Somewhere In The Ether…

Also, Christopher Nolan’s, Inception.

I love complex plots and twists and turns in my movies but this one merely came across as pretentious at best to me and furthermore, I personally much preferred the very same ideas that were laid out in 1984’s, Dreamscape starring Dennis Quade.

CGI can be bearable, sometimes stunning when it is implemented correctly (some of the visuals in Prometheus, Alien prequel, are marvelous in my opinion) The problem is that prequels and such are often devoid of story and passion.

CGI ruins most films these days in mine.

It should be a subtle enhancement to the story, but now they seem to spend millions on the most outrageous bullshit sequences while neglecting the basics of storyline, script and good filmcraft.

One of the reasons i mainly inhabit the world cinema or small budget indie film zones- they don't have the cash hollywood does, so the basics are frequently given the attention they deserve as they can't band aid a shitty script or story with a 5 minute CGI explosion fight fest

* Any of the Star Wars - love movies, love Sci-fi, own loads, perfect age when was released and saw them in the cinema, so I should be a fanboy and its just 'ok' and I've never owned any of them.

* Donna Darko - well made but pretentious sh*t

* No country for old men - filmmakers who can't be arsed finishing off their film!! The last 10mins WT absolute F

"Mamafuckingmia

Tripe"

Don't think I've seen "Tripe". Is it sort of a Lancashire answer to "Chocolat"?

"When mysterious Vinnie and his child arrive in a tranquil Northern England town in the winter of 1959, no one could have imagined the impact that he and his spirited son would have on the community stubbornly rooted in tradition. Within days, he opens an unusual meat products shop, across the square from the church. His ability to perceive his customers' desires and satisfy them with just the right bit of offal, coaxes the villagers to abandon themselves to temptation -- just as Lent begins."

Somewhere In The Ether…

Apocalypse Now.

Yes, it’s apparently tantamount to sacrilege to offer any form of critique of Coppola’s ‘masterpiece’ and whilst it’s certainly not a bad film by any stretch of the imagination (in fact I can’t fault it technically), I personally found it to be hugely overblown and dare I say it, somewhat tedious.

In fact, I far preferred Antonio Margheriti’s, The Last Hunter which was copied - um, I mean inspired by it.
