I was thinking about the tattooed, muscular, nice haircut and well groomed look and where I had first noticed it. My first remembrance was seeing some of the gay guys around Soho London looking really well proportioned, slick and being oily (last word not a compliment). Fast forward 2 decades and around these here parts East London same look is called hipster. |

How tight (men and women) do you need those jeans to be?
Should they be hanging off your arse too as you walk?
How much time and energy do you spend waxing that chest etc?
Or cutting that hair or beard?
How much time and money do you spend on creating that look?
Is it worth it to you?
Who are your role models in the style you have?

My style is partly the women who wore makeup in my childhood (enhance features, put myself together, but don't overdo it), partly pretty frilly dresses I've loved since I was tiny, partly my love for sleek clothing looks (doesn't go with frilly dresses ha), and partly accepting my body and working with it not fighting it. (for example I've always adored thin, pin straight hair. I've learned that I get better results not trying to suppress my thick wavy hair) |

Ha, OK. So. My dress and skirt sense is 40s-60s inspired. My makeup is probably mid 90s inspired though I keep up with the trends and do use modern colours and techniques. My shoes and accessories are all over the shop. My casual wear is probably closest to late 90s athletic wear. My hair style is 60s but in a way that plays with my hair type. Everything I wear is shaped over time by prevailing trends (so I wear straight legs rather than my preferred bootcut, because bootcut looks ridiculously wide in a sea of skinnies) and what's available in stores. |

Their getting harder too find.

If you really want to know....where it started was James Dean in “rebel without a cause”. I had a bright red harrington jacket, original 501’s (the ones that came from US prisons), Sta-Prest trousers and Ben Sherman shirts, with Bass Weejun penny loafers. Then it morphed through so many trends, rockabilly, mod, suedehead, soulboy, goth, indie kid, etc etc until I ended up here back in Levis and red wings with a slight diversion into Cos, Carharrt, and Castelli (my mamil moments). So typical middle aged bloke fighting the downbound train. I lived in Shoreditch 30 years ago when it was a wasteland. Wish I had kept that flat! |

I just have large thighs (at any size, this isn't an overweight thing). A sea of skinnies in store is depressing, because at best they're amazingly unflattering on me, at worst I need to go several sizes up to get them on. Why can't stores have 25 varieties of trousers I can't wear and 5 that I can, rather than 28/2 or sometimes even 30/0? |

I have very eclectic taste, so influences come from everywhere.
Some days I’m very gothic/alt, influenced by the gothic horror genre, rather than a person per se, although I adore the Victorian/Edwardian looks so corsets feature a lot. Luckily this lends itself easily to steampunk too.
Other days I’m more vintage. For that I would say I have been influenced by Dior, Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, as I think they’re the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen.
Some days I’m fetish inspired, lots of latex etc, but again because of my alt influences.
Then there are days when I’m simply casual, but my own spin on it. I never follow a trend per se, as I’d be so bored being pigeon holed into one style. Some of my looks are very high maintenance and I don’t always have time to achieve them.
Being into heavy metal, I found growing up, that women didn’t feature so strongly as a musical influence, and as such a style influence. I also had a strict and conservative upbringing so wasn’t permitted to express myself.
Now I do, and do so in whatever way I choose xx

Haha, not sure what I taught you, other than the fact I have a very extensive wardrobe. Mr thinks I have too much, but I have to disagree on that one he thinks I’m quirky, I think his way of dressing in casual sports gear to be hot, as he is athletic and looks amazing x
Do love a guy in a suit though, obviously more high maintenance but so hot!! xx |

I alter more traditionally masculine looks with red lipstick, or touches of lace, ribbons, velvet, unusual colours, jewellery. I'm a big fan of lace and filigree, which can be very girly girl or just a feminine nod in an otherwise masculine look. |

Do you like World War 2 uniforms like women in the RAF would have used. That cut in a modern version?

Day to day you’ll find me in either jeans, sneakers and a t shirt or gym wear...depending on what time of day it is.
When going out I like to over dress for what ever occasion it is.
I’m not sure I have a style icon or role model though |

"Whenever I cross dress, I strive to live to the image of my mother. What type of clothes did she wear?"
OOps - been away from forum for past 2 days. Not only in her physical appearance but also in the way she carried herself.
She was very demure and dressed in our local traditional dress almost every day(Kebaya). You can google Singapore or Malaysia Airlines stewardess dress (kebaya).
