed me three times before riding off.
These were three short sniffs (not sensual in any way)
It was really quite menacing.
Can anyone shed any light on it?
I wondered if it was meant to be animalistic like a dog sniffing to see if a bitch is in heat! |

Maybe that. My friend works in a prison and she said that sniffing is a thing there. I can't help but feel like it's some base sexual thing but I don't know what. |

Funnily enough I really had to stop myself sniffing the man I stood next to on the tram this morning! 2 guys got on, someone smelt lush and I couldn't figure out which one!!
As for stopping on a bicylcle , um, no idea x |

I really like the smell of Mr N. I'm not inclined to sniff strangers in the street though and I'm not sure how strong a smell a guy could get as he passed you by on a bike. I think there might be a sexual connotation to it or an intimidating thing.
You won't ever know his motivation though |

My brothers friend has a habit of sniffing seats after a woman gets up. It makes me feel sick. I guess some men might get off on smelling people, which is fine if consensual but your case does seem very random to suddenly ride up and sniff you? Did you have food? |

Minding my own business walking the the street replying to a work email.
I had no eye contact or anything with him until he slowed right down, stared at me and sniffed!
It was a busy street, in the day. |

No doubt it is. Our senses fuel our base instincts like any other animal. Thankfully, most of are more civilised and use language instead of sniffing one another for information. |

Really? Wow!
No food, no perfume, and it wasn't a long sniff (like you'd do if something smelled good) but short ones!
I think it was an intimidation thing!

Hmmm....I deduce one of three possibilities:
1. The chap was a werewolf (as in the movie Wolf starring Jack Nicolson)
2. It was a bizarre and wholly inappropriate ‘come on routine’ (which failed miserably)
Or
3. The guy was an arsehole of some not inconsiderable merit.
There are certainly some really odd buggers in society who’s social skills are marginally smaller than the diameter of an ants rectum.
I hope the idiot didn’t mar your day x

I'm not even sure what a self post thread is.
But it's a post, on a thread that I started myself so....!
I wasn't on here when it happened and something made it pop into my head so I thought I'd ask if anyone had any ideas.
