Perception vs reality

Following on from a thought that I had on my previous thread, I thought I'd give this a go.

Often how we see ourselves is very different from how others do; whether it be a very negative view of ourselves or in some cases a case of over inflated ego.

So in terms of redressing that balance I thought it might be good to see how others see us.

The way this works; post how you see yourself, honestly and then others can reply to you on the thread constructively.

No bitching or nastiness please, but also no saccharine compliments and currying favour, this only works if everyone is respectful and honest.

Please also remember folks that it's personal opinions only.

The way I present here, I'd say I'm smart, reasonably sure of myself, and don't take shit. Friendly when I have the bandwidth or don't feel it'll be abused/ misconstrued. I hint at other sides to me but don't go into it openly.

I'm also acutely aware that this is a persona. Based on the real me, though.

Hmmm ok...

Physically I'm fat and fairly plain and ordinary. I don't get attention in the real world. I get it here because I take an alright selfie and have nice lips.

Personality wise I genuinely think I'm lovely. I have a lot of self doubt and insecurities but I'm also fairly quick witted, articulate and above all great company. I'm a likeable delight

I see smart, determined, opinionated, stubborn with a very individualistic style and outlook on life. Perhaps a little unsure of your own abilities but your confidence is growing since the weightlifting and pm threads started.

That's because you don't know me in real life, you just see the online image.

I try to be more light hearted and engaging online as opposed to real life. I'm interacting with a group of people so being shy and reserved doesn't really work.

I think you have a brilliant sense of dry humour. Your posts often make smile with your quick and easy wit. I don't know if you want to be approachable if that makes sense? But you come across as being very caring and loving to those who you choose to be that way with.

On a regular basis I cry under the shower because all those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain or in that case in the water drops that come from my shower that cant even give me hot water ! Even my shower failed me. Mind you not paying the bill may have been the causs

How I see myself?

I'm a decent bloke, intelligent, good heart, good head, common sense, probably more mate material than fuck material, prone to making ill timed daft comments, but make some on point ones too

Not much to look at, but personality and the way I carry myself wins me admirers as does my warmth, understanding and patience

I don’t think your as confident as you make out. You can be lovely and you definitely are not what you make out to be on the forums.

You are amazing guy when you show the real you and your not sidetracked. You are extremely intelligent, sweet, protective and thoughtful.

Kind of the point of the thread really.

I often think that we see ourselves a certain way and get stuck in certain thought processes where we tell ourselves we're 'this'.

I think it's good to see things from an outside perspective and shift that internal narrative.

Physically; fat and curvy, wonky boobs, scarred skin, bright hair that is cool and though I wear a lot of make up, it's well applied. 4/10.

Personality; I think I come across very confident though I'm not. I'm a dreamer who tried to be positive. Very open minded and empathetic. Lloyal and honest to a fault at times. Self deprecating and often feel like a fuck up.

I understand what you're saying but I think you're discounting the benefit that can be found in just talking to friends or strangers even.

A counselling dynamic requires trust in order to be of benefit but that delves into the depths of a person's psyche. Getting feedback about how other perceive you isn't counselling, it's no different than asking your friend "what do you think of me?" A person doesn't require therapy in order to indulge in a touch of introspection.

Personally, I think your concerns are rather excessive and you're not really grasping the intent of the thread.

How do I see myself ?

Well up until I had the misfortune to have a heart attack 18 months ago I was a confident , affable , cheerful and very sociable chap . I worked with the public , had stacks of mates , and the wife and I would go out swinging three times a week .

After that I became more insular , we no longer go out swinging , I’ve lost contact with the mates which shows how shallow all that was , and it seems that all I do on these forums is upset people .

Fortunately my relationship with my wife has gone from strength to strength and we are so happy . I’ve retired from work and I’ve never been happier if the truth be known . I have no need to get myself involved with anything stressful .

So despite knowing that I’ve created this persona here that’s one of intransigence , that I’m unwilling to embrace all the new stuff going on around me , that I have no empathy and so on , I can’t say I’m at all bothered . The things that matter in my life - my wife , my family , my health are all I care about now .

To be liked / respected by a bunch of strangers on a swingers site is way down the list of priorities for me now . I’m not sure it ever was if I’m honest . Those who have been around long enough will know I’ve never been backward in coming forward with sharing my opinions and thoughts relating to this lifestyle . And this hasn’t always gone down too well with some of you . Nor has my sense of humour which can be very dry , and certainly a lot of my views are stuck back in a previous era .
