How do you greet a meet ?

When you meet someone from here for the first time, how do you greet them, cause effectively they are strangers. So going in for a kiss on the cheek could be presumptuous, cause you don’t know they are attracted to you yet. A handshake is a bit formal and you look like an idiot and ruffling the woman’s hair is not really an option either.

If it's out and about then a kiss on the cheek but for fun I have met guys at the door of our house for the first time wearing my open top Basque and stockings. When that happens we are waaaaay past the polite peck on the cheek. |

Depends where I meet them.
I've had a peck on the cheek, a quick hug, a hello and he took my hand as we walked to the pub.

I have, in the past, greeted a man by leaving my front door open and waiting naked, bent over the arm of my sofa.
On a couple of occasions I'll be waiting in the pub/bar for him with his drink ready for him.
