My mum used to put the Christmas Day sprouts on to boil around Easter Sunday. Hence I always thought I didn’t like them. Just a soggy green mess on the plate. Tried one cooked by a chef a few years ago and found it to be rather nice. I like the idea of them with garlic and bacon - I may have to give it a whirl this Christmas

I think adding bacon is a great idea.

But, and let’s be honest here, it’s cheating.

It’s pretty unlikely you’re going to add bacon to anything and make it taste worse

Same goes for cheese.

When I tell people I despise cauliflower, they always say ‘oh, but Bradley, what about cauliflower cheese?’..

If the only way you can make something palatable is by covering it in cheese sauce it doesn’t say much for the original

I say learn to love/accept/tolerate/survive sprouts in their beautiful naked unburgeoned form before garnishing/supplementing/enhancing/disguising them with bacon.

There is a massive difference between a properly cooked sprout and the overcooked mush some people serve up.

Also farmers have bred a better brussel sprout. They have removed a lot of the bitterness taste and they are now sweeter tasting.

I love them. I think people are put off because they can sometimes be bitter. I offset this by halving and sautéing them with a little sugar instead of boiling. Shredded and stir fried with lardons is good too. I have put leftovers in an omelette...or bubble and squeak.
