My art teacher used to wear them to 
So did my geography and maths teachers as I recall.
I can only assume that said teachers wore them in order to alert all pupils that they were ominously nearby and watching based on the sound the things made whenever they were walking |

They were great in the 70's styled in a mustard yellow colour! My brother and I believed if we walked like speed walkers we'd burst into flames through the friction

I had some (notice it’s emphasis on past tense there...ahem) burgundy ones - they were....um....interesting 
Like all seventies fashion though, they’re apparently quite ‘hip’ again now.... |

.....so did I, in burgundy too but they were quite trendy skinny ones so I think I pulled it off!

And yet there’s clubs that won’t allow you to attend if you’re wearing denim, but fashion disasters such as brown corduroys or beige chinos, 70’s lounge suits and a cheap collared polo shirt are seen as perfectly fine “smart attire”?
I do wonder why and how these clubs expect to attract any younger clientele with such a drab and dated dress code that seems more in tune with middle aged men at golf clubs than contemporary fashions. |

I think in my teans they were all I ever wore. I was denim jeans averse in those days. Green cords and possibly burgundy too. I do keep looking at them wistfully in shops now. |

I had a burgundy pair and a electric blue pair of Lois Jumbo Cords. They were the mutts nuts. 1-2 inch slit up the seams so they fell over your loafers properly! 
Paired them with Pierre Cardin roll neck top and Lyle and Scott jumpers. Ahhh, the 80s in South London!  |
