My heart is breaking somewhat as I type.
As some of you may know my 4 legged rock has been unwell recently.
She left the house with energy. She didn't make a fuss about getting into the car.
She said hello to 3 other dogs in the vets.
I did all I could for her, I put on her on the table, I held her.
The vet couldn't find a vein in her left leg, which apparently is a sign her heart wasn't working as well, so we swapped sides and he went to the right leg. He put a strap on her leg to get the vein to show itself.
Not once did she struggle, moan or make a fuss, she simply had her head nuzzled into my chest while I showered her with kisses and love. 2 sighs and she was gone peacefully in my arms.
I carried my girl out with heartbreak yet pride. She had kept me alive during my darkest days. Truth was, I didn't trust anyone to love her as much as me and that kept me going when all I wanted to do was end my life.
Thank you to everyone who's messaged with their best wishes and kind words.
To my darling girl, I love you and thank you for spending your life in mine.

Our sincerest sympathies, we know how much Peg meant to you and we know exactly what you’re going through at the moment. Take consolation in the fact that you have made the greatest sacrifice for her by making the hardest and bravest decision for her and that she is now free of pain and resting peacefully. |

Big hugs to you from both of us. We lost our hound last month and it can an emotional time to lose, what is essentially, a member of the family.

So sad and heartbreaking. I’ve a 14 year old Bearded Collie - love him to bits but he’s getting on and slowing down. Just a fleeting thought of what’s to come upsets me. Reminds me of this poem that I have posted before:-
Brothers and sisters
be aware
Never open your heart
for a dog to tear

I'm so sorry for your loss. I did exactly the same thing last week with my beautiful dog and my heart is breaking, I can't stop crying, I feel totally lost and don't know what to do with myself.

So sorry to read this, it made me cry. I’m still missing my gorgeous furry friend - although it was over 5 years ago that I did the same thing as you.
You know you did the right thing, but it’s such a hard decision to make.
Sending big hugs xxxx |

Awww bless you. I’m so sorry. I know how those little furries take up so much of our hearts. I have a dog too and she’s like my baby and I just can’t think about if that time comes. Sending love and big hugs to you x |

I've discovered today that it's not a good idea to have bedding or household objects the same colour as your pets.
I've gasped at my black n white butterfly bedspread and my black hairbrush on a white cushion thinking both were her.
It's the weirdest thing. Your eyes trick you for a second.
Thank you all so so much. As much as it rips you to shreds it's certainly touched me that you could tell how much she meant to me even over a public forum.
A few of you have met her and you're so right, she has the sweetest character and good nature. I'm saying has, because she's not gone, she'll still be with me for a while yet for as long as I remember her love.
B deserves a mention.
He has been amazing through this whole thing (not that it's over yet, sorry baby this may take a while to heal, but know I'll do my best by you as I've done my best by her)

This just made me cry. So sorry to hear your loss. It's little comfort but be proud of yourself for giving her the best life and a dignified end. Allow yourself to grieve, she will always carry a place in your heart xx |

Wonderfully put darling. I know first hand how much Peg meant to you, I found her a lovely affectionate kind-hearted woofer and that's even without how much she steadied your life? And if without her you wouldn't be here then I owe her more than she'd ever have known...

It's the most difficult thing to do, but you did the right thing for her, even though it's broken you. I've had to do the same and it broke my heart, but she couldn't have asked for more love, she is a lucky pup x |

So sorry to hear this. It's the hardest decision you ever have to make. I had to put my girl to sleep in February as she was in so much pain. You have done what's best. Remember the good times |
