You know how you can read the start of a message before you open it?

Quite often that dictates whether I open it straight away or leave it for later.

Do you think if you couldn't see it it would affect how you treated messages?

If it's all "Hey babe, wot u dn?" type shite then I tend to think, "fuck it, I could be cleaning the grout instead of reading and replying to this shite"....Doubt you're missing much.

I have often wondered this because I still contruct a message in a traditional way, so

"Greeting,

Message

Sign off"

With lines in between, so on the preview, I am guessing that if I start a message with 'Hi', it may look like a lazy message without any substance? Or does the preview truncate it into one line? Hmm

what are these "messages" you speak of? Do site supporters get an "Inbox" or something?

a quandary, could you change my mind?

OP. I do think that counts for any and all message platforms (text, email, kik, WhatsApp, etc (as there are others). If you are unable to see any of the message then it has to be opened (I'm inquisitive).

I love the way people read the messages, then they unread them.

Yeah actually, my nose would probably bother me and I'd get round to messages faster. I usually just skim for any from friends or ones that look interesting and only go back to the rest later.

Seeing there's an attachment makes a difference too as I'm too nosy to not want to know what it is, even if the profile hasn't grab me.

If I do that it's generally because I plan to go back to it. If I leave it read then it'll get deleted when I tidy my inbox.

Yeah, I think some do it so they don't forget to reply later but others lol, just a bit up themselves.

I do that in work all the time. If you've got 20 odd messages you'll prioritise surely. If I go back and mark unread then I'll remember to reply....sometimes

Beggars can’t be choosers I think the old saying goes : the rare yellow icon is always exciting whether there’s a preview or not. I always look forwards to it, hopefully at some point within the next week or so it’ll light up again

Somewhere In The Ether…

Archetypal message heading: ‘Hi’

Contents of message: ‘How r u?’

The above is representative of about 95% of all received

The right place

My inbox has never got into double figures of unread messages. So I read them all.

I do the same!

I think if I couldn’t see it, it would affect how I treated them. I’d probably read them quicker!

I don't think my unread count has ever been above 4.

If people couldn't see the first part of a sentence more would be read.

Good question! I reckon more would get read.

If there was no sender name/ link to view their profile until the message was opened, I reckon that would make a big difference too.
