To judge those in the public eye?
We watch their programmes
We watch their movies
We buy their DVD's
We buy their music
We buy the magazines that publish their inter_iews.
We buy their clothes collections
We read their books
We seek them on the internet.
In essence, we pay their very high wages and therefore, could be construde as their bosses.
They play to the public via the media and yet can try to call a halt to intrusiveness when it suits them.
Do we, therefore, have the right to judge them on how we see them behaving, what they spend their money on and what they get up to in their every day lives? |

No its not I don't like it if I am judged. But it is human nature and that's what we do good or bad we judge. But as we all know don't believe what we see and read in the media. |

"Nope, IMHO, in the same way that I do not expect my employer to tell me how to behave in my personal life. "
Thats cool........ however, what about those that court publicity to the highest level and then whinge about privacy when it suits them.
(I'm thinking Katie Price here) |

Celebs in particular court the press, they even have agents, and press officers in some cases, so that they remain in the public's eye.
When they feel they are slipping out of the limelight they often give an 'exclusive' to put them right back in the gaze of the public.
But....they tend not to like it when the same press and media expose them for something they would rather keep private.
Nothing worse for many celebs, particularly D listers, than to have people forgetting they exist anymore.

"Yes if we are feeling bored...
"
There's differing levels of fame, and not all bring it on themselves. I'm rarely one to judge, as I don't like to be judged... and I care little about celebrities and what they are up to.
However, as we know well from the forums, everyone 'has the right' to their own opinions, and so I guess the answer is yes. |

no...buying a product does not give you ownership over the producer.

Ok.....
But what about those who court massive amounts of publicity to make themselves famous and to enable them to earn huge amounts of money and then whinge when things get intrusive? |

There is a number of celebs what completely bring it on them selves they do not just play the game but they invite all and sundry in to there lives too then get pissy yes ok I am on about Katy price and yes a few more. Then again it is completely wrong to invade someone's privacy in such away. |

No, the percived interest in "celebraty" has destroyed our interest in TV Newspapers and Magazines...
Please just stop! if we don't make a fuss they will slowly disapear into the shadows and we can get back to having a life |

Define intrusive...are children ever fair game, they cannot ever give consent, no matter how much of a feck wit their mother is (am thinking katie price here).
But the important word here is right, you are treating it as a one way street. These stories only sell because people read them, which is a choice. i ignore all gossip, i have no interest in any of the magazines, so i am not complicit in the whole celebrity thing...you use your "right" to complain if you buy into the whole culture. |

Ok........
Do we then have the right to base our opinions based soley on what we see and do we have the right to discuss those opinions in an open forum, where the celeb is unlikely to ever see what has been said.
And ........ (you just knew there was going to be more).... if they did see those opinions, would they have the right to be upset by them if they were anti? |

I must state........ that in NO way do I ever agree to an open debate of celebs children or do I agree with celebs using their children to make themselves more publicity savy.
Children are innocent until they stop being minors. If their parents choose to use their fame to push their children into the public limelight, we should complain. It isn't, in my opinion, fair to use children for your own ends. |

That's a fair enough point but the kicker is, how do we know how far the press etc go towards invading their lives? Yes, we all know that celebs tout themselves when it's most advantageous for them, but is it right for them to have every aspect of their life covered?
We only see what the media want us to see. Out of the "normal" photos of celebs coming out of clubs/restaurants etc, how much do we not see?
It's a difficult one to call if I'm honest, mainly due to the fact that some celebs "whore" themselves out a lot more than others do, and by equal measures, some have their privacy invaded more than others. |

No I don't think we have a right. Yes its a fair comment that certain celebrities court the press and their jobs thrive on publicity, but I don't think we are entitled to know every last detail about them and they are entitled to a private life. Only a fool would believe every word written anyway.
Does Katie Price deserve a comedian to jibe about her disabled son.
Did Princess Diana deserve the press attention she got.
How far is too far?
And who is responsible, is it the journalists or is it us, joe public, who like to build up the idol and enjoy the fall back down |

Sorry I forgot to add this, we do form judgements on information we are fed. We shouldn't judge as words written by someone else shouldn't colour our _iew.
But we all do |

We don't know the real people behind the publicity.
Most 'Celebs' have people who will advise them on; fashion, what to say, think, where to be, what to be involved with, so all we see is the public side to them.
Which is why I love the true pictures of them, stories that show outside the bubble they are just as ordinary as any other person (with the fact they can afford to make the mistakes they do). Many also seem to be rather lacking in the gray matter area too, when left on their own.
Idolising false 'gods' etc |

For me personally, no as
I don't watch their programmes, rarely watch tv
I don't watch their movies as its too expensive to go to the cinema
I don't buy their DVD's as I can't afford to plus I threw the tv remote away by accident so cannot change the channel
I don't buy their music as I rarely buy anything new and I prefer to buy what I like and really want than what I am encouraged to buy
I don't buy my magazine to read their inter_iews, I buy it for the fashions and true stories, and it gives me something to do in my lunch hour if its chucking it down with rain. I don't miss it if one week I can't afford to buy it
I don't buy their clothes collections as I can't afford to and I am 51 not 25
I don't buy their books as I rarely read, and I prefer to read about who I want
I don't seek them on the internet as I don't give a shit what they are doing and I definitely don't twit-ta-woo them
I wouldn't buy perfume because it was endorsed or made by them, again I can't afford to and prefer what I like
I wouldn't buy a car because they are draped all over it, be serious that tells me nothing about the car does it
Am not swayed by sales and marketing rubbish at all, I buy what I want and like not because some famous person twitters on about it
To be honest, I think they have every right to privacy just as much as we do and really, I don't care who they are sleeping with, what rubbish they throw away, what they wear, buy etc, its only sad people with no lives that want to know all that.
And I don't give a shit how badly they behave, what goes around comes around, they will soon disappear from the public eye because they will go out of flavour, bad behaviour or not |

yes, if the source data used to help make the judgement is reliable and robust, otherwise you may make the wrong one.
if you read the tabloids, always read from cover to cover as the apology is usually a very small paragraph under the advert for 'incontinence pants or one big slipper'.
as for multi millionairess Katie Price is concerned...
1.. as if she cares
2.. very clever and astute business woman
3...good on her |

I couldn't give a flying fart what celebs think about good or bad press. I like what I like, I watch what I like and I but products for what the product is not for who's promoting it. So what some celeb gets miffed when snapped snorting a line of , or falling over smashed coming out of a treny London nitespot at 3am. They know the paps hang around outside these places yet still go and get wankered and make an arse of themselves. |

What yer modern-day so called celebrity get's up to, really doesn't matter a jot to me. I can't understand why some people care so much.
As for 'talents' like actors, directors, musicians - again even as a 'fan' I'm honestly only interested on their next project. If I'm going to judge anything about them it would be their work... it's nice to see them on chat shows if they are interesting and amusing, but if they are dull as dishwater (and many are) it won't stop me enjoying their work.
... I think I rambled off the path a bit, um.... form an oppinion of them if ya must, but don't believe everything ya read, lot's of things can be 'reported' innacurately and completely out of context.

i have a friend whos in the public eye and he is different to his inter_iews and things
when we see each other its chilling and laughing and nothing Ott
on stage or when inter_iewing he can come across very egotistical but hes far from that |

There are lots of truelly famous people that are not constantly in the lime light, they dont court the media and therefore should be left alone.
However, there are many so called celebrities that do nothing but court the media so i certainly dont think they should be complaining when it doesnt all go there way.
Also, celebrities are in charge of there own lives just as we are, the difference is if we go down a red light area to pick up a prostitute it wouldnt hit the front pages of the news. That is just one example, but if they are going to do things that they know they are going to get negative publicity for then it is up to them. Fame and money comes at a cost |

Look at someone like lady ga ga, probley one of the most famous singers around and adele, both come across as lovely down to earth people, only want to be known for there music. You dont see them selling stories to gain publicity because they dont have to |

I don’t think we have the right to know the private life of anyone just because they are an actor or a singer or a model or a host a show on the telly or whatever job they do. However there are those who cling on to their celebrity status by selling their soul to the tabloids and gossip magazines. They don’t just court the press, they solicit the press, prostituting their latest relationship or break-up. When someone makes a living from selling their private life, they have sold their right to privacy…. and more fool the twats who buy it. |

As long as we stay within the boundaries of the privacy laws of the relavant country, then I suppose we can explore our curiousities.
Sometimes though, reporting curiousity can venture into the realms of slander and libel |

I make judgements on everything, every day- I judge by my own experience.
That isn't the same as being judgemental though, I try to treat others as I wish to be treated, which includes not judging them too harshly, we are all falible.
Just because they happen to be in the public eye doesn't really bother me, there are good and bad celebs, and famous people and infamous people- same as any other section of society. |
