Planning for the future
Jump to: Newest in thread
How far into the future do you plan. Do you have your house in order incase anything happens? Do people know your future wishes.
Im abit obsessive about certain things and then really dont think about other important stuff. Have you planned and you thought things through carefully or are you a very much live today dont think about tomorrow kind of person |

Strange or what. Today has been spent sorting my will and life insurance policies. I have letters to everyone I care about thanking them for love friendship etc. letters for my daughter at every big and special time in her life just in case. Think it important to let people know what you want and take the pressure off people you leave behind. |

i dont think living in the moment means you dont care about tomorrow, for me it means an acceptance that you can nver know what lies around the corner, so detailed planning is a waste of energy.
i have career plans that cover the next couple of years, as that will be how long it takes to be qualified...but havnt planned further than tomorrow in terms of my day to day life.
Tomorrow is looking very good though |

I didnt say anything about not caring. Off cause we dont know what lies ahead thats why some do plan for the unexpected. Im not saying either is right or wrong.
IF i was to drop dead tomorrow or become seriously ill everything is in place |

shit dude, your only young and thats some heavy planning going on there!
reminds me of my grandad in a round a bout way, the whole family (which is massive by the way!) always goes to my nans for sunday lunch (mmmm roast diamond ) and my grandad took it upon himself to announce as everyone was eating, that we shouldnt worry about his or nans funeral as he had been out the day before and arranged everything, from the plot to the coffins, all paid for, even chose the finest materials for inside for my nan, seriously morbid but strangley heart moving at the same time! |

Yes I am a research and planning type of person.
I saved for both boys to buy cars when they were old enough, still saving for the youngest. Ill have to start wedding funds at some point no doubt.
I have a Will so my property and assets are taken care of in the event of my death.
Its a little early yet but I will plan my own funeral and pay for it so that my kids don't have too much to think about. |

I keep meaning to write a will, not that I have much, more to eliminate my family as next of kin and to ensure that I am not taken back to Brum for the funeral, but for some reason I never seem to get round to it. My close friends all know my wishes but I realise it's all a bit pointless without a will... |

I am trying to reduce my mortgage costs, it's the most important thing right now. I'm getting close to 50 and I really don't want a mortgage for much longer just in case anything happens to my job.
Apart from that the only thing I have in place is that if I die, my best mate has to remove my pc so that my mother never sees it! |

I go to Afghanistan in a few months so starting to think about all that. Letters to the people that matter, a will, extra life insurance and making sure all my docs are together so if anything does happen it's all there organised for people to sort. |

before my mum got seriously ill and passed away the answer would have been no...
now.. just because i see what happens I am more up to date with things....
it the things that you don't think about rather than just possesions... such as funeral expenses and the what not.. last thing i would ever want is for some to incurr expenses in that want...
so proud that mum basically didn't leave any stone unturned.. in that we knew exactly what would happen |

That was exactly what my mum did, she chose and paid for everything. It may sound a little morbid sitting in a funeral directors choosing coffins, shrouds etc, but its far easier doing that when you don't have the stress of a bereavement. I am grateful that I didn't have to think about hymns or anything like that. I will certainly do that myself.
I would never do a home made Will either, they are not worth the money you pay, even though its cheaper than a solicitor. If it was ever contested then the cost of contentious probate will wipe away a good chunk of assets. Easier to pay out now and be covered by the Law Society |

We have lots of things planned out for the next year or so but not in detail. When it gets to a month in the future then there is more detail for what we are doing and when Kev is home or away no a job. I think you need to have some idea long term though or things can get all mixed up time scale wise. |
