Pilot was in 1979 as far as I recall but it started fully in 1981. It didn't pull in ratings & was deemed to be pulled after Series 1, but TV Studio believed in it, and it soon won awards.
It was forerunner to other Police themed shows in following years. |

Mmmm I remember Hill St Blues .... it ran for ages with the gorgeous Lawyer Joyce Davenport (Veronica Hamel), who could forget those gorgeous legs!!
- like you said, mainly an 80s series though.

I use to like that programme especially the scene where a ufo would have come down into a waterbody something like a large hidden pond in a woodland and when the aliens decided to take off from the pond a combination of the spacecraft spinning and lights ? around it and gerry andersons background music to that or similar scenes thou not always underwater was quite eery  but effective to see and listen to has a kid It made me take note of other life possibly out in the solar system .. |
