Manchester (he/him) |
I'm a runner, although an injured one at the moment. I'm hopeful of a rehab in time for the spring cycle of marathons...
There are quite a few runners knocking around, I know that Bike monkey has recently completed the Amsterdam marathon and suited and booted has a place for London next year...

Hi OP
we both run a lot, and I (her) could talk a glass eye to sleep on the subject absolutely love everything about running.
We both have events this weekend, my better half has an ultra and I have a 10 mile event. Already thinking of what my next event could be.
Thanks for the thread, made my day! |

I dislike running, but I'm working on it to fundraise for a charity dear to my heart, and to close the psychological door on a serious lower limb injury I suffered. If I can jog a 10k, I think I can say I've recovered. |

I love running, only up to half Marathon at the moment. Well I say that I'm not allowed to run atm as I wait for results of my MRI on my knee.
Depressed about that and hit fast food places and.put the weight back on.
Need to get back out there and can't wait to do so |

I've only done 1 marathon - to tick it off my list. Not sure I want to do another one. I've never done a half before though and working on getting my time per mile down...
I reckon if you want to do a full marathon, just sign up to one xx N |

Ahh, see, I’m not daft / adventurous enough to run up / down anything with that sort of gradient |

After years of little exercise i got back into running in middle age. Never any great distances, but really enjoyed getting out and getting fit. Sadly let it all lapse several years ago when started feeling wear and tear on hips and knees. Hoping that sometime I'll find an alternative and get my energy levels back up, but first got to conquer depression that's been gripping me for a time (family and personal stuff, unrelated to stopping the running). |

A lot of people don’t like GNR as it’s too congested and you end up bumping along the course, 100’s of others out there which would be as good x |

Yeah it was pretty busy but I found I was able to run a bit more freely from about the 5-6 mile point, I found the first part more congested tbh. Amazing experience though, the atmosphere was awesome |

I usually do the Pier to Pier in May (7 miles along the coast from South Shields to Sunderland). Absolutely beautiful views of the coastline while you’re running along the cliffs. Only downside is it starts on and ends on beaches and I’m not a great fan of any off road running really. But I do love the views |

Inconsistent runner here all started with the a thread on here.
Always seem to be hovering around the 5-10k mark can't seem to break through it. I really think a running buddy would help greatly to encourage and push each other to do better. |

Yes Amsterdam was 2 weeks ago and I loved it. Also done Manchester this year and possibly doing Portsmouth again at Christmas.
I run everything from 5km to marathon and doing my first ultra next summer. My girlfriend's also a runner and I also help at a lot of local events, it's a big part of my life |

St Illtyds must have been a tough one - I’ll look out for that as I didn’t know there was an organised event on it. I know bits and pieces of the path as it crosses many places I have run and walked over the years and it is most definitely not the best maintained (or signed) LDP around.

I have been getting help thank you. Was improving through the summer, but had a bit of a relapse through a chest infection and the worsening weather. Hoping that spring will bring me new energy. Xx |

Chester half is my "must do" event each year. I always take part in the Sunday morning muster training runs with them too
Otherwise it's a couple of 10ks through the year.
But I'm mainly trail running now, rather than on road |

Yeah most people respond with an Ouch or similar comment. Or laughter. Or a too the point 'what the fuck were you thinking'
I'm looking forward to it, being a set time rather than point to point and having a base camp were the thing's that appealed along with the utter ridiculousness of it! The aim is 6 summits which will be 50 miles or thereabouts. |

It depends on what you class as good, do you like lots of crowds, on road off road? Flat or hilly and obvs location x |

Injury (it bands) then I just couldn’t get back into it. I’ve tried doing a few 5K loops but I need to find my mojo again. I might try and do a trail. For some reason I enjoy training and road running much more in cold conditions as opposed to the summer. |

Chester
Recognised as one of the best and you don't get the numbers of the Cardiff or London or Great North (half)
Wonderfully organised and a superb start and finish in the historic town
Pretty much a flat course and well supported by the crowds and live music out and about |

Love running, well plodding might be a better description. Tried to get Jess involved but never interested. Do a mixture of flat runs and obstacle/rat race type runs. Not tried an ultra yet but have been thinking about it. |

Managed a few of 10kms in the summer as part of my pre-season, now that the rugby season has started I'm finding it hard to get a day when the legs are feeling good enough to run again!!
Probably be next summer before I can run "properly" again... |

Once you're out in the weather, you quickly forget about it....
It's just the actual getting out bit
Being a trail runner and living in Wales I'm used to a bit of rain

Going out for a run through the woods later.
Takes longer for the stiffness to go these days, as I get older, normally takes a couple of miles jogging to get loosened up.
Mostly aim to do half marathons now.
Have to say there are some very fast older runners out there, some great times for people over 60s and 70s.

Yeah I'm well happy especially having done very little on the 3 weeks since Amsterdam marathon I really wasnt sure what to expect!
I did Bournemouth marathon in 2016 against medical advice and this year has been the first time I've got close to the times I was running before then, it's taken a long time to get back! |
