I'm not sure anyone quite knows anymore! But it's basically referring to "the norm". So people might be reffered to as vanilla if they're not into anything sexually adventurous. Or swingers might refer to having had vanilla sex and mean that it was one on one with nothing kinky going on. |

I was going to say the sex I had when I was married, but that was more flavourless than vanilla.
In fact, steamed rice has more flavour than my married sex life. |

Vanilla is a general term to describe 'the norm'. Conventional. Regular.
Why?
Just think Ice Cream. Vanilla is what we have come to know as 'plain' ice cream. The default option. Nothing exciting. |
