Have any of you ladies & gents ever tried it? I'm massively over weight and i am finally ready to lose the weight for ME.. and not because others have told me too.
I have cut all the crap out of my diet, but i still need an extra push and think the weekly meetings will give me motivation.
Any success stories or tips would be great. 2012 will be a wonderful year and i hope to be half the woman i am now.

Little miss mistletoe has done very well, can I add.
It proves that with determination and the right mindset it is very possible. Do it for the right reasons, which by what you've said, sounds like you are.
Good luck, positive vibes being sent, don't get put off, or feel down if it doesn't come off, to start with. Be inspired by others to keep on track, it will happen. Good luck. |

Being serious, Is Slimming World worth the weekly fees? What are they nowadays, £3.75 or more. To do what, to be weighed?
It's easy to eat well, to cook wholesaome food, to eat smaller portions.
Walking is free.
Put the money to good use, buy a decent cycle for you and your little 'un and exercise more.

Cutting out the crap is 90% of weight loss. Some exercise will help tone you as you lose the weight. Slightly smaller portions than you usually eat, there's no need to count calories |

I make a game out of it.. how much food can I get with my points.. new system has taken me some gettnig used to.. but lost over 5 stone recently with it.
I just cant be doing with being told I cant eat stuff on certain days..
both work... however, best thing for me has been to take the £5 a week and put it into a gym membership instead..
IN the new year I am going swimming every day.. plus kickboxing, and zumba.. I always if I fancy something eat it.. but do also journal everything I eat.. that is I find essential.. as you would be amazed how much you can eat without even noticing.

its a fiver a week or you can but 6 weeks for £25, its not just to get weight its the encoragement you get from the class, its knowing someones going to weight you every week and if you cheat people will know that makes me stick to it
some can do it alone, some dont need the help, but i do so to me its worth every penny i spend, a fiver a week to me is nothing to help me feel better about myself
i still walk, i have a bike and i use the gym to aid me but i know if i didnt go every week to get weighted i wouldnt stick to it, some need the extra help and im one of them
if you've had a weight problem for a long time and bad eating is normal to you its not always as easy as saying...oh just eat less

The only thing that is required is to cut down on calorie intake and work out a little exercise routine 3-4 times a week, all that is required is 20 mins a session and you dont have to go into heart attack mode just enough to build a sweat.

In the past I've lost weight with Slimming World, but my lifestyle was different. I went to the gym twice a day, five days a week. I ditched the car and walked everywhere and went to be weighed.
I've been losing weight but have been a right pig over the Christmas.
I'm having a champagne lunch at the Ritz with my daughter on the 4th. The 5th I start undoing what I've done. My daughter's wedding is in August and I want to go shopping for an outfit with my sister in Milan...and it won't be a size 22. |

I think youve got it spot on with what i was thinking.. i probably have slipped into bad eating habits and not even realised it, guess portion size could be monitored more accurately. I think its having the group support that i will need and the no 'hiding' away from weighing in, every thing is open and i'll only be cheating myself.

A challenge for you Sassy :
Cut your rubbish bin volume by half in the next month.
Buy fresh fruit, veg and potatoes. Cut out as many prepackaged foods, takeaways as you can. You'll soon notice a difference.

Good luck with it Sassy and if you feel you need the push of meeting in a group situation every week then it's worth every penny to give that push.
I saw various personal trainers last year and they all insisted nutrition was a giant factor aswell as the fitness side.
As far as fitness goes it's anything you enjoy and will stick with. I started off with walking and ended up doing cycling and martial arts.
Good luck to all this year! |

thing is, as stupid as it sounds to some people, its the having people know when you have done well and tell you well done that helps, its having people to support you when you have had a bad week that helps you get back on track and loose again the week after
If i didnt go to class every time i fancied something i should have id eat it and think, well noones knows i get back on it tomorrow, thing is tomorrow never comes
Its only the thought of getting on then scales and not wanting to have someone see ive gained that makes me stick to it
You do whats best for you, if you feel a class will help then go, every fiver you spend there will be worth it when you feel wonderful for every stone you loose
People spend a lot more than a fiver a week on fags and drink etc to me its not a waste of money |

The reason i go to class, is moral support, tips and ideas, social side of it all, the fact that everyone just so helps each other through the bad times. The inspiration. The fact that each week you get a clap, the awards you get for every 1/2stone. Each leader also has a facebook page so we constantly post on that if something is on offer or we have found a new recipe ect. Ive had fantastic support from all family friends and people on here but i wouldnt have done it with out going to class and im just about to post on the other thread how i have done over christmas |

They all work its just a case of finding the right one for you right now.
Slimming world is good for me right now as it allows to me stil eat big comforting dinners and not have to count too much. Its a great help for me having someone weigh me and for me to account for what I've done with my body that week.
I've lost 2 stone in the last 10 weeks so for now its working well for me. The key to it all is plenty of fruit and veg, cut back the takeaways and find some exercise that suits.
If you decide to do it make sure you plan and prepare so you can have the best week possible and it'll give you a great boost.
Good luck hunni xx |

My whole attitude to food has changed. People say to me you must starve yourself and i say come live with me for a week you will see im not.
My diet consists mainly of
Fresh fruit and veg
No processed food#
No take aways
I do far more cooking than i ever did. Ive also substituted food, you can find plenty of alternatives to high fat calorie laden stuff. Ive cured myself of diabitis and high cholestrol
It can appear to work out more expensive cause fresh fruit isnt cheap. But if you work out how much your shopping comes to each work including all the processed and convenient food and having take aways or popping mcdonalds ect. It actually works out cheaper |

A friend of mine gave me a really good idea about five years ago and I lost two stone with it. I still use it these days if i lose control or over indulge on holidays / Christmas etc.
Firstly, get up tomorrow morning and weigh yourself naked.
Make an excel chart with three columns - day/date - target weight and actual weight. So for example tomorrow you put 28 December and make your target and actual weight the same. Run the dates down the page and make your target weight reduce by 2lb or 1kg every full week.
It is important to weigh yourself every morning on the same scales and in the same way and mark it on the sheet. Some people might tell you not to weigh yourself every day but it is important because it can make you focus if need be or to relax a little if you are ahead of the plan.
Top tips - avoid - obviously sweeties and biscuits. Also do not eat bread or potatoes. Have your food on a side plate, not a dinner plate and drink two glasses of water every time you eat.
My classic daily diet when following this plan is:
Breakfast - Banana or Slim fast shake with coffee and water
Lunch - Tin of fish (smoked tuna, mackerel etc) or ham slices/chunks or soup (no bread). Two glasses of water.
Dinner - omelette or fish or lean meat with salad and water.
snacks - apples
I do not avoid alcohol but tend to drink G&T or rum and with diet tonic/ etc
I promise you that if you follow something like this you will lose 2lb - 3lb per week and because you will see progress every two or three days you will stay motivated. You will also be surprised just how little you really need to eat to stay fit and healthy and will save a considerable amount of money on wasteful shopping.
Top tiops - get support from others in the house - ask them not to drink beer, eat biscuits, chocolate or sweeties in front of you. |

it worked wonderfully for me, losy over 4 stone...and kept it off.Put on about half a stone recently, but know i can loosse it...
Why i think it worked...
1.There is no calorie counting..
2.You can eat loads, diets dont work if u are hungry.
3.You can still cook family meals
4.It is a healthy diet,,big on fruit and veg
5.The groups offer support, parties, ideas,tips...you dont feel alone and get validation when u loose.
6.they encourage achievable exercise
Whatever you choose it is about lifestyle changes...good luck |

Slimming clubs work for people who involve themselves in them as it's the power of association. You being to think and are influenced by like minded people. So much easier with support. Invest in yourself! |

First week i went, i ambled in in a coat that i couldnt do up, huffed and puffed up the stairs. I found the leader and she sat and went through with it with me, noone spoke to me just smiled, but i was determinded. I went home and the next week i got weighed and i had lost 11lb first week so i got a few people congratulationing me. Then over the next couple of weeks they could see i was motivated and just encouraged me all the way. Now i help with the shop, do the money taking and have a corner to sit with people that need motivating that week. |

Sassy - I've been involved with SW for more years than I care to mention as a member and consultant and I'd say give it a go - many of the other postees have mentioned the support in group - and that's the biggie. It's about making small changes to your lifestyle, getting more active (and I've lost over a stone since I restarted swinging a coupla months ago - excellent exercise ). Classes are friendly, there's never any humiliation if someone's struggling and it's not just paying a fiver to get weighed - it's the food talk, recipes, social side, craic, friendship AND we can lose weight too!!! As a member, if I'm doing well, I need to stay to group to help motivate those who are struggling - if I'm struggling, I need to stay to group to get motivation from those doing well - £5 well spent for me. Good luck with however you decide to lose weight |

The most important thing when deciding to diet is motivation, because if you haven't got that, and don't really want to diet but feel you should, then you won't achieve it.
Classes like weightwatchers and slimming world are great for weighing every week and having chance to talk to others who are dieting.
But the big thing to remember and the main aim of these clubs is to make money. The slimming industry is a multi million pound industry.
Deep down we all know how to lose weight. We can all do it. Its about the mindset. Fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meat, limit saturated fats, eating regular meals, reducing snacking, stop eating when full etc.
If you do have a medical problem then speak with your doctor about appointments with a dietician.
I think clubs are a good idea for the weighing and motivation from other people trying to lose weight. I don't like the rest of the money making crap that goes with it, magazine sales, recipe books, snack foos available to buy at class, weighing scales, measuring spoons, and all the other merchandise which is ridiculously overpriced and which members are encouraged to buy. |

I do it and really like it. If you follow it to a tee, it will work for you. I have never felt hungry or starved of food on it. We even manage a curry once a week and i still loose or maintain the same weight. I have lost 9lbs so far, obv on hold at moment with christmas food about.
Good Luck and enjoy |

There must be a couple of dozen woman where mrs _teborah works who are always banging on about being over weight and each week they jump in there cars and drive to there fat fighters clubs then pay more money to stand on some scales and ultimatly get pissed off as they have lost nothing (except for the £3.50) then ultimatly give up as it doesn't work suprise suprise! I suggested to her a while ago why not arrange a meeting for all the people interested each week take there £3.50 off them all after you have weighed them then after a month of meetings you can offer all the money you have collected and offer it as a prize for most weight lost then you have an incentive and there is no better incentive than money |

what works for someone else will not necessarily work for you.
i am personally averse to group dieting / clubs and when i put my mind to it, find i have all the momentum i need to show signs of success.
others however, need the goals, need the regular weigh ins, need someone or something to keep them on track.
to lose weight successfully :
i eat smaller portions
don't eat anything with more than 3g fat per 100g
only eat low sugar foods
walk more
as basic as it sounds, it works, but for me
i actually weighed myself this morning and was bang on 15 stone, so the extra fodder i scoffed over christmas hasn't found its way to my midriff yet |

There could also be the train of thought that people who go to these clubs and fork out the class fee and money for packets of overpriced snacks are divis because they are relying on someone else to provide support and willpower when they are not strong enough to do it themselves.
I personally feel if it works for you then go, if you can afford to, but its a waste of money if you don't have the determination to lose weight |

I did Weight watchers for a couple of months to get used to the diet and way of thinking. At the same time I also entered the Great North Run, and raised money for charity.
I found that the training for the run was the greatest thing, as the money I had raised was far too much to let the people and charity down.
I am pleased to say I completed the run, and lost 3 stone at the same time.
Next year I aim to do the run again in a faster time, and Playing hockey is also helping.
The most important thing is to know that sometimes you wont lose as much as you thought, and other times you will lose more. Just don't give up when it is tough, and believe in yourself that you can do it.
Good luck you, and be sure to keep us updated on your progress. xx |

We've been going since January this year. Kate was a 16 now she's nearly in a 12. She's lost close on 2 stone.
I've lost 2 stone too.
We don't but the slimming world food. There's no need to. I don't pay anymore subscriptions either because I got to my weight back in September.
Neither of us could have done it though, without commiting to go to the class weighin's.
It's not easy to change your eating habits, no matter who you are. The group support will help you, but at the end of the day, it's down to you |

Maybe an idea to look at different way's to approach losing weight, Rather than spening your money on gyms/slimming clubs etc an easy way to lose weight is to eat properly I use a slowcooker everyday prepare my meals in a morning before going to work chuck it into the slowcooker and dinner is ready when we get home & we eat very well & properly.
The next step is to consider buying a sauna suit (google it) you can pick them up on ebay for next to nothing then buy a treadmill or a piece of equipment that you enjoy (you can pick them up second hand for next to nothing). I love running so for me a treadmill is perfect, the secret with exercise is to pick something that you enjoy doing.
The sauna suit will help you to lose the weight more quickly than just exercising alone (maybe check with your GP before wearing one) as you do lose a lot of water/sweat it: Uses your natural body heat that is generated from exercise to increase your perspiration during your workout. This increase in your body temperature due to the sauna effect the Swelter Sweat Suit creates will increase your metabolism and calorie burning whilst ridding your body of unwanted toxins. This enables you to maximise the weight loss in your workout and in certain circumstances doubling or tripling your workout results.
Combine healthy eating with a piece of equipment at home if you have the space (means you can exercise when you like) rather than thinking I can' be arsed going to the gym... and google fat burning programs to help give you ideas to help you with your piece of equipment.
I do know of a good fat burning progam that does work but anyone interested email me and will tell you, my post is large enough!
Good luck |

Zumba is brilliant, not like exercise at all! I've lost 3 1/2stone in just over a year. I do at least 5 hours a week, it's an addiction!
I don't eat rubbish (very often), very little bread, potatoes, rice or pasta, very rarely have milk in my tea and walk wherever I can. I also weigh myself every day as it makes me think about what I eat.
Good luck, it's worth the effort! x |

its a fiver a week or you can but 6 weeks for £25, its not just to get weight its the encoragement you get from the class, its knowing someones going to weight you every week and if you cheat people will know that makes me stick to it
some can do it alone, some dont need the help, but i do so to me its worth every penny i spend, a fiver a week to me is nothing to help me feel better about myself
i still walk, i have a bike and i use the gym to aid me but i know if i didnt go every week to get weighted i wouldnt stick to it, some need the extra help and im one of them
if you've had a weight problem for a long time and bad eating is normal to you its not always as easy as saying...oh just eat less
I think youve got it spot on with what i was thinking.. i probably have slipped into bad eating habits and not even realised it, guess portion size could be monitored more accurately. I think its having the group support that i will need and the no 'hiding' away from weighing in, every thing is open and i'll only be cheating myself.
Gives me something to aim for"
What helped me re portion control was buying an "eat well plate" off amazon. |

Does anyone know how much all the books are etc as i can't find any prices for the start up stuff "
You get a "pack" with everything you need in it when you join. The recipe books are extra but you can buy them as and when they range from 3.95 upwards most are about 4.95. They have a shop at the meeting where you can buy stufff |

you get everything you need as part of the join up fee, membership at the mo is half price and its a fiver a class so will cost you £10 to join tonight and a fiver every week or you cant but classes in bulk, £25 for 6 classes or £50 for 12 classes, if you buy the 12 week count down theres no membership fee, but you dont need to buy anything you get a starter kit included in your joining fee with all the sins and what foods worth and what you can eat etc in it x
Good luck xx |

"I lost 2 stone with Slimming World and all the divi's that say £3.50 is a waste of money have clearly never been, It keeps u on track and its well spent in my eyes Good Luck and SW is fabulous compared to WW xx
There could also be the train of thought that people who go to these clubs and fork out the class fee and money for packets of overpriced snacks are divis because they are relying on someone else to provide support and willpower when they are not strong enough to do it themselves.
I personally feel if it works for you then go, if you can afford to, but its a waste of money if you don't have the determination to lose weight "
Well this "divi" is happy to go to class at 7stone 9lb lighter and i rarely buy the snacks. In fact apart apart from the chocolate bars they sell which work out roughly the same price as a mars bar they sell mainly recipe books. Could i do it on my own? Maybe but its the support and social side that i enjoy as much as anything |

Best of luck. I started in July and have lost just under 3 stone, so it works. Mind every wisdom about loosing weight says it shouldn't as I've never eaten as much in my entire life!

I lost 10lb back in my slimmer days, but found it to be too huggy-kissy for me.
Im a very private person and found it all to be a it too twee for my liking, so now I just do it on my own by following the diet, cutting out the crap, and trying to exerise more. I don't need to pay a fiver a week to weigh |

Hey ladies wondered if you could help,, i was reading up on flexible syns on the slimming world website and came across this:
'Between 10 and 15 Syns is about the recommended amount a day for someone who's two to three stones overweight [you can have more if you have more to lose]'
just wondered that if i should perhaps increase my syn allowance to 20 as i have substantially more weight to lose than just 3 stone. Or if i should continue with the averaging of about 8 syns..
people on other diets have said things along the lines of 'you might not be eating enough' and wondered if this could be partly why i only lost 2 lb on my first week of munching salads.

Congratulations on losing the 2lb
You are probably not eating enough and should up your free stuff not the syn's (must be capped at 15 for some reason)
But 2lb is good and the recommended amount to lose in any one week xxx |

Dont know anything about slimming world..
But it is true when people say you dont eat enough...
You NEED fat and you NEED protein...
Next time you have a nice healthy meal...grate some cheese over it and not the nasty low fat stuff!!
And never eat high starch food after 3pm

ive never been hungry with the food, i was just checking on the website cos i went out last night and had sausage and chips and wasnt sure how flexible syns worked.
i beat myself up over my hiccup, but started fresh back on plan this morning. Weigh in tomorrow so the scales will tell me. |

you NEED every food group, but the point of clubs as slimming world etc is to learn you dont need added fat, salt, sugar etc in your diet, you will get the recomended daily allowance without grating cheese over your meal or adding marg to mash, just by eating healthy |

Cute, use as many syns as you need up to 15. Substantially overweight are allowed more but i mean 8, 9, 10 stone overweight for up to 20 syns. Id recommend more superfree fruit n veg to fill u up but without seeing your food diary cant b 100% sure of where potential probs are. Ex easy is 1/3 superfree on each meal and recommend superfree for snacking too. Dont forget that syns n healthy xtras must be accurately measured, thats often where memberss go wrong guessing syns. Enjoy xxx |

dont beat yourself up, we all fall off the rails some times, if you over eat, forget about it and carry on as normal the next meal/day, dont ever cut back the next day to save cals to try and compensate for over eating the night before all you will do it get so hungry you'll over eat again and its a visious circle, believe me im been running round it all my adult life lol

I lost 3 stone and kept it off by eating full fat cheese almost every day
I didnt join any slimming club...I simply stopped eating bread, rice, potatoes and pasta!
That is not as easy as it sounds...but it has been the ONLY diet that worked for me |

I never go beyond 8 syns a day, i wouldnt loose weight if i did. There is no need to go hungry. Work out how many syns you had before you had your chips average bag of chips and a battered sausage will be around 25 syns so if you where less than 25 syns from the maximum you are allowed then you will be ok.
How flexible syns work is, for example, if you where going out for a meal and you didnt know how many syns you would have before you go you allocate yourself so many say 50 and dont go above them, it means you are keeping in control although you may not loose that week unless you have a deficit of 50 syns. |

Im 100% confident with the meals im having and all the super free and free foods (one third/two thirds) that im eating.
I dont feel hungry, always got carrot sticks, fruit, muller lights in the fridge if im hungry between meals.
Truth be told im about 18 stone over weight, Im happy with about 8 syns a week. This is only my 2nd week mind and not sure what this weeks weigh in will be.

so is that 35 extra syns for just one day on top of your allowed 15 a day? totalling 10 syns for the week
or is it 50 syns for one day and reducing the rest of the week to 55syns (bout 9 syns for the 6 remaining days)?"
It depends how you do it, if im going out and know im going to be using more syns then i cut back during the week. But you can just take extra syns that day, it doesnt mean you will loose weight that way but its making you keep in control by giving yourself a target and sticking to it |

so is that 50 syns for that day as well as 15 syns for the remaining 6 days (total 140 syns a week)

When I started in October I had about 7 stone to loose (2 down now) and was told to aim for 10-15. I average between 8-12 depending on the need for my evening chocolate fix lol.
That said Thursday (weigh in) I dont use any syns before class and treat myself to a full size choc bar on the way home - still only 11.5 though.
Don't worry about the odd slip up or bad day, it happens. Not letting it ruin your week or knock your momentum that matters.
2 lb a week is a decent steady amount, that is over 7 stone in a year.
Keep up the good work |

You can work it either way on slimming world.
You can save your syns and use them all in one go which many people in my group do if they are going out drinking on a saturday night.
Or you can use the flexible sysn options, which is knowing that you are going to over but limiting it - staying in control. So if you would feel deprived not using your syns during the week, and know you are going out for a meal you allow yourself an extra 50. You then count what you have on that meal. The idea is that it is better to go overboard on syns but still be in control, rather than go over your syns and then think sod it and keep going over.
Good luck with it - I've lost 3 stone so far on slimmingworld and have never been so full. It's simply about making changes to how you do things, but to give you an idea my weeks meals are as follows:
Donner Kebab and chips, beef stew with mash and veg, spanish chicken and chorizo stew with rice, pork tagine, shepherds pie, lasagne and sunday roast. All slimmingworld dishes that taste great, have little or few syns and which all the family will eat. |

Flexible syns is about allowing yourself a bit of room in your corset - apt analogy for us swingers lol. If you've got an occasion coming up, allow yourself however many syns, 50, 100, 150 whatever for that day. Stick to your 5 - 15 syns a day from your first day, enjoy your occasion (AND KEEP COUNTING) and go back down to your normal 5 - 15 syns for the rest of the week. It's a psychological thing that most of us, if we have a "bad" day, allow it to f*ck up the rest of the week for us - whereas in reality, one bad day doesn't make you put weight on, but if you go off the plan on Saturday and stay off it till you get weighed on Tuesday (for example), then you're much more likely to gain. For the record, 5 - 15 syns daily is the official allowance, we usually recommend around 10 a day, certainly to start with and as rightly commented earlier in the thread it takes a few weeks to work out what's best for you as an individual - whatever you do, don't deprive yourself - that's when you feel like you're on a "diet" rather than being a healthy eater......
Off to class shortly, should have lost half my body weight this week the amount of snot that's been streaming from my nose - sorry for the TMI |

"7 1/2 lb lost this week.. i am so happy. Slimmer of the week too
There you go well done, patience is a virtue and it proves that you can loose large amounts even with your thyroid problem"
i am sooooooo thrilled! would have been happy with 2 lb loss. |

even im shocked with it, but think because my average syn's a day is 8.. having that splurge didn't dent the fact i was munching loads of salads and super free foods the rest of the time.
Im lucky and wont be having that indulgance any time soon |
