Clearly if people are saying it the general consensus must be that real men play rugby.
With the rugby World Cup on also the term is going to get flung about more the usual.
And yes a lot of women on here including myself are aware of this and like a good ogle at the players |

"Real men are adults who identify as men.
Male ballet dancers are hot. Just saying.
Male gymnasts oh yes xxxxxxx
Calisthenics is or can be brutal"
If I tried to do it properly I would probably shatter |

"I truly hate it when I hear people say ‘real men play rugby’ !!! "
I can’t say it’s a phrase I hear often, maybe you’re mixing in the wrong circles. Do you drink at the local rugby club by any chance?

"Iv heard a great number of bothe men and women say it
It's just idiotic banter to poke fun at football "
There was a genuine quote ... don't know the origin ... that said ...
"Rugby is a thugs game played by gentlemen, football it's a gentleman's game played by thugs" |

"What about us women who play rugby? "
Total respect is due. I enjoy watching the women's game every bit as much as the men. The ladies are really committed. Most impressive. |

"I absolutely utterly despise rugby. I have nothing but utter hatred for it.
I would not consider that having any impact on whether I can be classed as a "real man" or not. "
Why do you hate it so much? |

There are some very strong words used to describe a mere sport in this thread. Bad experiences during pe at school perhaps?
I still play at a decent level, I've never heard anyone describe themselves as a 'real man' for playing it and I suspect if they did the piss would be ripped out of them.
These conversations are usually brought up when comparing football and rugby, there are so many differences it's usually pointless to compare.
For me, the toughest sport is grand for cycling, those men and women are hard as nails. |

Pansies??? "
Wilting violets perhaps. Pansy has a pejorative meaning.

If any specific sport or activity is what defines me as a real man, then I'm happy to not be one.
99% of the time the term is used when somebody is getting defensive about a discussion/argument (or they are just the type of mindless twat that feels the need to try and put others down) |

For me a 'real' man takes care of his business. Doesn't pass the buck. Sticks around and supports the family if the shit hits the fan. Is respectful, works with you not against you. Is not selfish. Has an open mind and has nothing to prove |
