Only once. Woke up and couldn't move for a few hours. Was crashing at someone else's place for the night on a blow up mattress, so might have been the way I was sleeping. |

No I didn't. But thankfully it only lasted a few minutes. |

Yep, I had a cupboard in my bedroom and when it happened I would focus on that, and it always looked like it was getting smaller and smaller |

It is speculated that the Greek mythological beings known as the Asphyx (and indeed some stories relating to vampires) were derived from people’s misunderstanding of the sleep paralysis experience; The apparent ‘pressure’ upon the chest and subsequent difficulties in breathing (as are often reported by sufferers) were interpreted as ‘demonic’ assaults |

It's a regular occurrence for me. Never gets any less terrifying. I find a little sound in the background helps a lot. If i sleep in quiet darkness, it triggers my episodes. |

LJ sleeps in quiet darkness usually, but for me, he does accept something in the background, thankfully |

That used to freak me out when I was younger, things or I would seem very large and small at the same time. |

Now that is a decidedly startling perceptual distortion. From what I have read, alterations in the visual perception of the space around the sufferer are quite common phenomena associated with the experience.....as are the somewhat unsettling (and often terrifying) experiences of perceiving a ‘presence’ or else (thankfully, less commonly) ‘seeing’ vague, shadowy figures.... |

Always someone trying to rip me out of my body. No matter how hard I try to move, the parylisis prevents me from doing so. It feels painful, but not the conventional type of painful. It's difficult to explain

I had a few episodes when I was younger, I used to concentrate on the corner of the room by the window. Sometimes it seemed to so far away and other times really close up, very frightening at the time. |

That sounds decidedly bloody scary
It is pellucid to see how such negative experiences have fuelled notions of astral assault |

I think that is lot of paranormal experiences that typically occur at night, are explicable from natural phenomena, up including sleep paralysis and the alterations to our states of consciousness. |

The scariest thing is, that sometimes I am ripped out of my body and find myself flying around. But it's not a good feeling. It contributed to years of insomnia, because i was terrified to go to sleep. As I've gotten older, it's more apprehension and the hope i dont get it. |

I’ve never had that but used to suffer from night terrors really bad for about ten years, it was horrendous, I almost died once by falling down the stairs and narrowly missed cutting my throat open, it was like being stuck in a nightmare on elm street film. Since I’ve been with Doughnut I rarely get them and if I do they are no where near as bad, before with my ex husband it was really bad, almost every night. |

I think I had one once, but I'm pretty sure it was the result of a devastating back workout.. I ended up trying to throw myself off the bed by turning my head really fast.
I do suffer from hypnic myoclonus (muscle twitching). It's that falling feeling as you doze off. Docs think it's because I hit deep sleep really fast. Normally as your brain goes through sleep stages it releases inhibitors to stop your body reacting to your dreams. I just drop through the levels a bit faster than most. |

I have it more when I have been stressed for a long period of time.
Always terrifying and takes time for me to come to terms, then I just remember the line from Kill Bill “wiggle your big toe” and concentrate on that until I can wiggle it and then to my foot and try and get my leg to fall out the bed.
Hate that feeling |

I have, though due to being unable to move had only seen legs, and on a few occasions a dangling axe. Before I’d see this, I’d hear them climbing the stairs, and be frozen stiff.
I’ve never had the old succubus on my chest: which would be preferable to those I do have.
I am unfortunately a frequent sufferer and have been since childhood. |

I’m awake as it’s happening, it’s a visual hallucination between the nocturnal and waking world. What usually happens is that I fall back asleep (no idea how this is possible). It’s a scary experience, of death is the cousin of sleep:- I take it that I’m destined for hell. |

It really was, I used to be tired all the time. Sometimes I would see things like snakes coming in the window etc, other times I would ‘wake’ and be as nice as pie to my ex and others I would scream abuse at him, the worst one was when I thought he was thin to kill me with a knife (I since realised he was trying to calm me down) which is how I ended up with blood pouring out my jaw.
There was a funny one once, I managed to convince him the ceiling was caving in and we ran down stairs stark naked (leaving our kids upstairs!) he opened the door and I zipped up a jacket and we both woke up before we reached outside lol x |

I'm a sufferer of this. The best thing to do is to try and take deep breaths and concentrate on moving your body. (finger or toe then bigger). It helps shorten the length of time you feel paralysed.

Twice. The first time I saw a naked figure walk around my bed and get in it (I live on my own) and I was terrified. There was a tiny bit of my brain that knew it was some sort of dream and noise would make it stop but I couldn’t move. I eventually managed to blow my lips, everything returned to normal and I was asleep again in a nanosecond.
The second time was fleeting. I remember being frightened of going to sleep a few times, it was such an horrific experience. |

Yeah a few times. The worst was when I fell asleep on the sofa. When I woke up I couldn’t move or talk and I could see everyone around me but couldn’t do anything to grab their attention. I thought I was dead.
It’s been a lot milder since then. But usually always involves the feeling that there’s someone sat on the bed. Weird. |
