North Norfolk area |
Spent far too many lunchtimes in a record shop in Dartford whilst at school, headphones on, sampling albums.....or LP's as they were known then!
A lot of 60's/70's stuff, still have most of the LP's I spent my hard earned paper round money on.
Free/Bad Co
The Who
Slade
Moody Blues
Barclay James Harvest
Uriah Heep
Derek and the Dominoes
Pink Floyd
Must confess to an occasional session of revisiting my youth........my poor ears, lol |

"A brilliant decade...I'd be typing all night with all the great acts across different genres. Far more eclectic and interesting than these days. "
I couldn't even tell you what has been in the charts for about the last 20 odd years, apart from Somebody ft. someome else |

"Totally agree with everyone and their choices.... but there was some godawful shite around in the 70's too... methinks some rose tinted glasses are being worn here ?? "
very true there was some dreadful acts in the 70s as well as some brilliant ones.todays music though is mostly dreadful crap so i'll take the 70s any day over todays tuneless drivel |

My brother would put the blue light bulb on his room, crank up his stereo, light the rizzla and put on anything from Mountain to Hendrix via Santana.

I think that’s the same with any decade. For every perceived classic there was a novelty record or a St. Winifred’s School Choir right next to them in the charts. |

There is in every era though - early 80s was when my musical tastes really took off and I always look back at that time fondly but a recent watch of some early 80s TOTPs showed that for every Madness, The Jam, Dexys or The Specials there was stuff like Fiddlers Dram, St Winifreds School Choir, The Dooleys and worse around!! |

I love 70s rock. Recently discovered (from a Bowie quote) a band called Fanny:
“One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace. And that is Fanny. They were one of the finest… rock bands of their time, in about 1973. They were extraordinary: They wrote everything, they played like motherfuckers, they were just colossal and wonderful. They’re as important as anybody else who’s ever been, ever; it just wasn’t their time. Revivify Fanny. And I will feel that my work is done”

I was born in 77 so obviously missed it all first time around but my favourite 70s stuff is mostly jazz, funk and fusion. I have just discovered Steely Dan which I am loving and loathing in equal measures so far! |
