I've read on social media about a group of women who aren't shaving throughout January in an attempt to promote body confidence, and encourage women to feel comfortable with their natural selves.
So ladies - would you arrange to meet with hairy pits and legs? Fellas - do you care about hairy pits and legs? |

"How’s it promoting body confidence? Would work the opposite for me. I couldn’t stand hairy anything!
I think a better word be acceptance"
You might be right there - the wording may not be accurate, but I hope you get the idea. |

I do.
I was at the pool years ago with a friend who had a lot of pubic hair that showed when she wore a costume. Other women were openly laughing at her. So much for the sisterhood |

No. Excess hair increases body odour. I Can't imagine feeling relaxed if I thought I smelled bad.
I'm doing no meat no drink through to valentines day x |

No!
I get my foof waxed, but shave my legs & pits.
Had a few occasions where the fanny has been a bit untidy as inbetween waxes.
I decided last year to get my legs & pits waxed too, which meant not shaving for a monthish til long enough.
Oh it was hell!
Then I got an unexpected opportunity pop up to see my FWB.
I had to shave, even someone I knew well, knew wouldn't mind me having hairy bits... Nope, just couldn't do it! |

See I get a bit annoyed at that kind of thing. Why does it need “promoting”. Why can’t people just do what they want. If someone wants to just be natural all over then why don’t they just do it. Hairy bush is fashionable blah blah. It’s crap. If that’s what you want then do it, why does there need to be a big Facebook thing? Just like what you like and do what you do. Don’t let people dictate to you what to do. If someone said to me I’d prefer you to grow a big hairy bush and not shave your legs I’d suggest they find someone else. |

Fortunately, my body hair is both fine and fair, so even if I'm hairy, I'm not really hairy! I met one of my FB's recently and warned him that I hadn't shaved my legs and didn't want to either. He didn't care, but then he's a good guy |

But you can't just do what you like. I've been called an ape by fellow fabbers because I don't always shave, I've also been called unhygeinic and smelly. Now I don't give a tuppeny damn what ill informed rude people think about me and my body hair but some people do and feel they need to conform.
I don't know how anything will change by some women just letting their hair grow in January though because its still saying its only ok for a month and to make a point |

My actual body hair, as in arms, face, belly is very fine & blonde.
One thing that has always puzzled me.
My legs?
I first started shaving as a teen, the hair on my entire legs, thighs & calves was identical blonde & fine (yes I should have listened to my mum when she said I didn't need to shave)
If I don't shave my thighs, they still grow back fine & blonde, so why is it from the knees down I could be mistaken for a brillo pad?
When I let my leg hairs grow last year, I ruined several pairs of my favourite gym tights!!

True it will never change unfortunately. There will always be nasty ignorant people. I’ve always said the best thing we could rid the world of is ignorance in all shapes and forms. It would be a much happier place. |

Right now I look like an orangutan (a clean and hygienic one I'll hasten to add) with hairy everything - but not because I'm trying to make a point, just because I haven't been arsed to remove any hair. I *do* usually prefer to have smooth legs and pits, though I honestly couldn't say that's due to my own genuine preference or the pressure society puts on women to look a certain way. Who knows? I do know though there have been plenty of times in good weather when I've wished I could just have gone straight out without all the faff of shaving first which, as I'm short sighted, takes ages and usually ends up with a number of cuts. However, I'm not brave enough to do what I want and ignore the bitching and name calling I've heard other women subjected to when they've had the temerity to deal with their own body hair as they see fit.
If this 'Januhairy' thing opens a few minds then great, but sadly I think it'll be a long time before women get true automony over their own bodies before some people start shrieking about them being unfeminine, smelly, disgusting and all the other predictable insults. Of course, no one *has* to like any aspect of another person's body, but it grieves me when a minority try to make others feel bad about their choices by body shaming. |

"What about men? It’s not expected for them to shave anything if they don’t want to.
I’ve never been naked with a bloke with hairless leg, pits, arse, chest, nipples and arms.
"
What about them? You could argue that "Movember" is their equivalent!
Would you prefer it if they did shave for you? Have you ever asked a man to shave before a meet, and if so, did he?!

I don’t care who does whatwith their bodies and I’d never ask anyone to alter their stuff just for me. I just dislike the media standards that humans think we all must adhere to. Why are there discussions about women’s pits and not men? |

I can't regularly remove the hair from my armpits because I have hidradenitis suppurativa. I do wish I could because I hate it but shaving causes me to have more excruciatingly painful flare ups so I have to put up with the hair. I do sometimes use magic powder to remove it but not frequently since I left it on slightly too long once and ended up sore from minor chemical burns.
Thankfully I don't have a large amount of hair in my armpits anymore due to the scarring from the condition. |

A body is hairy, naturally. We only stave to conform to social 'norms'. Your preference may be for non hairy legs, arm pits, fanny etc but that's only due to decades of social programming and pressure. Of seeing 'perfect' hairless women in magazines and on TV.
I guess this campaign is showing that actually, it's OK not to shave all the time. There's no shame in a stubbly leg. Hairy puts are OK.
I can go weeks at a time without shaving and no one has ever turned me down for a fuck |

This attitude is the exact reason why some people are choosing to not shave for a month. They are highlighting the societal expectations on people to conform to what is perceived to be feminine (or masculine).
Body hair, or lack of, is no indicator of someones femininity and it is an attempt to change attitudes.
I can't shave my armpits due to a medical condition. Having hair there doesn't make me any less feminine, unclean or mean I haven't made an effort! |

Again its preference though. I don’t see how a campaign will change how people feel. Nails are natural, mine have been painted for 30 years, faces are natural, I don’t even go to tescos without make up on. Hair is natural etc etc. Doesn’t mean I think any less of a hairy woman who doesn’t wear make up. I just don’t think campaigns like that make any difference that’s all. |

I really can't say that it would make any difference to me, it's her body to do with as she wants.
There were many times that my ex partner turned up to mine having not shaved her legs or whatever, it didn't bother me as I felt it showed she was comfortable enough with me to be herself.
Femininity isn't about lack of hair, it's about the person and that's who I'd be meeting.
It's your body, do what you want with it. The sooner everyone respects an individuals choice with their body the better |

I'm lazy. If I can get away with not shaving my legs and pits I will.
I have men who weren't bothered that they were naked with me being a bit prickly.
I do pluck my chin hair and moustache though-I because it aggravates me. |

But where do preferences come from? You weren't born with an innate desire to shave.
Already on this thread several men and women have expressed how relaxed they are about shaving, on a site used primarily for sex. This whole discussion has already had a positive outcome. |

Because their mind has been changed by a campaign though?
Having thought about this I probably am wrong. You only have to look at the power of advertising etc to see how a lot of people are influenced by media/campaigns etc so yes it probably will have a positive affect to be fair. I guess because I’ve never really conformed to social expectations it doesn’t mean other people don’t. |

"I've read on social media about a group of women who aren't shaving throughout January in an attempt to promote body confidence, and encourage women to feel comfortable with their natural selves.
So ladies - would you arrange to meet with hairy pits and legs? Fellas - do you care about hairy pits and legs? Yeah it would put me off a bit. It isn't very feminine or showed they made an effort.
Do you shave your legs and armpits to show you have made an effort? No men don't do that because that isn't masculine. I do shave my chest normally only because I'm too hairy though really. Better no hair than too much I've found.
These people are deliberately choosing to be celibate for a month then?
I haven't been celibate for a month since I was 18 and I often have "unfeminine" hair. " Because you were snapped up? |

Mr N and I met when I was 24 nearly 25. Remember though this was the late 70s early 80s and although most of us women shaved our legs and armpits in the summer pubic hair was very common. Are you suggesting that if a woman is in a relationship her grooming standards slip? |

"How’s it promoting body confidence? Would work the opposite for me. I couldn’t stand hairy anything!
I can go weeks at a time without shaving and no one has ever turned me down for a fuck
But you do. It is a societal expectation for women to be hairless at all times (except for their head of course, where bring hairless raises a few eyebrows).
The campaign might not change anyone's minds or actions but it opens discussion about it. |

There's literally no point trying.... Your just wasting your data with him lol You never convince me. That's the problem."
You rarely stick to one side of the argument. You flip flop depending on who is posting and wether you can make some silly remark. Not worth it. |

I’ve always preferred the natural look. A hirsute lady is most desirable, in my humble opinion. |

I don’t shave my kitty fully anymore. I feel more sexy , feminine and confident now. The amount of men messaging saying they really like to see unshaved lady have tripled in my inbox .
I have more offers to meet now then ever before . What surprise me is how many younger men prefer a bush . |
