I've just ordered myself some fire red hair dye and wondered if any of you have ever dyed your hair a bit of a crazy colour and how well it was received.
Ive been bright pink before and loved it. |

I'm ginger and before accepting it I had a load of different colours (was into the Punk scene when I was at uni)
Died my hair black (and got laid that very same night after a seriously long dry patch)
When the black had grown out i used pre lightener so i looked like a badger (or skunk depending how cruel people felt)
I then bleached it white for a snowboarding holiday during which I used some pink highlight stuff (the powered mixture) and it went bright red for about a day then the UV did something to it and it went grey -
I leave it alone now I'm all grown up and needing to be (semi) respectable though |

Had my hair all the colours under the sun, dyed it parrot green when i was at school and it didnt go down well. This is the most normal my hair has been in my life, i though i was getting on a bit so tamed it. But im seriously missing the red i had before and contemplating going back to it |

I have had purple.. I have had pink.. red with purple.. red with black.. blonde with pink.. but most often Black with blue.. or purple.
to be honest I spent most of my life as a red head.. as it just kinda suited me..
I dont think any of my friends are ever surprised.. however.. some of my kids friends parents kinda looked at me a bit funny..

"Going to bleach it first to get maximum effect.. hopefully it will fade to either a nice pink or orange after :D "
I had mine fire red about 4 years ago. Absolutely amazing colour.
Keep the colour hard by rinsing in tomato juice (I kid you not)! |

in my early 20s i was a bit goth/alternative/punk and went many shades of red blue and purple... all good fun, obviously got mixed reactions, but personally loved it, but then i did have the flowing locks to match.
I have always had to bite my lip when a good looking women with brightly coloured hair was in close vicinity.. one of the few occasions i seem to lose the ability to speak. Particularly a sucker for a vivid red/blue or pink. |

I have had my hair many different colour...last time I coloured it it was bright red...as I was forty at the time...people thought it look weird...but as I never care what folk think...I thought it looked great...
They did get used to it though...go for it...is what I say... |

i think i have worked my way through every colour they do over the years
recently it was pink although that wasn't a crazy colour that was a toner i mixed too strong so it grabbed and even though i initially went i soon loved it
currently i have an obsession with having turquoise hair that i have resisted so far but i have recently seen a really cool one in the directions range so i might just give in and get it out of my system
mr b often rolls his eyes and tells me it really is time to grow up but i have a scarey feeling i'm never going to |

I was just considering dying my hair bright red but i think im gonna have to go to a salon, and if i go to a salon i know i will want another weave as well as the dye... and right now thats alot of money lol so im avoiding the salon and staying boring.
but previous colours and highlights include;
Pink, 3 shades
Red, 5 different types
blue
Blue-black
Blonde ( after the red washed out lol)
Purple - 2 shades
But i've been pretty tame recently... just browns and reddish browns... time for some crazy |

if you have no colour on your hair currently the Schwarzkopf live range is good to do a home red that is quite bright but if wanting the crazy colour reds then yes ya right trip to salon for first application is wise although topping up yourself is ok |

Thanks for the advice, i have trouble with hair dye as i have mixed afro hair.. its just so thick it doesn't take on the brighter colours properly... so going to the salon guarantees the colour results are spot on.. and most importantly with brighter colours not patchy :D |

I have had my hair all sorts of colours also. I find Directions dyes are better and last longer than Crazy colours.
A wee tip is to put some of the dye in your conditioner so every time you wash you can top up your colour, this only applies to veggie dyes tho (directions, crazy colours, manic panic, etc) also becuse these dyes don't contain ammonia or chemicals found in box dyes, you can leave it in as long as you want to develop. I leave my dye in over night and when I rinse in the morning, hardly any colour comes out at all. It makes it really bright and looks deep in colour.
Washing with cold water also helps keep colour bright. |

i have been just about every colour possible. my latest is i went from bright purple to bleach blonde ive since toned blonde down a bit as was a bit too bright but i do it all myself and touch wood never had a disaster yet.
i dye my hair every 3-4 weeks to cover my roots and the grey tht comes through and get fed up with same colour so quickly. the one i stayed the same for the longers was firey red then the bright purple.
good luck xx

"am doing my roots yet again tonight, but i am getting a build up of colour and saw this colour remove in superd***,anybody tried it,"
Is it colour B4? It depends on the type of dye you use. It is meant for box dyes. I have used it before but I thought it was rubbish. It left my hair quite frizzy and didn't lift that much colour out.
If its vegetable dye in your hair then head and shoulders, washing up liquid or clarifying shampoo is great for stripping the dye out. It will only take your hair so far tho. It just gets rid of the build up (which is what you want) |

wow brilliant tip, thank you. Do you know if the red will completely fade out leaving me a blonde or would i be an orange colour until i re dye it red? |

Yes i have but not deliberately, my niece was staying with me and she had this shampoo that dyes your hair golden blonde.
I never read the the label just used the first one to hand, well it turned my hair a lovely shade of ginger. Everybody was sniggering and I didn't get the joke.
I did when I went to relieve myself.

No, it won't fully fade out, there will always be some residue left. Red is one of the hardest colours to fade. You would have to eventually bleach out or dye over.
The end fade will depend in the brand and shade of dye you use also it could fade pinky rather than orange, depending on the shade again. |

Sorry I just realised you said fire red. I'm sure that its a pink based dye but I'm not 100%. You can see what base colour a dye is by putting a wee blob off it on paper then smudging it. Red will either look orangy or pinky. Hope that makes sence lol! |

Don't bother with the supposedly stronger one - I've had much better results from the standard one. |
