While Rentaghost did make me laugh as a kid, I would have to say it would definitely have to be put in the weird kids tv programme category. Any kids tv programmes you would put in the weird category? |

Cartoons were better in my day!
Apart from programmes like Ren & Stimpy and other of those Nickelodeon kind of programmes that I never got into.
Much of Nickelodeon's stuff is weird imo.
Spongebob was funny though. |

The new 'Rise of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' fits into this category for me.
I'm in the minority that prefers the unheralded 2003 series.
I'm really not as much of a nerd as I might seem. |

I can't remember the name of the programmes but there was a very weird dubbed German kids drama on the BBC in the 80's. The storyline seemed to revolve around some miserable German gangster or businessman who tried to buy some kids smile off him. Anyone else remember it? |

At the time I didn’t think that the programs were weird but it seems to me that in some kids programs most of the content went over my head.
For example, Magic Roundabout was probably written by some aging hippy who was off his face on hallucinagens, what else explains Dylan the hippy rabbit?
Another odd one was Willo The Wisp, the cartoon with a speaking TV, narrated by Kenneth Williams. It was surreal! |

The adventures of Tim Tyler
The BBC bought a shit load of crappy foreign kids tv shows back then. |

"The Tomorrow People used to scare me. That's early 70s
There was a US version made recently, though it wasn't filmed on Barr Beacon, that used to be famous for sex too"
Oh I didn't know TM was filmed around Barr Beacon. |

Thomas the Tank Engine still unnerves me a bit. I could never figure out if it was a real face of flesh and bone or something traped in the engine.
There was an episode where one of the trains refuses to work so the fat controller has it bricked up alive behind a wall. |

The Changes. It was on in 1973 about adults smashing up all technology and a young girl going on the run with some Sihks to try and find her family... the electricity power pylons and cables made a weird buzzing sound |

The Secret Life Of Toys was a bit freaky... early 90s on BBC1, a Jim Henson show about toys that came to life. Traumatised me that did, especially 'Beam Land' |

I loved that! Just yesterday I made my youngest puff up his cheeks and pull out his ears so that he looked like Pob. He didn't know what I was on about. I'm easily amused..... |

Into the Labyrinth was a scary one in it's day. I think the makers of childrens tv in the 70's and 80's just wanted to give kids nightmares. Mind you its on YouTube and it's boring as hell watching it back now. |

"Chorlton and the Wheelies
Fenella the witch was a hoot
Then there was the Adventure Game, celebs pitting their "wits" against shape changing dragons and being evaporated at the end "
Chorlton and the Wheelies was my favorite. I tried to have Chorlton as my profile pic but Fab wouldn't allow it. |

Stopit and tidyup used to give me the creeps as a kid

I watch it on YouTube and think the cast must have had a great time filming it because it was such a obvious tongue in cheek programme. |

Another one to add to the collection would be The Red Hand gang, but only for the excessive use of dungarees! And the theme tune gets in you're head - I can still hum it now and I haven't watched it for 30 years. |

Does anyone remember Knightmare in early 90s/late 80s?
Some kids would stick VR headsets on or something and play through medieval scenes trying to solve puzzles and moving onto scenes and hopefully making it to the end after weeks.
It was frightening as a kid.
The scenes usually had time being of the essence and one time when time was running out a huge flying skull appeared on the screen flying all over the place going to get them unless they finish the puzzle QUICK to unlock the way out and get out of there.
Another time, a kid was crossing tricky stone platforms above a black abyss deep in a castle and had to solve a puzzle to cross to the next one with time running out before each platform disappeared. The sense of panic and urgency was horrible - they couldn't solve the last one in time and the platform abruptly disappeared and the kid dropped down into the black void. It was (K)nightmarish |

I forgot all about Woof, the programme about a boy who had a problem: He kept turning into a dog. No I'm not making this up. I think it was a little white Westie.
He had no control over this rare condition, with the only warning being an itchy nose seconds before it happened and it would happen randomly. Then later on he would turn back into a human randomly and have to find his clothes.
In later series he had to escape the scary dog catcher... played by Dirty Den
What a weird programme. |

Not sure if it’s weird, but it was definitely terrifying. “Are You Afraid Of The Dark?”
Especially the episode where a girl keeps hearing a little bit saying “I’m cold” at night, before discovering a dead body in a tree outside the house. I couldn’t sleep for weeks. |

Knightmare was awesome and cutting edge at the time. Wasn't VR though. The kid with helmet couldn't see anything as they used bluescreen tech to impose the dungeon graphics, but if he looked down he'd just see a blue floor. Essentially he's just walking through the same series of rooms but looks good on TV.
Yeah some of it was a bit out there. |

Have you ever, ever felt like this?
Have strange things happened? Are you going round the twist?
