Following on from the Magnum thread.....

There are probably more shite remakes of TV series and films than good.

Any hidden gems that actually did the originals justice that you can think of?

I can certainly think of plenty of examples of the bad.

Pappilon , just why.

How can they match a film with Dustin Hoffman and McQueen.

The film is a timeless classic and should have been left alone.

Just out this week.films of this quality and depiction of history should never be remade.

Some films (especially 80s) films should be left alone , they are our memorys ,remakes mess up the feel good factor. X

Rami Malek and Charlie Hunnam.

If you've never seen the original it's ok.

If you have? It's a bag of shit.

There and to the left a bit

The remake of The Taking Of Pelham 123 is actually as good as the original.

Agree though that they're usually woeful - The Italian Job and Sergeant Bilko being two that should never have been made.

One that surprised me though as when it was announced I refused to even contemplate it as it seemed sacrilegious but actually enjoyed it when I saw it was Dad's Army - they made it different enough but still showed respect to the original

I liked the Italian Job remake - would have been much better if it was called something else though.

What bugs me almost as much as a shite remake is when the plot strays too far from the original, so as to be almost a completely different film.

I like Hawaii 5 0. And not just because of the delicious Alex O' Loughton either. It's a fun show to lose oneself in for 40 minutes.

Death race 2000

As of it’s time as the original David Carredine/ Sylvester Stallone version was it’s bloody funny

The Jason Statham remake was entertaining but mostly vacuous

12 monkeys, the tv show took the ideas from the film of the same name (which itself is also based on a short film called La Jetèe), and expanded on it and ran further with the concept than portrayed in the film.

And as mentioned above BSG was brilliant, so say we all.

Thought the True Grit remake was worth seeing

Did not think much of the American remake of girl with the dragon tattoo compared to the original

And why did anyone thinks remaking Ben Hur was a good idea

The Netflix version of Lost in Space was pretty great. BSG would otherwise be the best I could have thought of.

In a town Fab forgot

I put off seeing the Magnificent Seven remake for ages.

Convinced it was going to be BoS.

Saw a few trailers, thought it might be worth a watch.

Pleased that I did. They managed a few nods to the original too.

Of course the "original" Magnificent Seven wasn't the actual original Magnificent Seven.

Kurosawas version was stunning.

So, three good versions of one film. Not bad going......

Prisoner Cell Block H into Wentworth Prison.

Nice to watch a prison drama where the walls don't shake as they close the bars up , also liked that it was just "loosely based" and a bit more modern than a 100% remake.
