"Why is pampas grass the symbol for swinging? Where did this originate from?" If you grew it from seed, could be a while before you got a meet.
But no idea why, to answer your question. |

I’m sure I read somewhere that the humble pineapple is a swinger symbol. You know like having a pineapple door knocker or displaying on in your window. So far I’ve not been able to test the theory |

I grew up near Rosyth when the Royal Navy had a big presence and a lot of married quarters.
Your post reminds me of a story about Tide washing powder.
When Mr was home from the sea, Mrs would place the Tide in the window so her fancy man could see the "tide was in" and her man was home.

"Before the internet, how did swingers contact each other?
"
Contact magazines primarily.
A bit of a long winded way to do it, but if you put the effort in and made contact, it was almost always genuine |

I didn't swing then, but that was what other swingers have told me. |

"Ostensibly, the presence of white landscaping rocks and pink or purple decorations in a front garden are also indicative that the property is owned by swingers.
Be this true? "
I can honestly say I have never seen a house or garden as you describe.....yet |

I have a pineapple cocktail dispenser and I used it at a party full of swingers but all girls and no swinging went on |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
When humans settled into an agrarian economy, stopped roaming and a patriarchal, monogamous society was formed they became a little bored. The alleviate that boredom they cultivated gardens for beauty.
One such gardener was also bored with monogamy. S/he discreetly put it about a bit. This gardener had made a feature of Pampas Grass and their playmates would find seeds attached to their loose clothing and footwear as they left the gardener's abode. So spread the Pampas Grass and identified the people swinging between homes and beds.
Every generation since has passed down the legend but, as with all legends, the origin was lost and the only kernel remaining is that Pampas Grass is the sign of sexual liberation within the home of those displaying it.

"I was always told it was the hot tub in the back and a swinging chair in the front garden!
My swinging seat is in the back garden. Discreet hey
No hot tub!

On army bases, displaying a box of OMO washing powder in the window of a married quarter signalled 'old man out' |

That had stopped by the time I served.
Or I just didn't notice as too busy getting d*unk and finding the lumpy jumpers |
