Reading an article and it cites the “High 5” of positive character strengths as — erudition, peace, cheerfulness, honesty, and tenacity.
What are the top five character strengths that you’d select or would you go with the ones above? |

"Not erudition for sure, who gives a damn about knowledge!
I'd go for honesty, loyalty, compassion, courage and humour I think. "
I suppose it covers enlightenment and insight too though. |

I think of those as gifts rather than character strengths I guess. |

Actually wisdom would be pretty high on my list, but still after those top 5. |

"Integrity is top for me."
I could swap my honesty and loyalty for integrity and get my wisdom in the top five lol! But there are so many aspects to loyalty that are important to me I think I'll keep it as it is. |

Nothing worse than misplaced loyalty. It's what drives people to fight for their religion or do terrible things for their company. I know how you intend it. But loyalty is responsible for many of the problems of the world imo. I'd much rather someone had an over riding sense of ethics they were willing to live and die by |

I'm not sure I'd call that loyalty - more like dogma. |

I think when someone has a good sense of ethics they automatically support their friends, loved ones, and others. But when any of those people go off the rails they're willing to speak truth to them and abandon that loyalty until they come back into line. That's the sign of a good person imo much more than unerring loyalty |

"I think of my empathy as a weakness."
No disrespect but that's untrue
Being able to read a person is skill gift , what you do with that data is different
To my understanding
Empathy is the reading and understanding part
Sympathy is the problem you may have as a reaction to your empathy xxx
I'm exceptionally empathic , I'm not always the most sympathetic xxx

That’s not quite how I see the difference between empathy and sympathy; I tend to roll with the definitions beautifully illustrated in this RSA short by Brene Brown.

I understand the downside to unboundaried empathy, imagine being a sponge that absorbs up and feels alongside another’s every emotion. It can be very draining, and this is essentially the basis of vicarious trauma. |

Ah that's a very fair comment , one of I empathise with xx it is possible to put a barrier up after the initial emotion , but can be very difficult |
