It depends.
The Bible would have no bearing on my reasons to lie for someone in court.
I'm scared of prison so I wouldn't want to ever be in that position! |

Although I don't consider myself a devoutly religious person anymore.
If I swore on the bible, I could not tell a lie, for anyone, or anything. "

Me too (depending on what they’d done of course).
It’s a case if could I? Yes I could

Even my kids.
If they were in court, and I truly believed them innocent, then I wouldn't have to lie.
My eldest son stole sweets from a shop when he was 6, put upto it by a friends older brother.
He was marched back into the shop, apologised & handed over his pocket money.
I didn't raise my children to commit crimes, of any nature |

When I did jury service you chose whether to swear on the bible or just do an oathy thing, I did the oathy thing.
I felt if I was committing to the bibley one it was false for me as I don't believe in it, not that I would have tried to twist anything anyway regardless.
It's more about having a personal conscience than anything else.

I’m sure most people didn’t. But if it came down to it I’d take a bullet for my kids. Nobody else but my kids I would. |

That would depend on whether I believe them to be completed innocent or not, I don’t think I could live with myself, if I lied to protect someone that had done something that wrong and another person suffered in their place that was innocent.. |

I suppose, it would depend on the crime.
Something minor, trivial, I could refuse to answer, no comment, for something minor.
But a biggy, an awful crime. No. Never. |

My family and friends mean more to me than a book used to control the masses and a law that doesn't apply to everyone equally.
I'd lie, steal and cheat to protect my immideate family, especially my son's. Some friends may as well be blood relatives and I'd protect them from the long arm of the law if I didn't think the crime was that bad.
On the whole I'm relatively open and honest, but I will break that behaviour to protect the ones I love, if need be.
It's not like I have much respect for the law or the book anyway. |

This is where doughnut and I differ (which isn’t often) he said he would do anything to protect his kids if they were in trouble and if that meant he took the blame for them he would, however I believe that if my kids did something that they ended up in court for, I would let them get punished for their crimes (I mean if it was clear as day they did whatever they were in court for) because they need to learn from their mistakes, so no, I wouldn’t swear on the bible for anyone if I knew they were guilty. |

No matter how much I loved the person being accused, I just couldn't lie on oath. It's not a natural thing for me to do to as I was brought up to be an honest person and always tell the truth. I would be too scared to commit perjury and cause a miscarriage of justice. |

If I was ever in the place that I had to go to court with a friend/family and lie to get them out of a situation, I wouldn't.
If you find yourself in court and need someone to lie, you deserve to be there and be legitimately trialed. |

As a non-believer, I use the affirmation in court rather than a religious oath. But no, I wouldn't lie in court. |

I have never been to court and hope i never have to but I'd never lie even if it meant saving a family member or friend like giving a false alibi and I'm not a religious person but know in my mind it would be wrong to do so. |

No.
Not only that, but it is not a requirement of the courts.
Other options are available.
You would not expect a Muslim t swear on the Bible would you. No, they are able to take an oath on the Koram.
As for Atheists, such as myself, or anyone else not wishing to swear on the bible, a general statement of affirmation is all that is required.
I know this as I spent 6 and a half years battling through the courts over my children |

Quite. I could put my hand on Harry Potter or The Art of the Deal and it wouldn't matter. I'm not lying in court. |

I've sworn on the bible many times.
The bible has nothing to do with my choice.
If I swear to tell the truth, I tell the truth.
