Not so sure any have scared me as such.
Stephen King's IT was a great read but I wouldn't say it made me quickly run up the stairs at night etc.
Having said that, I don't read as much as I would like. |

I’ve read soooo many horror books, and there is one that absolutely stands out. ‘House Of Leaves’ by Mark Z Danielewski. I’ve managed to convince a few others to read it, and everyone has been freaked out by it. |

I used to read a lot of horror stories but none have scared me so much as a an autobiography by Dave Peltzer and his books , a child called it series. The things one human can do to another is heartbreaking x |

"I love Stephen King
Read It, when I was 16
I had nightmares for weeks, took my ages, the longest time ever to finish a book "
I was talking to my friend the other day an saying exactly this. The library scene and when IT is disguised as a tramp... I bloody hate HATE clowns. |

I read these whilst working in child protection. I think that job de-sensitised me as nothing surprises me any more

"The Shining.....better than the film. Truly creepy and deserving of the "Joey Tribbiani put the book in the freezer" award"
I've read several Stephen King books, and have always thought he has a very fluid, conversational style of writing.
But The Shining is different - each time I've read it, I've struggled a bit to get the middle, as though he wasn't quite on form, but then it suddenly takes off and it's a real page turner.
Am I alone in that?
And the book is definitely better than the film |

"Amityville Horror by Jay Anson. Supposedly a true story but that's been disputed. I remember the hair on my head standing up several times reading it. Never had that with any other book since."
Probably not true considering it's about demons and spirits. |

Frankenstein is probably the most original and truly a great book.
Ghost Story by Peter Straub might be the best more modern horror story I can think of but the most appalling and frightening one is probably Pet Semetary by Stephen King. It didn’t bother me when I read it originally - and the actual horror and resurrection side still don’t - but read it again recently after becoming a parent and the death of the little boy, Gage, is just horrific. It’s amazing in one sense but mostly it’s just a stomach churning scenario for any parent to think about. |

"For me its the rats triology"
I liked rats and domain of that series
"The Fog.
Any James Herbert book, i found his books scarier than Stephen King’s."
I have to agree with the above comment stephen kings stays on character too long
"James herbert: the ghosts of sleath "
Havent read that one might take a look at it.
Another one is the dark by james herbert |
