Gone in 60 Seconds. Fuck you Nicholas Cage.
The original Toby Halicki version is great, such a slick film, especially considering it was made on a really low budget. |

Holy shit!
Most pointless remake? Flight of the Phoenix. Replacing Jimmy Stewart and Dickie Attenborough with Dennis Quaid and Tyrese Gibson. Utter waste of time, money (it lost £10m) and effort. |

"Easy answer - don’t go and watch them, don’t buy them on Netflix/sky etc, don’t buy any product with a tie in to them...they’ll have to stop shovelling shite once the cash stop flowing "
Netflix are making some really good stuff |

I thought the most pointless ever was the Psycho remake ??? |

For me, the most pointless remake was the remake of one of my all-time fave movies, "Get Carter". Loved the Michael Caine original, but couldn't understand why it was Americanised, with Sylvester Stallone in the lead role.
Refused to watch it then, and still do to this day. |

I am with you on this... "
If they'd just re-released the original remastered again, I'd have paid to watch it over that dross! |

"I still refuse to watch the Point Break remake. Blasphemy!!
Put it on for two seconds, said the name Utah and it wasn't Keanu .. just couldn't do it "
It should be boycotted and used as an example to all these film studios that are lacking original thoughts! |

I can’t stand any remakes to be fair, they never stand up to the original. It’s like they’re run out of ideas for new films. I’m the same with prequels, just can’t be arsed with them. |

The proposed remake of, An American Werewolf in London is set to be helmed by Max Landis, son of the great John Landis who directed the classic original.
This time though, in an epic, pc friendly twist, the hero will reportedly be a woman.
Ok.....
At this rate and in this present climate of wholly needless character gender changes, I for one can’t wait for another remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street, this time starring Melissa McCarthy as Felicity Kruger |

Come on guys! They've got to remake these films. It's a chance to fill them with state of the art computer effects whilst draining them of any of their political content.
Planet of the apes.

"The Italian Job, noooooooooooo "
I hate the BMW remake.
There is only one film that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the original. That's a film starring David Niven: A Nightingale sang in Berkley Square. Download it if you can, as it isn't easy to get hold of it on DVD.
The scene in the toilets is pure class. I won't give the ending away, just watch it now! |

Well, the only exception that I can think of is the B&W version of Oliver Twist vs the colour one. |

"The Wicker Man.
Awful.
A total crock"
The same goes to the remake of his role as Rob McCall in The Equalizer.
Denzil Washington, was never an Englishman in New York.
Sting wrote that song about Quentin Crisp, but it could still apply to Edward and Stewart Copeland did that wonderful soundtrack.
Eastenders was a big mistake for him. Common As Muck, were he was a bin man, still-clearing-the-trash-off-the-streets, now that were good.
Edward Woodward RIP.
He even appeared on BBC's Countryfile, talking about the coppice that he owned; yes it's true. Edward Woodward's wood. |

I cannot stand remakes, just because they think they can CGI everything these days it doesn’t make it better, classics are called classics for a reason, the great acting, the innovative ideas, just leave them be and get your own ideas Hollywood |

I’m completely against remakes of classics.
Having said this, there is actually one remake that springs to mind, which actually improved upon the original in my mind (even though the original was actually a classic in itself) and that is John Carpenter’s remake of The Thing (remade from The Thing From Another World).
Mind you, the differences are great enough as to question if it is indeed a true remake, rather more, ‘Inspired from’ if truth be told.
Talking of Carpenter though.....there have been worrying plans for some years now to remake his classic, Escape From New York.
Can you honestly imagine anyone other than Kurt Russell in the iconic role of Snake Plissken?!
Fuck that say I! |

"Sensual you've got me thinking of good remakes now. You're right about The Thing I'd add The Fly to that. Any others? "
Great call sir
Thinking about it and another one which at least equals the original classic (for me at least) would be Sergio Leone’s, A Fistful Of Dollars which was a remake of Akiro Kurosawa’s earlier, equally brilliant, ‘Yojimbo’. |

Another good call dude. I tell you another fascinating remake. When Michael Mann was starting out he made a cheesy film called LA Takedown. Later, with a bigger budget at his disposal, he remade it almost scene for scene, sometimes word for word and same camera angle as Heat.
It's fascinating to watch them in that order, LA Takedown followed by Heat. Because LA Takedown is so shit and Heat is so great. It's a real testimony to what those two great actors, De Niro and Puccino, brought to it |

Never watched the remake and have no intention to. Part of what makes the original, is the gritty northern backdrop.

The one thing that bugs me is Hollywood remaking foreign language films just because it seems people can’t be bothered to read subtitles! Modern classics such as Oldboy, Let the Right one in & now Train to Busan is getting the Hollywood treatment! |

Some of the remakes with gender role reversals made me raise my eyebrows. However, hearing my daughter comment on some regarding this I now look at it in a different light.
Diversity is important, but not just for the sake of it. I loved the remade battlestar galactica and the ladies who took the original male roles were fantastic.
I have made the decision to not watch some remakes, get Carter and the magnificent seven being two stand out ones for me. But when I had to accompany my daughter to ghost busters I found it to be rather enjoyable. Not a patch on the original but I just see them as completely different films.
And yes, there can only be one snake plissken |

Some remakes I seen I admit are better, maybe cos technology to discover the original idea is now available and style fits.
However (and it’s a big one) I hate how loads films are being remade just to be pc and add a female lead in hope that female movie goers will flock to see a kick ass female lead, sorry but a lot of these films are flopping as male lots of women will go to enjoy hot guys in films or the film actually demands a male lead.
Loads of money is been spent cos Hollywood hopes a female lead will draw young girls to wow an admire them but people want story and originality.
Plenty of films come with amazing vision that fail like John carter of mars wow amazing film nearly bankrupted Disney but now a cult film and valerian wow what a film
Remakes I know heading are: escape from New York, dune, it, xmen films, poltergeist, lethal weapon, gone in 60 seconds reportedly gettin remake. And Disney remaking classic cartoon film as real action Aladdin, lion king etc
Wow rant over haha |
