"I've been too fussy, now I'm keen to meet up with anyone, woman or couple lol" Aim low.
"It can mean that they're a snob with unrealistic standards. Or it can mean they realise that what they're looking for is hard to find (or indeed they want to convey they're not an easy lay). Maybe? Depends on whether or not they come across as a snob. " I think similar.
"Whilst there is nothing wrong with being fussy in life, it would depend on why they feel they have to announce it. It could be interpreted as anything from unrealistic in their expectations to they think they are better than others. It then falls to our own interpretation of their intention... never a good thing in reality " Some people are more classy.
| |||
"If someone says that they are 'fussy', what does that mean to you? And would you mail them? " They know what they like/want and may have clearly defined preferences. Would only message them if we met any preferences stated. There are plenty of profiles on here. There's generally no point in contacting people if they're specifying things you're not. That's my 'sensible' answer anyway. A

"If someone says that they are 'fussy', what does that mean to you? And would you mail them? " To us it means they are way too far up their own arse , and think they are better than us mere mortals . What makes me laugh about it is when you look on the profile and they aren’t all that ! And furthermore they spend their life moaning about not being able to find a suitable meet on here or anywhere else ! Which is probably because people who may meet their ‘fussy’ criteria wouldn’t want to meet them anyway . Would we mail them ? Would we fuck !

Whoooo someone’s got out the wrong side of bed today It’s always been a bugbear of ours . Nothing personal " We’re actually very sociable people and a lot of fun to be around we don’t look down our noses at anyone and will happily socialise with anyone regardless of what they look like but on the other hand yes we are a little bit choosey when it comes to playing we do need to feel some sort of physical attraction that doesn’t mean we’re up our own arses or think people are beneath us . We’re not naive enough to think we’re all that ourselves don’t worry

"I've been too fussy, now I'm keen to meet up with anyone, woman or couple lol" Translation..... I started down the fab road to sexual heaven looking for what I am actually attracted to.....however a few months in I now realise that to actually get laid I need to lower my standards and expectations..... So now I will consider those not really good enough for me in the real world..but hey, this is the internet, whose gonna know - I can always hide the veri's, right!

"If someone says that they are 'fussy', what does that mean to you? And would you mail them? " Depends if they explain what they mean....could be fussy about cleaning their house! To me that meant they did not have the balls to actually say they think they are red hot and they don't want any fat people nor anyone who is not generally considered very attractive. I don't think they are shallow for their preferences its just a pity they don't have as much balls as they do a high opinion of themselves.

I think it's because it's one of those "subjective" words so people interpret it and it's application differently. "Fussy just means having standards. " Not really. Preferring someone who might be, for example, more hygienic, or might be courteous and respectful could be considered as having high enough standards. But preferring someone, for example, over a certain height, with or without a beard, or with a particular colour of eyes is simply a preference, rather than something that could really be described as a high enough standard.

"Why don’t you all put “we’re not fussy “ as an header on your profile then it might give you an in site into what 99% of the men on fab thinks it means conversation over " Close, but no cigar. While I understand why you’re trying to defend yourselves, you really don’t have a sound grasp of the situation. There is a significant difference between just not being fussy (which just means that, while you have standards, you’re not a dick about it) and actually saying, “I’m not fussy,” which tends to be interpreted as being totally indifferent, and not having standards. The option picked by many is to just not use the word at all, because everyone has their own standards and preferences, so it’s acknowledged that it needn’t be said. At this point, you’re not going to change what everyone thinks of you using the word. You’ve got two options; you can accept it, and change it, or you can leave it there as a handy filter for the rest of us.
"I don’t like fuss, so would probably think they’re not for me. Also suggests a limited vocabulary as ‘exclusive’ and ‘selective’ sound so much posher.." I rather like "discerning"

"Omg. It’s only a word. So what if people are fussy and choosy! I am. Extremely. Does that make me any better or worse than anybody else? No it doesn’t! Why does it matter?! Just be whatever word you wanna be. " about time
"So may of you guy's making assumptions or judging we are fussy it not because we better that anyone but we try harder . This a bit of fun just have sex with who are what ever is not fun. To answer the question fussy is code for are you feeling confident if you are we will consider you." That's a nice way of looking at it.

"Fussy just means having standards. A damning indictment of our education system. What do you mean? He means it doesn’t mean that." But my OP asked what it means to the people reading this thread. It has nothing to do with education or the dictionary definition. I want people's thoughts, perceptions and feelings about the word.

" Sorry to be picky, but it’s not what you asked. You asked what we think people’s use of the word means. That’s different to what the word itself means. The meaning of the word is precise. Opinions on the use of the word only seem to vary if you choose to ignore the unarguable definition of the word. One cannot say, “‘Fussy’ just means having standards,” when that is, demonstrably, not the definition of the word. One could try saying, “Describing yourself as ‘fussy’ just means you have standards,” although, to do so, simply highlights that, while you have standards (as does everyone else) you do not have a firm grasp of the language.

O ffs give it up we all understand what it means . You call yourself oatcake doesn’t mean you are one does it ffs? Or maybe you have no understanding of the word . It’s just a word used loosely

You know everyone's mind better than they do and your language and intellect far surpasses everyone else's. I probably wrote that wrong. Feel free to correct it.

"Depends on what they mean and do we meet the criteria they lay down on their profile. When we have seen fussy on a profile in the past it has normally been accompanied by a long list of dos and don'ts so tend not to bother." Absolutely 'we expect'and ' you must' I tend to not even make it to the pics. Some might be trying to reduce the unsuitable messages, but they make themselves look too much hard work, it's supposed to be fun for all, not feel like swimming against the tide
