If a message has been "cut/copied and pasted??

Bern here long enough to spot fakes, timewasters, pic collectors with relative ease now but the elusive one is the copy and paste mailshot.

Seriously, how d'you know what you're looking for?? What's the obvious (and not so obvious) signs cos for all we know it's a well presented, carefully thought out opening message?

Its usually the way its worded...

The most glaringly obvious thing is if they have been messaging couples then forget to change certain words...

Just the way it’s worded really.

‘I’ve read your profile..’ when you can tell by the copy and paste that they haven’t.

it being a long but common message that you've maybe seen before, it's a stereotypical message basically, you can't tell from the actual message normally but it would be guesswork to actually say for sure

Usually there’s no mention of your name or anything from your profile.

I’ve been sent messages with other names in them. Lol.

They usually start good morning. When sent at 3pm

The right place

Most men wouldn’t care if they got a cut and paste message from a woman.

An unsolicited message is a rare event. It would be a red letter day.

Its usually quite a long message, lots of your photos are amazing your profile is great, blah de blah. 7 or 8 lines for a first message. Naaaa , messages are deleted to readily on Fab and without reply quite often for someone to send a novel as a first message. Definitely copy n paste. Good copy n paste artist will also have your name in it , within first couple of words . Ie : Hi kaz blah blah blah. It gives it the sense of personal touch , all he did was delete out the previous persons name from the paste job and insert a new name.

If there isn’t any reference to your profile (bio or pics) and is all about them and what they want I usually presume it’s a copy and pasted message that they’ve sent out to every female within a 20 mile radius.

When you see the same message over and over...

Usually there's groups of women that slander the men that do it because the women recieve the same message from same guy you get groups of women posting the status such and such is a time waster and copy pastes his messages giving the poor guy a bad rep.

I don't delete any messages so when they send me the identical message 4 weeks later having changed my profile picture I usually just block at that point particularly when I had responded back to them originally and they clearly forgot who I was.

Hmmmm, I dunno. Maybe we have and just haven't been able to pick up on it.

It's about the only 1 we can't fathom instantly.

JJ can spot a single man with a couple profile in the first 3-4 words but copy and paste seems to be eluding us in terms of spotting them

Usually get so many from women on here and it's obvious because there are little points in my profile they would refer to had they read it.

Usually they'll read my veris and comment on that as if that would impress me...it doesn't.

It's the ones that are so generic that they could send exactly the same message to anybody and it would be just as relevant. There would be no mention of anything specific about us that made them want to contact us.

Technically they might not be literally copied and pasted, but they might as well be.

Why don't you like them commenting on your veris?

They love mine.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

So what do you write as a message to someone who's profile consists of something like "looking for men or couples for fun" or the ones that are a shopping list of what they dislike?

A great message can be tailored to suit individuals, think of it as a sandwich, the bread is the start and end of the message, its the filling thats important..

There are a multitude of fillings that can be applied, yep, even banana and anchovy...

I won't deny that most of my messages start with the same attention grabbing few lines and finish with the same daft joke.

Thats what grabs peoples attention and makes them want to read the not so interesting bit in the middle which is based around the small amount of detail it is possible to obtain from most profiles on fab.

I appreciate that forumites are a different breed and all have impeccable profiles, those can be spotted immediately, but for the rest it is a case of cold reading..

Oh they love mine too but it's that they only ever read those and assume they know enough about me.

The profile is there to be read lol

"So what do you write as a message to someone who's profile consists of something like "looking for men or couples for fun" or the ones that are a shopping list of what they dislike? "

If there really is nothing in their profile that you can work with, why are you sending them a message?

If you're interested enough to send a message, there must be something that attracts you to them. Use that. It might be a photo, a recent status, a clever profile name, their impeccable use of punctuation, anything...

If you're just throwing out mails to anyone and everyone, perhaps don't do that. That's the behaviour that people are complaining about.
