This question occcured to me after seeing the endless arguments in the politics bit of the forum.
Would any of you avoid fucking somebody if you disagreed with their political views?
Or would the lure of cock or pussy overcome that barrier?

Depends on their views and how extreme they are. The answer is probably not likely that I would. |

If they were really right wing it would turn me off, not going to lie. It depends what the political views are though however. Financial is debatable but if someone had vastly different views to me when it came to things like LGBT+ rights, immigrants/refugees,race issues, human rights (and who is deserving of them), etc then I would struggle to be friends with them, nevermind sleep with them. |

So I try not too get too engrossed in politics when I'm chatting, but if I felt someone was hugely out of sync with my way of thinking...not politics per se...I wouldn't arrange anything as I prefer to meet like minded people,
so if I thought it was an argument waiting to happen I would probably avoid.

It’s possible. I tend to click with people who have similar views and opinions to me. It just happens I suppose. Would I ask someone who they vote for when I met them? No I wouldn’t, it would be irrelevant to me. |

I did wonder how this would even come up. I wouldn’t ask either. I really wouldn’t care. I don’t really understand politics enough to care tbh. Is that bad? |

Same. It would all depend on how extreme their views are.
Itd not something I'd instantly ask somebody, but at the same time I'm one of those thst are not looking for random and need a connection and have a friend vibe with who I sleep with, so it would change things when it would eventually come up. |

Sometimes bigots reveal themselves pretty quickly. I've had people make negative comments about Romanians, people on benefits or gay people, etc over a drink. It put me off. |

I’ve been seeing N&H since June and I have no idea of his political views. I could probably guess but it’s never come up. Better things to talk about! I think we discussed Brexit once so I know which way he went with that but that’s all! |

Oh god yeah, that type of attitude would instantly put me off, but I wouldn’t necessarily connect that with any political stance - they’d just be in the category of “bit of a knob”. |

Exactly the same with me and my OH and we’ve been together over 4 years
I know his Brexit stance but not much else because politics just isn’t something we discuss (I think I’m deliberately ignorant to it all tbh...) |

Also some things don’t make people bigots! I have a few strong opinions on the benefit system that some would construe as negative. That doesn’t make someone a bigot. I agree on the other 2 points though. |

I was with my wife for almost 30 years and neither of us knew how the other voted, as we never discussed it. I've never discussed this with my subsequent GFs, either. |

I had an ex on here (not that ex, another ex)(can't believe I just said that ) who used to drive me nuts in a bad way, not because her views were different, but more because she was so committed to anything anyone ever said on that side of the spectrum, yet anything from the other side was just made up lies, fake news and spin.... she was so angry all the time at the perceived lack of justice for what she saw as 'her lot'. I was somewhere in the middle at the time but I just couldn't listen to her talking shite, it wasn't sexy at all.... |

It did with John major and Edwina curry, not to mention John prescot and his sordid shenanigans in his office.

I practically jumped someone from here just because I was so turned on by his passion when he started talking politics over a drink !
To answer the OP I wouldn't judge on party politics (ok, I would...I'd never knowingly fuck a Tory) but I agree with Lacey, it's obvious fairly quickly if you're on completely different wavelengths and it'd be a turn off.

Haha well each to their own - I find conversations about correct spelling and grammar sexy. (Joke... well, maybe I do a bit).
I think for me it’s pure lack of knowledge/ interest. I wouldn’t necessarily be able to distinguish a Tory from a supporter of any other political party just from a general discussion (unless they explicitly said so). I’d obviously pick up straight away if we weren’t on the same wavelength or if they had bigoted attitudes etc, but I wouldn’t necessarily align that with any political position or think about it in that way, if that makes any sense... |

But surely racism and homophobia aren’t exclusively political issues? If someone was racist and homophobic on a date, my first thought would be what an awful personality they have; not that their political views are questionable. But as others have said that’s probably because I have little interest in politics compared to others. |

"I had an ex on here (not that ex, another ex)(can't believe I just said that ) who used to drive me nuts in a bad way, not because her views were different, but more because she was so committed to anything anyone ever said on that side of the spectrum, yet anything from the other side was just made up lies, fake news and spin.... she was so angry all the time at the perceived lack of justice for what she saw as 'her lot'. I was somewhere in the middle at the time but I just couldn't listen to her talking shite, it wasn't sexy at all....
Politics is definitely not sexy!
Agreed, it's like ppl who tell you how much they earn or how big their mortgage is on a first date.....
Or what car they drive in a message. Instant delete!
My girl chose mine, it's a total twatmobile and nothing to brag about but I kinda like it for that very reason..... I love it when they have the what car do you drive threads in here an ppl get creative...
My comment from earlier still stands - pretentious folk will never tell you they're pretentious, but they'll tell you all manner of other boring virtue promoting nonsense about "their" politics...."
Yeah the what car do you drive threads. |

"Politics is definitely not sexy!
Makes sense to me |

"It’s possible.
Sometimes bigots reveal themselves pretty quickly. I've had people make negative comments about Romanians, people on benefits or gay people, etc over a drink. It put me off.
That’s not a political thing though. Some people are just idiots.
Those things are political views.
How?"
Views about the rights of people on benefits and immigrants are political views. A person who opposes gay people would oppose political issues such as same sex marriage and whether gay people couples had the same rights as heterosexual couples as well. |

"There are hard limits. Racists, homophobes and the like can fuck right off. I don't want to be around people like that.
Other views a lot would come down to how they express them rather than the point itself.
But surely racism and homophobia aren’t exclusively political issues? If someone was racist and homophobic on a date, my first thought would be what an awful personality they have; not that their political views are questionable. But as others have said that’s probably because I have little interest in politics compared to others. "
Of course they are political issues. They might not be a party political issue and they may cross in to social issues but they are definitely political |

I said not *exclusively* political. In other words, I don’t personally associate them with politics. I associate them with a person’s personality. |

"If they were really right wing it would turn me off, not going to lie. It depends what the political views are though however. Financial is debatable but if someone had vastly different views to me when it came to things like LGBT+ rights, immigrants/refugees,race issues, human rights (and who is deserving of them), etc then I would struggle to be friends with them, nevermind sleep with them. Or was it left wing, I'm not sure. Anyway it wouldn't bother me. It's not like we talk about brexit when we are having sex.

Would depend exactly what they said, to that point I agree, A slight homophobic comment.
However, it's rare such comments are not aligned with their views that overlap with human rights of those they make such negative comments about. Human rights are most definitely political. |

If a party proposed making same sex marriage illegal again or even homosexuality. They may vote for them and that is worrying. Fortunately same sex marriage has been legalised but some parties had vastly more MPs who opposed it than others and policies are always open to change over time. Political views aren't necessarily about aligning with a particular political party though. |

Exaclty. Someone could align with most of my political views and vote for the same party as me but if we differed on a political issue that was very, very important to me morally then it would likely be an issue for me. |

So really, the question could just have easily have been - “would you avoid sleeping with someone who has different moral values to you?”. They are one and the same, essentially, as a person’s political views... if I’m understanding the point. |

I did wonder how this would even come up. I wouldn’t ask either. I really wouldn’t care. I don’t really understand politics enough to care tbh. Is that bad?
Sometimes bigots reveal themselves pretty quickly. I've had people make negative comments about Romanians, people on benefits or gay people, etc over a drink. It put me off.
That’s not a political thing though. Some people are just idiots.
Those things are political views.
How?
Views about the rights of people on benefits and immigrants are political views. A person who opposes gay people would oppose political issues such as same sex marriage and whether gay people couples had the same rights as heterosexual couples as well.
No they’re not. I disagree.
How are they not?
So someone makes a negative comment about gay people over a drink. That’s a political issue?? That’s a personal issue. Nothing to do
With politics.
This is exactly what I was saying
Would depend exactly what they said, to that point I agree, A slight homophobic comment.
However, it's rare such comments are not aligned with their views that overlap with human rights of those they make such negative comments about. Human rights are most definitely political.
So which particular way would that person vote then who would be likely to say that? Because i think that’s what we’re really getting at here don’t you?
Was the question "would you be turned of by a Conservative or labour supporter?"? Because politics are so much more about than just 2 parties that are just as fucked up as each other.
Which party is not hebissue, it is where you stand on each individual specific of politics.
For me, yes. Though moral values more often than not do align with political values. Different people will have varied values for different parts of human rights, they may be homophobic values but pro immigration. If that makes sense. |

Some political views are more moral issues than others. The ones that are moral issues is the distinction I and a few others have made as go whether it would affect if we slept with someone or not . |

I guess it makes sense, yeah. My point was simply that, when politics isn’t something that’s on your radar in life in general, you don’t conceptualise those types of attitudes as ‘political” when they come up in general conversation. For me, the issues that have been mentioned are essentially moral value issues. And they of course would 100% determine whether I wanted to spend my time with someone. It’s probably a matter of semantics really... |

That makes sense. Such as your comment about not knowing your partners political views. You likely know where he stands on a lot of issues but just don't associate any of it with politics which is fair enough. Everyone has political views but it is a choice whether you are actively political or not . |

Wow this thread got busy. The gist of it seems to be that most people would fuck another regardless of political view. As long as they're not extreme or bigoted. And the majority wouldn't talk or think politics at all when it comes to a play partner.
But what if they had an intimate tattoo of Johnson or Corbyn? How would you avoid talking about it then? |
